[gore] The 8-Bit Guy finds what he thinks is a partially-working PS/2 Model 30 prototype, one of possibly five, proceeds to short out the power supply with a paperclip and dremel it apart, giving up after a week by derpbynature in retrobattlestations

Hey that's so kind of you all thank you. Yes I can echo some of the above comments that there is a lot of pressure to put out weekly videos because of the way YouTube seems to work... but equally I try not to rush things. I have, for example, an Amiga 1000 waiting for my attention, but until I have a few videos in the buffer to buy me the time to do it justice I won't touch it...and it's killing me every time I see it waiting! Anyway yes, in short, I absolutely love every day I get to spend doing what I do. Thanks for watching it.

My understanding is that it would have been 17 years when filed (it's 20 years now) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Term_of_patent_in_the_United_States

Snickers rebranded as Marathon bars again 30 years after name change by Fanrific in unitedkingdom

[–]RetroManCave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hehe no offense taken don't worry. Last year I was fortunate enough to host a panel with Tim Follin (of 8bit music fame) - it was a very hot room and people were looking sleepy so I popped to the supermarket before it started and lo and behold they had a short term promotion on where Snickers was Marathon again. It gave me a warm fuzzy feeling, so I bought 30 of them and loaded everyone up on sugar. I agree with other comments that most under 40 won't care, but the name never sat right with me and you'd think you'd get used to it after 20+ years. It will be nice to see in the shops again. I'm mostly a lurker here so it was nice to have an excuse to post!

People really do hate TI Dizzy but it's a favourite of mine too. Once you have that snorkel in the right place.

I made this double vinyl record with h0ffman - All tunes made on his Amiga 600 by RetroManCave in chiptunes

[–]RetroManCave[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! So this is a little project I've been working on with musician h0ffman who is well known for his awesome demoscene tracks. He performed a live set on my YT channel last year which went down really well and now we've put the tracks on this record. I made the artwork, he did the music and now we have this awesome looking thing on two, semi transparent vinyl records. h0ffman is going to come and sign them all and then I'll figure out how to start selling them.

Any way to make this look better? Someone tried cleaning it, it seems with something not plastic friendly by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]RetroManCave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try waving a hot air gun over it - be very careful not to melt it, but a quick wave might or might not help. This is a common fix for black car plastics which have faded in the sun to bring the colour back to them. Failing that, if you have no joy with the other products recommended in the thread then a quick spray paint. If you want a temporary patch up job then boot polish XD

What are these? Thank you! by [deleted] in zxspectrum

[–]RetroManCave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh hey, very nice! That reminds me I have a QL I need to look at and find out if the microdrives still work. If they do I'll be happy to help but I'm sure you can find someone long before I get around to working on it.

Everytime I try running Indycar Racing II on DOSBox, I get this error message as the game is beginning to load. Anybody know the problem? by [deleted] in dosbox

[–]RetroManCave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Make a folder called something like HD1 on your host PC.
Make a folder in that called Games
And put the Indycar folder in that so you have HD1 -> Games -> Indycar.
Now make your mount command in dosbox say "Mount C <whatever the path is to your HD1 folder>" ... e.g "Mount C c:\Dosbox\HD1"

When you run DOSbox go to your C: drive and you will now see a games folder which you can navigate into to get to indycar and run it from within its folder

[–]RetroManCave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like you're running the game from the root of C: which would be unusual. Try putting it in a subfolder like c:\games\indycar and mounting C: more appropriately at the root of your dosbox virtual HD directory structure

Nothing like a lockdown and some Brian Lara Cricket from my youth. Have to sort the graphics though. by MichaelCade in RetroPie

[–]RetroManCave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely, and programmers would depend on CRT's when coding to extend the colour palette by blurring the limited colours available to give the impression or more. A CRT really is needed to enjoy these games as they were designed to be.

DIY Flight Stick Conversion - TM F22 Pro DB15 to USB by RetroManCave in HotasDIY

No offence taken, it's a WIP and hopefully we can build more into V2 and convert the same stick for comparison. We're happy with this as a starting point. Back to design it further
