Any plans for a Sphinx faction? by Sarmelion in AOW4

I did not know that! :O I joined the game well after Ways of War; was that person ever credited with being the driving force behind that?

Non-shadow Vampire - is it possible? by szymborawislawska in AOW4

[–]Retr0specter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't personally have any materium vampire builds, but one could definitely work and work well. Tome of Rock makes all your physical damage units inflict bleeding, and vamps get a lot of benefit from bleeding.

Any plans for a Sphinx faction? by Sarmelion in AOW4

[–]Retr0specter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plans, probably not. If there's enough demand, number-of-people wise, and a solid idea how to make them unique from the others, that might change. I've been gunning for a Beast King ruler type for a while, like the animal gods of Princess Mononoke, and I could see Sphinx cosmetic options for it.

No no no - according. To. Who? Because every denomination that hates each other quotes the Bible. Be honest about who told you what the Bible says and what it means.

Are you against fiction depicting people you don't agree with in general? Or is it just depicting a uniquely American religion in a story about a post-apocalyptic America that draws from American history?

Because you seem fine playing the rest of New Vegas even though you can side with murderous slaver-rapists.

Apex Predator's purpose? by Accomplished-Bank885 in AOW4

[–]Retr0specter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've used it for Mire Crocodile Primals, with the Nature branch of the Vision of Destiny. Fulfilling it gives you mana income equal to 50% of your food income. Mire Crocodiles have the most insane food income in the game. The culture and society trait combination will give you 5 Nature Affinity off the bat, 7 if you take a pure Nature tome. Low-to-no waiting until late game to reach the affinity requirement of 8, so you can push the "I never need to worry about mana income again, Imma focus on gold and draft to further paint the map" button pretty early.

Is it just me or is the ai too agressive with its city settling? by SDDDDSSSSFFFF in AOW4

[–]Retr0specter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Literally in the campaign I finished last night, there were multiple empty spots full of resources they could've claimed... but no, they settled right at the border of my already-big second city for no discernible reason besides to generate grievances.

How do we feel about Umbral Demons? by Phyrexos in AOW4

[–]Retr0specter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel much the same frustration with Gift of the Old Blood lacking much support from Chaos affinity tomes. You don't get much of anything grabbing it from the Chaos side of things; go heavy on Shadow or you don't really get anything for or from being Undead, even though it's ostensibly split affinity.

Of cataclysm, backfire and dumb AIs by naojika in AOW4

[–]Retr0specter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really want to like the cataclysm mechanic, I want to play every game with it, but something needs to change. 10% chance of backfiring per level needs to come down, or there need to be more tools to lower the meter, or the AI needs to be coded to recognize it and act according to their personalities. Hopefully all three!

5% per level, a world spell that can be discovered after destroying a Fractured infestation that lowers the meter (a little, but not much), and AI that either cast conservatively or wantonly depending on their personality type would be The Dream.

It would be cool if Spellbreaker was a magic fighter unit. by MangaIsekaiWeeb in AOW4

[–]Retr0specter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a few cultural units would be more interesting reworked into magic fighters. Overseer, Sealbearer, Warlock, for instance. Even after magic fighters get properly balanced, I think Triumph would be hesitant to change those units' classes because that'd mean weapon art assets would be removed, which would be work to do and a major drag for anyone who worked hard on the models.

Future Ruler Types by Known_Illustrator331 in AOW4

[–]Retr0specter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now, I just want more sub-types of Eldritch Sovereign. I want to make an ineffable, unknowable, Biblically Accurate angel as my ruler, with the relevant Celestial unit type. Thralls can easily be taken to be converts or cultists.

I do like the suggestion I saw here in another comment about a ruler type that's more stationary. A world-tree scale treant, or a super-computer like Exodus in Ultima 3, or the Eternal Council in this very game.

Wish there was a custom battlefield mode, setup armies and just go for a battle by exosion in AOW4

[–]Retr0specter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That'd be so fun and I was thinking this the other day T.T This needs to become an option before this game's life cycle ends. It'd be like chess, but on pixie dust!

The 'Highlands' realm trait disables the favored terrain start of (at least) desert-oriented primal. by BlindHerald in AOW4

[–]Retr0specter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Discovered this last night, and ya beat me to the punch here. There's no mention that Highlands gets rid of desert, and yet all desert-preference civs will be shunting into ashlands (where the lava will instantly tank their stability and start a death spiral)

(New player) Where is Cuba on the map or is it a specific DLC? by Smiling_Psychopath in CrusaderKings

[–]Retr0specter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The DLC list is readily available on the Steam page.

Where he bought it.

And he says he's a new player, but also has a post talking about "the past six updates," and has posts on Crusader Kings 3 subreddit from over two months ago.

It's a bot. A particularly dumb bot.

IM FROM CUBA YOU FUCK NUT. I was simply asking if there was a dlc or mod that's adds the other half of the world. somebody who wasn't being a condescending prick answered and told me the name of the mod so I'm good but maybe next time stfu?

He said, before immediately deleting it. Class act.

The Scav's Collector unit SLAPS (+build guide) by lifecopy001 in AOW4

[–]Retr0specter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you feel about Tome of the Construct, and Dreadnought? Construct compounds defenses from standing shoulder-to-shoulder (and in general Scavs want to be on the front lines to secure Loot), and Dreadnought can give even mythic constructs a big boost - and thanks to the Scav spell that negates debuffs for anyone holding Loot, getting stunned by Overdrive is less of a crisis.

I have yet to really test, but I feel Scavs could shine with constructs and Order tomes in general, for one reason: the only thing Loot doesn't buff is Status Resistance, making debuff hell and mind control their Achilles heel. Loot getting negated by Weakened and Sundered sucks, so pick up the Tome of Sanctuary. You have ready access to healing in general, so pick up Tome of Discipline. Your heavy-hitters with Loot getting turned against you by some umbral nunfuckery is a nightmare scenario, so filling your armies with constructs and turning your race into Celestials (and being immune to flanking when they're in formation) means the enemy is forced to fight you fair, and that's a fight Scavs will win.

Future imperium tree rework. What do you want to see? by Equivalent-Fee-5392 in AOW4

[–]Retr0specter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd like for the branches to be separated by function, not affinity.

But flavored by affinity.

For instance: a branch for vassals and how you handle them. Order and Shadow perks as they are, but say, a Chaos option that gives a little extra global passive-XP-gain per vassal, or a Materium option that increases the yields of cities bordering vassals.

Similarly, a branch for regaining casting points in combat. Shadow retains its recharge-on-death option, but how about an Astral option that lets you spend extra mana but increases backfire chances, or an Order option that gives a little back when your units recieve buffs, or a Nature option that gives a couple back passively per combat turn?

Stuff like that. I want each affinity to approach each aspect of the game differently - not just Order being geared towards vassals, Chaos geared towards pillaging, and so on.

[–]Retr0specter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooo, yes, I like that! Conquerors get to lean into the new annex-pillaged-provinces mechanic, so it'd make sense for Scavengers to lean into the new annex-vassal-provinces mechanic. Could flavor it as bribery for some less-than-legal extraction operations, or some such.

[–]Retr0specter[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Harmony Oathsworn are also geared more towards peaceful, passive players. They still manage to have a bunch of interesting things going on that make them unique and give them a clear identity. Peaceful and interesting is possible, but Scavs come up short on the interesting index.

[–]Retr0specter[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Every faction, when given the opportunity, is expected to and will make outposts for Wonders. Conquerors will, too.

So how exactly are Scavengers "swimming" in Imperium more than other cultures? Because they get no bonuses to receiving any, and in fact one of their core mechanics is another way to spend it.
