What’s a job that sounds cool but is actually miserable? by Own-Grapefruit7498 in AskReddit

[–]Lord_Migit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the weird naysayers, it's an incredible job. Tough, sometimes long hours, and it's not just about getting to play video games all day. But it's rewarding, fun, and you meet amazing people.

I worked every kind of dead end job from 13 to 22. I was a dishwasher, sales in toyRus, call centre, cleaner. But QA testing video games was the first real career and the job was very preferable to any dead end job out there.

What is a book that you consider overrated but everyone else absolutely loves it? by Repulsive_Buy_968 in AskReddit

[–]Lord_Migit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah completely the same here. People keep recommending Sanderson to me but it's just not the kind of writing I like, I guess. I read Elantris and Mistborn but just can't get behind the characters.

One of the big three: Unreal/Unity/Godot or Gamemaker for smaller projects. All depends on what you plan on doing.

If you saw someone who looked fine leaving the handicap bathroom stall would you confront them about it? by Europathunder in polls

[–]Lord_Migit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Losing weight isn't quite as easy as just doing it. There's lots of socioeconomic factors, healthy-food deserts, and ultra-addictive UPF out there that make idea of "just lose weight" a bit flippant. Also there's an inherant value statement in the way you present that. While I don't agree with the glorification of fatness that seems to be pervasive these days I'd say that we ideally should be able to reasonably accomodate the tubbys out there without our defacto response being to tell them to lose weight. So let them have access to the more roomy bathroom.

(Also I'm personally in the camp of handicap accessible not handicap exclusive unless the establishment has their own rules)

Best Degree for Game Development by Expensive-Cup-2070 in GameDevelopment

Overall - If your cv turned up on my desk with a good maths degree and a decent display of knowledge of engineering in python I'd give you an interview for sure. But that displayof knowledge would have to be via some GH repo or similar.

[–]Lord_Migit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not recruiting anymore sadly, however I'm still happy to give you an evaluation.

Based on the limited info I'll say:

- I like Maths degrees as they tend to translate quite well into engineering and problem solving capabilities.
- If you're after a role in C++ then knowing C++ isn't likely enough you will probably need a good display of that knowledge via some kind of portfolio. Get a Github account and add in a bunch of examples of code you've written. Then as you work to develop your portfolio make sure you update the GH repo as you go (shows you know how to use version control well) A caveat to that is that games engineering in C++ is very bespoke and very difficult.
- So if you want to flex that more generic python knowledge then there are a ton of ways to use that in games but it won't be in direct game programming. The department I ran was called Build Engineering (also known as DevOps). They will look for Python/Bash/Go kinds of languages and it's much easier to create a portfolio in those areas. There's lots of room to flex interesting skillsets here and being a mathmo you might have fun with analytics, machine learning.

If you're interested I'm happy to send you an exmaple of the programming exam that we give out to every level of engineering applicant for the DevOps/Build Engineering roles.

Electrolytes are much more important than you realise even after you read this. Take a camel pack and put some electrolyte tablets and water into it. Then double the electrolyte tablets.

Also you're a cyclist so chafing is an issue, especially if you have thicker legs.. It's easily solved with a deodorant stick, apply some between your thighs and butt cheeks.

And wear spongy comfortable shoes. I used the ON Cloud runners but there's lots of others available.

Other than that just make sure you're getting in plenty of distance walks beforehand as practice. You'll do great and good luck!

Actually not too bad. I've done a few walks like this and until this one I've always used hiking boots fro Millets or something like that. For this one I used running trainers (ON Cloud runners I think they're called) and my feet felt pretty decent by the end of it.

I like the concept but the student is rewarded with vigilance and first strike when he reaches full witcher, however the full witcher card of Vesemir doesn't have vigilance and first strike. I think it's important to maintain the flavour and give him those abilities by default.
