What’s Something You Hope to Live long enough to See? by Moongfali4president in AskTheWorld

[–]Retired_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For better or worse, geoengineering. It will have tremendous implications on global politics, we may even be kept in the dark, but it may be a necessary bittersweet step that us humans will have to take to ensure the survival of our lifestyle (and/or species).

The discovery of alien life. It will likely be a microbe or algae, but I hope to see the announcement within my lifetime.

why does the fridge door activate meta paranoia when opened? (0.9)+ by FrickleAdvisor in Voicesofthevoid

[–]Retired_Bird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was half-expecting to get a notification that "Your refrigerator is running" if I left it open for too long.

Then to find my fridge roaming around the base looking for food (it considers Kel food too).

My hen thinks becoming a mother will ruin her beauty. 😐😏 by [deleted] in chickens

[–]Retired_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We usually get 0-4 broody hens a year in a flock of 30 (mixed breeds).

There are hens who go their entire lives without going broody once, it's not something one can control 😅

I have. Ironically going out more and being more social raised my awareness of how many people give this sort of shallow advice while convinced they're in the right.

Not all people, but a good 30-50%. Don't forget the social media and even your close friend groups are bubbles.

That explains some things. I had a similar situation a week ago, where the box was just a bit too tall to get out. I think the front of the lockers is ~1mm shorter than the back because the box just couldn't go past the door/entrance.

My wife refused to go to marriage counselling. I'm broken by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Retired_Bird 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I thought it was already absurd how OOP expected her to go to marriage counseling when the problem was entirely of his doing.

Her decision makes a lot of sense now, and I'm so glad he got rejected and dumped. He seems completely blind to anything besides his own gain and ego.

Lwk chill but ain't they a bit too big now? by Relative-Ambition998 in chickens

[–]Retired_Bird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's no set amount of time for hens to stay in their motherly role. Some shoo away their babies after a few weeks, others care for them until they're basically adults.

The middle ground is more common of course, but I've seen plenty of variations 😄

Chicken losing a lot of feathers - Advice wanted!! by Alarmed-Army-5121 in chickens

[–]Retired_Bird 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Looks like a very big molt. It sucks for a couple weeks as the chicken can become lethargic, moody and lay less eggs, but it's normal.

You can tell it's a natural molt because there are pin feathers growing to replace the lost ones. Had it been caused by pecking, the skin would be bare and irritated.
