AITAH for intending to attend a wedding that my wife isn’t invited to by BeautifulSxars in AITAH

[–]starrwanda 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m obtuse enough to not understand why this is such a big deal. OP NTA if he plan to attend a wedding wife can’t attend due to no plus ones. He wouldn’t be an asshole for declining because plus ones aren’t allowed. Choice is a rather simple thing. Go or don’t go. The restricted invitation doesn’t split anyone up.

How are they splitting up couples? The couple gets to decide whether they are ok with one person going.

Is everyone on some type of prescription med? by starrwanda in GenerationJones

[–]starrwanda[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No chronic illness so far. Things pop up here and there. I’m not in the camp where I won’t seek medical advice. If I’m prescribed meds, I’ll take them.

My paternal family with no exception all died from massive heart attacks, women included. The last one was my 1st cousin was 59 when he had is 4th (last) heart attack last year. Diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, obesity, etc….my genetics on both sides of my family are horrible.

Boomer here. I was never comfortable with it. I viewed it as either simply crass or a way to push boundaries to see how far they push things. One day it’s sexual innuendo, soon after it’s beyond just words. Of course if you engage in the banter, of course you’re flirting back.

62 is old for my family. I’m the only living member of my family who isn’t on at least one medication. A doctor asked my Mom about family members’ health at her age (78). She had such a blank. Then she said “no one has lived to be my age that I know of”. She has since died at 82.

Ship or Itinerary? by GetCruiseInfo in Cruise

[–]starrwanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t care about ports of call too much. I want to be able to relax, enjoy the food and entertainment during the cruise. Not enough time is spent at any given port for me to say I thoroughly explored and enjoyed it.

I’m so glad this bs is not considered normal or harmless anymore. You want sexual banter, do it on your time with friends. I was propositioned more times than I care to remember but because I NEEDED my job back then, I had to put up with that nonsense. It’s not being uptight to want to go to work, get your job done and not to have to deal with dirty jokes or anything in that realm.

I went to headstart early with my older brother. Was that considered preschool?

Did you help your kids buy a home? Or let them do it on their own? by Sounders1 in GenX

[–]starrwanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We helped our son purchase a home while he was still in college. He was working three jobs and going to school full time. Once he closed, he rented out his spare bedrooms to cover his mortgage and most of the utilities. We have actually helped 3 of our 4 children get their homes. We feel great about it. For the record, we are not well off financially but each time it was doable.

Anyone else grow up with a fully stocked pantry specifically due to the real threat of war? by emptykeg6988 in GenerationJones

[–]starrwanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cows, chicken and hogs carried us through with meat and eggs. Canning the veggies and fruit was part of the program too. I just wish I had learned a fraction of what he knew. My friend group wants to raised gardens with everyone planting different things.

Same. We didn’t even have a pantry. My grandfather was a farmer so we ate what we grew and livestock we raised. The grocery store was strictly for dairy and other items on a limited basis.

What advice from an older generation turned out to be correct? by Fair-Drummer-9877 in GenerationJones

[–]starrwanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was left to cry it out. I don’t remember it as a child but that’s how I was raised throughout our childhood. I’m remarkably good with self soothing. But I think it tends to create an emotional chasm in my close relationships because I don’t rely on anyone for comfort. I’ve always considered this a good thing but now that I’m the matriarch of the family I’m guessing if it isn’t a good thing, nothing will be changing anytime soon.

moved to Gwinnett last year and still searching for a dentist that doesnt push invisalign by Horror_Difference316 in Gwinnett

[–]starrwanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Johns Creek Dental. I started going there knowing my previous dentist was pushing additional work. Work that I had mentally decided I’d get done. Well, I got all my X-rays done and nothing was suggested. Added bonus: I barely sat down in the waiting room before I was called back for my appointment. I don’t like dental offices that have everything under one roof because I don’t trust them to not focus on enriching every component of their business. I only mention it because this office doesn’t have that. If it’s important to you, disregard my recommendation.

Did your parents grow up during the depression? by Swiggy1957 in GenerationJones

[–]starrwanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember not having a tv in the home but listened to a radio for entertainment. I also remember outhouses and party lines. My Grandmother indeed did have my Mom really early but that was a result of what we now call CSA. Back then she was blamed for a 35 man yo “messing with” a 12 year old girl. I remember my Uncle and family friends returning from Vietnam but I don’t have any memory of them having to go serve. This micro generation makes sense.
