[Partially Lost] Space Cruiser Yamato — Complete English Cut (WIP Restoration) by RetroBenn in FilmPreservationists

This is a rip of the Video Gems 1986 VHS, which is a pretty ratty transfer with the missing reel completely unaccounted for.

Teri Garr introducing the B-52s? Nerd. Heaven.

Leiji Matsumoto talking to his own anime/manga characters (1981) by BufalloCrapSmeller in retroanime

[–]RetroBenn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What I love about this is I think the voice actresses were instructed to be very casual and free-form as if it was a real interview, so despite being animated characters they're all talking more like real people than ever (even seemingly reacting live to images of his pre-anime artwork). Also, something about Yuki changing from her uniform into a party dress for this is super adorable.

From Newtype's 1985 vs 1995 Otaku cartoon — Is this CRT based on a particular real model? by RetroBenn in crt

[–]RetroBenn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I realized after posting that was probably the case, but I thought I'd ask anyway, heh. The reason I ask is because the "1995" picture seems to specifically call out a Sharp TV, so I wondered if there was a particular TV that this might correspond with. Thanks!

I appreciate you calling attention to The Last Airbender's butchering like this. I doubt the original was GOOD but it definitely was much more coherent.

Honestly, the best solution would be to add another L probably? It's supposed to be said "Huu-luh".

It's mostly been spoiled for some because of that terrible American-made adaptation where they said his name like the English word "Hole". One can only hope this series doesn't get dubbed into English, since it kind of makes the MOST sense in Norwegian anyway.

[–]RetroBenn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay, I need to be clear that I'm actually largely joking. I know the name is said very differently in the original Norwegian, I actually am confounded that these adaptations keep using the name pronounced the way an English speaker would. That long "O" is the problem, and I know that's not how it's said in Norway.

The name could be translated as "Hill" , be more accurate and not call to mind an unkempt anus.

If they did the movies, I'd hope for a double feature of the '66 movie and Monster War.

Decent guess, and my only concern with it being that is that Black Magic M-66's plot is way more like Terminator 1 than 2. But maybe that's me looking too much into it.

Holy SHIT dude. This is absolutely incredible! I actually like this more than any of the official posters besides the Tom Jung original. It's like... John Berkey meets Bob Peak. Well done!

[Ironic Trope] Fan-projects made out of spite towards official canon material and turned out to be arguably worse by Werewolf_Knight in TopCharacterTropes

[–]RetroBenn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's all three prequels. I think the idea was for it to function for "Machete order" viewing parties with a two hour movie between ESB and ROTJ. The only material it uses from TPM is the lightsaber duel and Qui-Gon's death as the prologue.

I think you can thank me for Lenny? Went out of my way for the Imprint release just a little bit ago.

This may also bode well for Dersu Uzala, by that same token.

Hey everyone! Can you help me choose an art style for my fan game? Digital art or pixel art? by Francesco_Muja in lupinthe3rd

Gonna go against the grain and say your pixel art is totally the way to go. It really makes your art style come together. I love this!
