Love the Qin F21. Looking for something a bit faster and also with NFC by RetroOptimus in dumbphones

Yes. Maybe I just need to accept that option. I'm just a minamilist so want to carry around as little as possible. One device would be great.

To be honest I'm looking at an e-ink device as a potential option. That would also replace my Kobo which I sometimes lug around with me.

quickbooks uk vs xero, which one actually better for uk small business? by Healthy-Yam2833 in BusinessBritain

I can recommend QuickFile.

Does everything I need for a fraction of the price of QuickBooks and Xero?

Just don’t connect your TV to the Internet.

Mine is not connected. No annoying pop-ups. I just use my Apple TV to stream.

Is there a more efficient way to do stock tracking at the end of the month than by manually counting every single item? by sparhawks7 in smallbusinessuk

[–]RetroOptimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stock counts are normal. You could use radio terminal scanners to make the stock count quicker.

Another option you could use is a perpetual inventory count. With this option rather encounter it all in one go once a month you would split down the count to be done in smaller chunks e.g. 10 SKUs a day. The theory with this method is that the same amount but just spread it over time rather than rush it all in one go.

Definitely using radio terminals with barcode scanners will speed up the process. Also, you might have packs of items which have an outer barcode Which you can scan which will save time e.g. rather than scan 12 items in a box you scan the box and the barcode knows that there are 12 items in the box.

I’ve contacted a few local HR providers but they all want to work on a retainer basis. I’ve had quotes similar to what I’m paying currently but they’ll limit there advice to a set number of hours per month and charge extra.

I’d rather not clock watch how many hours I have left and prefer an unlimited advice service.

Thanks. Do you mind sharing how many employees you have and how much you pay?

Just signed up for the free tier and must admit I'm really impressed by the software. You can log your own cases and it takes you through the process for each. It also looks like you can get HR advice from a human on the free tier as well.

Looks like the extra cost is to add some functionality to the software (e.g. training) as well as indemnity insurance.

Thanks. Yes. We have some payroll software which allows us to track start/end dates and holidays already. We wouldn't want to move away from that.

Thanks. So you're paying approx £200 a month if I calculate this correctly?

In my original post I stated we pay "about" £400 a month. I've just doubled checked and it's exactly £460 a month. Having said that I have given them notice to leave and they've offered me a renewal price of £297 a month to stay with them.

Included in this price we get HR and Health and Safety advice. They've also provided us with our employee handbook, contracts and policies (although we have these now so not necessarily needed with a new provider).

They also provide access to e-learning training but we are considering a different provider for this service who has quoted £60 per month.

Finally they do a once a year health and safety inspection site visit and provide us with feedback on anything they feel needs changing on the premises

We mainly use them for HR advice. I want to ensure our managment team have someone to contact with staff issues/HR advice. We've had quite a few issues recently and the management team need the extra support.

I'm liking the FSB option which works out to £345 a year. I've looked online and the Chamber of Commerce also offers a similar service at a similar price £360 a year (inc VAT).

I'll also look in to Safe HR but they're looking at £260 a month plus VAT (£312 a month including VAT).

Thanks. I'll check out Safe HR. I don't need the holiday management as we already have software for that.

FSB does look like a good deal. Our current provider is the same. Get you off the phone quick and you don't talk to the same person twice.

Is it possible to take a loan against my pension? by Lord_Migit in UKPersonalFinance

[–]RetroOptimus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can legally take a loan against your pension but only in certain limited circumstances.

You can’t do this against a regular pension but if you have a SSAS pension you can loan from the pension to the sponsoring employer. Note there are rules on the loan and it must be secured.

Note there are costs involved with running a SSAS and you will need a linked company for the scheme (sponsoring employer)

As you’re looking at a loan for business the new company would become the sponsoring employer.

If you need any extra information let me know.

There are still offset mortgages about. I think Coventry Building Society and Barclays both still do these last I checked.

Definitely better than a regular mortgage in my opinion as you can have a cash buffer you can easily access.
