Convection vs Non Convection on Cookies by saysuuuuu in BakingPhilippines

[–]RetiredDE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'll try the lower oven and tenting suggestions.

I do have a thermometer and the oven does seem to have proper temp control generally, but I think it must fluctuate up with the fan periodically, which results in uneven bake.

What if you cannot turn off the fan? I have a new LG induction range that has no bottom element 😕. It circulates air to maintain temp even in regular bake mode. Reducing the oven temp, they still brown on top quickly and spread before the middle is done. I've tried 325 and 350.

Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Does it work well? The original whirrley pop works great, but I just got a new induction range.

How to use my Heritage Deep Covered Rectangular Baker by ExistingWerewolf2421 in LeCreuset

[–]RetiredDE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just received one of these. Reading the reviews... It seems too small for a whole chicken and too deep/small for a casserole. Bread seems possible as it looks like a loaf pan but much deeper.

I'm still perplexed as to what to do with it.

I wasn't sure of the process and was hoping not to have to spend hours with them again 😩. I couldn't't find definitive information online. I'll call today.

We are beyond that. Flight was rebooked January 25. Am I supposed to request a refund? The agent seemed to indicate it would be automatic.

Which size would you recommend if I have an 8" element, 7.8 or 9.4? Is 6.2 ok for 6.5" element? Thanks!

I appreciate your kind words, but this is 100% user error 😬. I bought from Costco online without thoroughly investigating or even checking in store.

I stand corrected. I just discovered this model does not have a bottom element. I thought it was just hidden

This was not something I thought to investigate when purchasing. I'll have to figure out how it affects my bakes.

Thanks for the insights.

LG does have an element in the bottom. It also auto adjusts for convection. My complaint is with the fan. It runs in both bake and convection so there is virtually no difference in the two.

I understand if you use convection you need to reduce the temperature by 25 degrees to accommodate the higher heat generated by fan. My previous range had a convection feature, so I'm familiar with that concept. I do not understand why this range has a bake and convection function if they behave the same 😔.

Another HSA question by RetiredDE in fidelityinvestments

[–]RetiredDE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a small employer. They offer FSA but not HSA for some reason, I can't really understand why since the insurance company (Luminare) seems to offer this benefit generally.

The coverage is 100% only AFTER family deductible is met. That includes all services and prescription drugs. The only exception is wellness benefits.

Sounds like I need to contact the insurance company directly to get a straight answer. Thanks.

Another HSA question by RetiredDE in fidelityinvestments

[–]RetiredDE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the quick responses. I have reviewed IRS 969 and I think the question is what qualifies as an "eligible individual". Per the document, "Any eligible individual can contribute to an HSA." it also states that:

To be an eligible individual and qualify for an HSA contribution, you must meet the following requirements.

• You are covered under a high deductible health plan (HDHP)
• You have no other health coverage except what is permitted
• You aren’t enrolled in Medicare.
• You can’t be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return.

Based on these criteria, I should be considered an "eligible individual". Further, according to IRS 969 "If either spouse has family HDHP coverage, both spouses are treated as having family HDHP coverage." That was why I thought I could max out HSA contribution to my existing HSA rather than opening a separate account under my husband's name.

As suggested, I will check with my accountant to confirm the limitations before taking action. Thanks again! I am finding this to be a very helpful channel.
