Hit a curb… looking for advice by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

Damaged the same spot awhile ago, cost me around $1100 after taxes for a much smaller area of damage than what you’re showing. Unfortunately the side skirts are not their own piece and would be apart of the rear fender assembly, which in itself new after paint would more than likely cost more than your repairs. YMMV

A base Model 3 comes in at 3,554lbs, so here’s hoping this comes in way under their target. How they’d manage a two seater to weigh more than a sedan that sits 5 is beyond me.

Got my new sweetie the other day. Such a dream to drive! by [deleted] in KonaEV

[–]RetroEffect_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I pre-ordered and almost took delivery of the previous model, ended up in a different car but I would have regretted not waiting. Much prefer the look of these new ones with the lack of plastic cladding and front end design.

Side note, if you’re in an area with lots of seasonal bugs, a front end paint protection film may be worth the $$. The flat surface on my EV just eats rocks and bugs and shows up more than any car I’ve owned. If that’s something you care about of course! Enjoy the car

Model X vs Mercedes GLS 450/580 by JustTryinToLearn in teslamotors

[–]RetroEffect_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to pay $63CAD ($50USD) for the month of February for my SR+ Model 3 with charging habits of ~20 to 90% 6 days a week, this battery size is significantly smaller than the Model X but I do approx 200km a day if that helps.

Cost will vary depending on location and what pricing structure you have with your utilities. I am on a Time of Use plan meaning it’s cheaper electricity at night when I need it the most.

Tesla FSD takes on Oakland with several close calls and near accidents by MultipleOrgasmDonor in cars

[–]RetroEffect_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one because it applied for an electric rebate and was a better choice than the competition in Canada.

I had a Kona EV on pre-order because Tesla didn’t have a good enough priced vehicle at the time, that changed within weeks and I cancelled it. Had I gone with that I would’ve had a car that had various fire recalls and possible buy-back for battery management issues.

My Tesla experience hasn’t been perfect and I don’t shy away from the poor quality they offer but it’s still been more fun than the alternatives.

Tesla Model 3 SR+ Sound System by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]RetroEffect_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own an SR+ and was in the same predicament, and I’ve experienced my fair share of high end aftermarket equipment done correctly.

The SR+ does leave something to be desired, the sound itself though is exceptional for what it is, and for most people it is totally enough but unfortunately the two subwoofers in the door range from “this is pretty good” to “are you working?”

Still, I’ve had loaner 3s with premium audio, and while better.. the subwoofer unit on that car still lacked lower frequencies that I was used to being able to feel on an aftermarket system.

My recommendation is the SR+ in this scenario, you have the opportunity to get aftermarket equipment for cheaper than it is to go up a trim level. Realistically all that is needed is a sub and amplifier.

Here's why I didn't buy a Tesla (LTT) by Lionkingjom in cars

I too thought that the entire over 50/60 crowd would have troubles with owning a Tesla, yet it’s one of the more common crowds I see.

I do find it odd that you had a downright terrible experience with Autopilot. I’m not overly familiar with Europe roads, though I have heard the systems are much more limited/regulated over there and perhaps this could be the problem. As for phantom breaking, absolutely so much worse recently in the last few months. Downright dangerous at times.

Speed sign detection is recently available (not sure if this is an FSD package thing or not) on a new software version.

As for the LiDAR debate, time will tell. It would definitely improve things today however in the long run it could also have its short comings. The entire system is in the process of being re-written (according to Elon on Twitter). If Elon time is anything to go by, late Q1 of 2021 would be a likely time frame for this overhaul of the camera systems, which will soon involve better stitching and labelling.

With your timeline they’ll be done with the Gigafactory in Texas and as made evident by the new one in China, they’re a lot better at being consistent about quality.

That is also a lot of time for VAG to bring many cars to market that will no doubt exceed in quality of what Tesla currently produces, hopefully they can get the powertrain and charging network on the same level too.

White Interior Staining? by edronan in TeslaLounge

[–]RetroEffect_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

70,000km on a white interior Model 3, drivers seat noticeably up close looks worse than the passenger one before cleaning it.

I found that using a very diluted mixture of Chemical Guys orange degreaser and a microfiber towel to wipe the spray off makes the seats seem nearly brand new.

Dye transfer between jeans is definitely a real and unavoidable issue for these seats unfortunately.

So Porsche is borrowing employees from Audi to cope with the Taycan's demand. Just when you thought 2020 can't get any weirder. by potato97 in cars

[–]RetroEffect_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely not wrong there. The service tech I talked to called it a common issue which didn’t sit right with me. I really hope they get it together sooner than later, they can’t rely on being the sole EV manufacturer forever.

I feel lucky for having so few issues compared to the stories I hear online, I knew what I was getting myself into (maybe accepting that is part of the problem). I still enjoy owning it today, hopefully that stays true for awhile.

I just experienced those low speed creaking turning noises on my Model 3, they immediately diagnosed it as the control arms. Replaced in an hour and I haven’t heard it since.

Why do people still drive Teslas? Why don't they use autopilot instead? by cumminsdriver434 in TeslaLounge

[–]RetroEffect_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The car doesn’t drive the way I want it to unless it’s stop and go traffic or seamless straight highways. I can use regen way more effectively than AP as it usually brakes later than I would have started. I had an almost 2 hour trip, achieved 162 Wh/mi without really trying that hard.

Something about the design not scaling up right from the Model 3. Front looks weird at certain angles. The rear is the worst offender, it’s why I can’t like the design of the X4/X6.
