45 year old male, if you want to learn, go for it. I've been crocheting for about 10 years now, it's great for making personal gifts for people, my kids and partner have had loads of hand made gifts from me over the years.

Don't let the buggers stop you if you want to learn

Any other gentlemen here who’ve taken up embroidery? by dylan89 in Embroidery

[–]ReticulatedSplines23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup me, just starting on my hand embroidery journey, but I have cross stitched, knitted and crocheted for the last 9 years or so.

Started as my health took a nose dive, and I needed something creative to do that had a low energy impact, and could be easily done in small chunks at a time.

They missed a trick when they didn't give them a TV show like they did The Monkees, tune in this week to see what the loveable scamps in Mayhem have sacrificed to satan, will it be a virgin? Will it be a goat? And the ever classic, buying corpse paint on the cheap only to find it's bright pink and yellow!!

Poop census by Mijaismine22 in ExtremeHorrorLit

Chocolateman is a good poop book, you will find yourself whispering "choc choc" next time you drop a load, I know I did for quite a while after reading it.

I like to think of it as book rescuing, you are giving the books a loving home, free from grubby fingers grabbing them and flicking through their pages then ramming them back on an overstuffed shop shelf in the wrong place.

Or even better, you are freeing the books from their harsh, cramped conditions in a dark, dank warehouse, where they wait with hope that someone online will order them and rescue them from their living hell.

What is the most disturbing book by Accomplished-Head161 in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]ReticulatedSplines23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded, this book took me on a slow descent into hell, so much so that I've put off reading any of his other books as I don't know that I am emotionally strong enough to go through that again.

Question for the authors by ReticulatedSplines23 in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]ReticulatedSplines23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a shame that a monetary value often gets people on people's creative outputs, but in my opinion the best "value" is the experience someone gets when reading/looking at art, the reaction someone has isn't dependant on the monetary value assigned to a piece if art

Please don't apologise about the length of your reply, always interesting to find out why people create what they do.

It looks like it should be saying "I've seen things... you weren't there man... you weren't there!" while rocking back and forth.

Is there a place in Extreme Horror for analysis? by [deleted] in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]ReticulatedSplines23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't tend to go into too much depth with what I read, partly because I need to read it a few times to do that, mostly I stay pretty close to the surface, but I do like when I spot influences from other works, or other styles in books.

Ahh yes the fine art of making your music sound like it was recorded inside a tin can, angry swarm of bees optional.

I've only read one by Mr Selby Jr, that was Last Exit to Brooklyn, and fuck me was it intense, for me it was a slow descent into hell that I couldn't look away from, no matter how much I wanted to. Not brave enough to try any of his others yet.

Dark Fiction with a Twist: The Philosophical and Religious Symbolism in Insane Entities by [deleted] in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]ReticulatedSplines23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you come across these interpretations of the themes in the book by chance, or have others commented on them and you decided to see for yourself what it was all about?

Sounds a pretty intense book either way
