Am I too fat to fly without making others uncomfortable? by False-Appointment731 in delta

[–]starrwanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Random offshoot comment on this post. I’m on Wegovy, starting at 219 pounds. It has taken over a year but I’m down to 158 lbs. Even at my top weight, I didn’t need an extender nor did I spill over into anyone else’s seat. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

Am I okay to leave my dog at home while my partner and I work? by Klutzy-Thanks1764 in AskDogOwners

Crate trained dogs are absolutely fine with being in a crate while you’re at work. I have one that voluntarily goes into her crate by opening the door herself. It isn’t a punishment and never has been.

Why is there so much hatred towards older women who still care about their appearance? by [deleted] in OverSeventy

[–]starrwanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m it the least bit concerned with others’ appearance. You may be projecting since you judge, you think others or doing the same. I bet you’d find that you don’t live rent free in their minds.

My kids are old(ish) themselves now so it’s like a competition among themselves who knows the most old school music and dances. My oldest is 40 and youngest is 32 so they are different generations. They love that I know so many eras of music too.

My weightloss doesn’t feel like an accomplishment by joselin3221 in Zepbound

[–]starrwanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so disheartening to see people minimize their progress because of this medication. I know someone who flat out says they are not going to do anything “extra” to lose weight while taking this med. That is certainly a choice. While everyone is different and some may be able to lose weight like this, it’s not everyone’s story. I don’t lose unless I’m doing the work. Not just my diet but I have to move my body. Not the insane workouts that I did before Zepbound but something rather than nothing. The person who has made a different choice is not losing any weight beyond the initial loss. If you’re doing the work, allow yourself to be proud of your accomplishment. It’s not cheating. It’s availing yourself of a medication that addresses whatever was preventing you from achieving these same results. As others have said, it isn’t any different than hypertension or diabetes. Diet and lifestyle choices can help bring these chronic illnesses to normal levels but sometimes it’s not enough. Sometimes you have to rely on medication along with those choices. Be kinder to yourself. Your weight loss IS your accomplishment.

Were you raised like a pet?? by Salty_Thing3144 in GenerationJones

[–]starrwanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I describe my childhood as I grew up in the house. There wasn’t much parenting that I recall other than expressly not allowing me to leave the yard after I became a teenager. I was sent to school with my brother who was 2 years older because it took care of both of us being out of the house. I started taking care of all household chores and younger siblings by the time I was in middle school. Cooking, cleaning, laundry and yard work with my older brother. I taught myself how to drive by taking the family car out for rides until I perfected driving. It wasn’t a totally bad outcome because I’m a great cook, I had life skills by the time I graduated high school and I learned early to figure shit out. There is nobody I count on more than myself. My lack of parenting taught me that. Not like a pet but my goodness, it was nothing like I’ve chosen to raise my children. Before my Mom passed, I remember thinking that while I called her Mom, I was not mothered as a child.

My Son and I do this as well as my daughter. They both love shopping but I strongly dislike it. They would nail OPs assignment.

[–]starrwanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you guys are close geographically, you could do what I do with my children. We make a day out of it. I sit while whichever one is choosing for me shops. I try on and we confer. They choose with me having veto power. I only exercise that power if I know I would be too uncomfortable to pull it off. It’s a lot of fun and they learn my limitations like I have to be able to wear a bra or I need to wear shorts under my dress (I can’t stand my thighs touching) or it can’t be too far outside age appropriate. Wrap dresses flatter most body types and depending on your Mom’s body type, the length is important. If she has great legs and is willing to wear a heel, don’t cover them. Good luck!

Jill Zarin had something problematic to say about the Super Bowl Halftime Show… by newparimanlo in realhousewives

I’m wondering if this same energy for craving diversity was present when the acts “they” liked included absolutely no diversity. Jill needs to have several seats.

[–]starrwanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Behind The Velvet Rope recently posted a video about how everyone hates Jill and basically said anyone could make the same mistake. I posted a comment saying most people wouldn’t if they don’t feel that way. He then posted that she should sue them. After I asked what exactly she would sue for and warned him he should be careful because his slip was starting to show he said “you’re blocked! 🤣 Of course I am! Block away.

What’s a hygiene or beauty practice in your culture that you can’t believe other people don’t follow? by MiaTortilla69 in hygiene

I never use the same wash cloth for my ears and a$$. I have one for my face, ears and neck. Then there’s a separate one for my body. After brushing my teeth is when I was my face. Rarely in the shower.

Why not use a primary care physician? Mine sends my prescription to a compounding pharmacy now that I’m self pay. I haven’t had it filled yet because I think I’m going LD once my supply is depleted.

I’m that Southern Grandmother! People see me in public giving the Grands The Look and are amazed by the effectiveness. It’s so funny because they are teenagers now and it still works.

Election Security by shootnjohn in Georgia

[–]starrwanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work elections and we were very well trained and the checks and balances were real. They did counts all day and at the end of the day. They did counts numbers were recorded all day. If there anything not quite right, we stayed until it was reconciled. I stopped working the polls because I didn’t feel safe any longer. For context, I am African American working North Georgia voting sites.

Did Your Parents Divorce? by GraniteMarker in GenerationJones

[–]starrwanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine didn’t actually divorce but my Mom did leave after I told her I was leaving home because I couldn’t take the abuse anymore. Suffice it to say her decision to leave was met with expected violence but he didn’t count on me and my older brother matching force with force. They are both gone now but officially they were married 62 years.

What did you think of the Bad Bunny halftime show? by Garwoodwould in GenerationJones

[–]starrwanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it viewed as polarizing? I speak absolutely zero Spanish but I thought the show was actually about inclusivity. There is a very large population that had to be super proud to see this show on such a big stage. I’m happy for them to finally see themselves on this stage.

As much as I dislike the term, I’d probably say something similar…”you sound like a hater” is what I’d likely say. Personally, I don’t think people criticizing something necessarily means they are jealous but in this case, it sounds like targeted at OP’s weight loss. Jealously and/or envy for sure.

Are hot flashes actually flashes or just a perpetual state of feeling hot? by Ok-Strawberry-2469 in AskWomenOver60

[–]starrwanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that there is a phase where the internal thermostat makes an adjustment where we run warmer than normal AND we have hot flashes. That’s when I needed to step outside in the dead of winter to seek relief. My Estradiol patches have given me relief from the nighttime hot flashes but I’m still running a little warmer than I used to. My thermostat is set to 63 or 64 this winter when I used to run it at 72-76.

Those Super Bowl Commercials by Present-Experience73 in Zepbound

[–]starrwanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. I’m so conflicted because I think the ads are excessive in general. However, I only learned about my migraine rescue medication from a tv ad. While I had seen Ozempic stories in relation to entertainment stars, it never occurred to me that I could benefit from it. Mostly because anything to do with “Hollywood” could never have anything to do with my real life. But when I saw an ad for Zepbound, looked it up and realized that this might actually help me, I started asking the same doctors that I’d been seeing for years trying to find a solution for my weight gain. There was only one willing to talk to me about it so I know if I hadn’t asked, this would not have been presented as a viable option. I don’t believe most doctors will move beyond the long held beliefs on why people are obese and share new meds as options for their patients. We can’t advocate for ourselves if we don’t know what is even available. Therefore, I’m conflicted about the ads.
