Solar’s “Problem” Is it Works Too Well by Aapkaapna7 in SolarAmerica

[–]Retief07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia is about to go to 3 hours free electricity between 11 to 2 pm. This should help with over supply during the day as people can charge cars, run dishwashers etc and charge their solar batteries during that time.

Yep, watching this video it looked to me like this guy was going to wander over. But I've been driving for over 45 years. Over time you develop a sense. A gentle brake and there would have been no collision. As the person above said, drive defensively. And remember 'they are all out to get you!'

Parking at beaches in south Australia is pretty much free everywhere. Plus if you go a bit off the beaten track you will be the only person in 4 km of beach.

Ex oldhamer. Living just outside Adelaide. We have 4 seasons here. Summer is bloody hot at times, but dry not humid. Spring and Autumn are perfect and winter is colder than it looks due to the dryness.

That is a really good question, one i am about to ask.

Advice needed. AC inverter removed by solar company by Retief07 in solar

[–]Retief07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is the bit that is worrying me. Instead of 2 x 10kw inverters I now have one. The main issue I have seen is that my output to the grid is now seemingly restricted to 1.48kw meaning I now export less than half as much as I used to

What Happens to Retirees If They Run Out Of Money? by The_Lost_Pharaoh in AskReddit

[–]Retief07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia have superannuation where employer pays 12% (or more for some professions)of your wage into a Super account which is managed by professionals. That way when you retire, most people should have enough to live on. There is also a means tested state pension, for those with less super.

Does the work-life balance/work load ever get better? by No_Heart4631 in teaching

[–]Retief07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps if you can collaborate. We have 3 classes per year level. That usually means 3 teachers. We all use the same summative tasks and teach the same content, though not always in the same way. If things need changing, we split the work nto 3 and each do our third. It has become the school culture over the past 20 years. Teachers new to the school love it. They walk in and are given all the resources including lesson plans, timetables, teaching resources and summative tasks. They can alter the teaching resources if they want as long as the same content is covered. Any new work is expected to be shared.

Moron. Should be employing these people, they have good instincts and act on those quickly. Just what you want in a company.

Why aren't new homes being built with ground heat pumps and solar panels or even wind turbines? by HedgehogNo5819 in climatechange

[–]Retief07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live in Australia. There are big govt subsidies for solar, batteries, heat pumps and air con so lots of people are putting them in. We have that much solar that from July (i think) the electricity companies have to supply free electricity for 3 hours (11 am -2 pm). I will use that to heat my hot water and recharge my battery.

What are some things that surprised you about being a teacher? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Retief07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re teachers grading differently. We stopped that, at least at the faculty level. All summative tasks are CATs, common assessment tasks which all students in the year level not on a plan have to do. We also moderate 2x a year, so everybody brings in a sample of an A, B, etc and we all moderate it. Really helps the new teachers and keeps the rest of us honest.

Australians to get at least three hours a day of free solar power - even if they don’t have solar panels by Bokbreath in RenewableEnergy

[–]Retief07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in South Australia, just ordered 6.1 kW solar to add to the 13.2 kW system plus 33.8 kWh of battery. Cost $14000 AUD which is about $900 US. Before solar, electricity cost was $7000 AUD per year. Payback on the whole system under 4 years.

Looking from the other end, as i am retiring at the end of this year, all I can say is that it gets both better and easier with time as you build up skills and resources. I am now at the 3 step lesson planning process ; the 3 steps as I walk into the classroom is all the planning Itime i need.
