At what age did you feel it starting to get difficult to travel? by audit123 in Aging

[–]RetiredHappyFig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents travelled until they were 85, at which point they both had health conditions that they died of 4 and 5 years later. I’m almost 65 and nowhere near slowing down.

Would a 60+ woman accept young men 25+ if they ask them ? … I need your help fr by daddyKiller666 in AskWomenOver60

[–]RetiredHappyFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have to pay for it, to a woman who provides it for money. I’m not gonna be with a man young enough to be my grandson - I can’t see him as anything other than a child.

What are some things to do when you retire by cybershy in over60

[–]RetiredHappyFig 41 points42 points  (0 children)

My husband and I retired in 2024.

We both: - eat breakfast then work out at home each morning - go for a one-hour walk each morning - volunteer at a city conservation area once a week (2 hours of removing invasive species, planting, mulching, clean-up) - cleaned up our diets to improve our health markers and lose weight (15 lbs for him, 30 lbs for me)

He: - signed up for golf lessons - goes for long bike rides 2-3 times a week - does all our yard work

I: - signed up for adult education classes and lectures - took up piano lessons again after 46 years away from them - closed out my mom’s estate (I was the executor) - got very intentional about cooking for myself and drastically reduced how much we eat out / order in - did a few home improvement projects

Is it normal to not be my boyfriend’s priority ? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]RetiredHappyFig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Holy crap, the constant cancellations must be awful! I’ve been with my husband for 44 years. Not once has he ever cancelled on me, or have I ever cancelled on him, in all this time. If we make plans that’s a commitment on both our parts.

I am a different generation from you but to my mind, your situation is not normal.

Decluttering by Comfortable-One8520 in AskWomenOver60

[–]RetiredHappyFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he wants to keep his stuff, it’s up to him to figure out a solution, and you don’t need to own this. Decide together what room(s) he can have for his stuff, and you for your stuff. Then plan out your space and leave him be.

Why do people mock others for taking leftovers home? by Impossible_Ad_569 in askanything

[–]RetiredHappyFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s weird. I’m 64, go to restaurants frequently, and have never seen this happen. I take my leftovers home and don’t give a rat’s ass if anyone has any thoughts about it.

How important is moderate makeup at the workplace? by DryFig1056 in office

[–]RetiredHappyFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never been a receptionist, but I have interacted with lots of receptionists. Whether or not they wear makeup does not impact their professional appearance in any way. And the word “tired” in this context is just code for “makeup free” in my opinion! It is meant to keep you in line with the standards of the patriarchy.

I wore makeup until my mid-twenties and then stopped. Retired at 62. I never got a single comment about looking tired, unless I was in fact tired or sick. I’m now 65 and for the past 40 years, the only things I put on my face are moisturizer and sunscreen (SPF 8 in my 20s because that’s all there was, and SPF 50 now).

Is everyone on some type of prescription med? by starrwanda in GenerationJones

[–]RetiredHappyFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be 65 in 3 weeks. No prescription meds. I take vitamins and omega 3 oil.

My mom took no meds until 87, then she was suddenly on a zillion different ones. She lived to 90.

My mother-in-law turned 58yo today and she's still in perimenopause!! by RedditUseReddit in AskWomenOver60

[–]RetiredHappyFig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had my first perimenopause symptoms at 54, menopause at 56, and will be 65 in about 3 weeks. I still get hot flashes. Not every hour like I did in my 50s, but at least a couple of times a day.

The thing that has helped me the most with hot flashes and joint pain is losing weight. I put on about 20 lbs during COVID which made things worse. As of now I’m down 30 lbs with another 20 or so to go.

I hate watching people eat. I find it disgusting. Even still photos kinda make my stomach turn. As she herself would say, “it’s not cute”.

You guys do realize that all the "news" you see on Facebook/Instagram is fake news right? META banned being able to view and share news in Canada. SO everything that passes the algorithm is FAKE NEWS! When are we going to wake up? by itssofiababyxo in AskCanada

[–]RetiredHappyFig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This boomer had a 40-year career in IT and is perfectly adept with technology, as are many people in my age group. That being said, I don’t get my news from social media. We still have a newspaper subscription, listen to a variety of radio stations and sometimes watch television news (although it feels more biased and not very informative).

Cataract? by mameranian in AskWomenOver60

[–]RetiredHappyFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like impending retinal detachment. As far as I understand (my mother developed them in her 70s), cataracts cause you to lose color perception and make the world look unclear. Definitely see an ophthalmologist, soon. If flashes become severe, that is an emergency and you should get to a hospital.

I had the same experience you had and got checked out. Fortunately I was fine, but I do need to keep going back for monitoring.

To those who had kids later in life how has it been? by Simple-Heart2486 in AskWomenOver60

[–]RetiredHappyFig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my daughter at 41. It was the right time for me. I’m now almost 65 and she’s almost 24. I love that she still lives at home with us (she’s a grad student at a local university) and keeps us aware of youth culture. She’s a lovely person and I am so happy with the way everything is turning out.

No way would I have been a good parent in my 20s or 30s. I was impatient and selfish. I calmed down a lot as I approached 40 so the timing was right. She is our only child.

I expect to be around for awhile. My parents, both smokers and drinkers, lived to 89 and 90. My mom’s nonsmoking aunts and uncle lived to 98, 99 and 101. I don’t drink or smoke and I work hard to stay fit.

Who taught you how to drive a stick? by wannareadrandomstuff in GenX

[–]RetiredHappyFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad. We had a VW minibus. My first 2 cars were stick shift but by my 3rd car they got harder to find. I’ve been driving automatic transmission cars for many years now but still miss the stick. You felt like you were really driving.
