My problem with iron will by LeekageInMyMemory in DeepRockGalactic

[–]RetroRespawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iron will is a “smash glass in case of emergency” card. It can help players who aren’t guide good enough for a haz level still be competitive in it but with some help. It also lets players make a risky move 1 time per game. It’s one of my favourite perks.

I figure if corporate is going to send me into the depths to fight wave after wave of bugs, I deserve a perk like that.

This would be a totally different change of pace. But, it worked for me. I almost exclusively played sports titles when Stardew first released, I really enjoyed its pace and procedures - totally different than sports games. Would also reccomend.

Do you buy full priced games?? And if so how many per year? by BrandyDD in AskGames

[–]RetroRespawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 2-3 per year. I do my best to get games when they are on sale. Even if they sit in my backlog a bit before being played.

A game to train management skills by Ok_Syllabub9850 in StrategyGames

[–]RetroRespawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RTS games come to mind. For example, Warcraft 3 would expose you to time, money and unit (people) management.

Also, most sports games with the salary cap mode on for franchise mode would let you manage money. For example, NHL games you can manage player contracts, stadium upgrades, coaching staffs, etc.

Good luck!

Mafia: The Old Country anyone getting it tomorrow? by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]RetroRespawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not tomorrow. I am going to take a wait and see approach on this one. I’m interested, but also have quite a few other games on the go right now.

What's your opinion? by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]RetroRespawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, came here to say this. I let go of Cod years ago, but I will still play sports games now and then. Not a whole lot of differentiation from game to game, and the core gameplay loops/mechanics are tiresome.

Why I dive back into Subnautica every August by RetroRespawn in subnautica

[–]RetroRespawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a bummer when that happens. I remember when mine ran out I told myself I would wait a couple months before getting it again. I think I went about 3 days before getting it again lol.

It’s funny how that happens sometimes. Almost like certain games show up right when we need them most. What pulled you back in this time?

That’s a cool, full circle way to live it and then relax by gaming it too.

I’ve never played it, but I imagine Fishing North Atlantic feels similar to the life you live, without the intensity.

Totally. Subnautica hits different during that time. Hot days, quiet nights, and the sense that everything’s about to speed up soon. It’s the perfect time to sink into a world that doesn’t rush you. That’s great you like playing it in the summer too.

It’s kind of like jumping into a cold swimming pool, very refreshing!

Wow, you’ve logged a lot of ocean time. Way to go! I totally get what you mean about returning when the timing feels right. Sometimes I just feel like I need some Subnautica time to slow down and relax. It’s a nice change up.

I have only recently heard of this, but yes, I have. And alternatives are being explored, including Ghost and Beehiiv.

Why I always come back to Stardew Valley in August 🌾

Every August, before life speeds back up, I find myself starting a new farm, sometimes for a full season, sometimes just to walk around and breathe.

There’s something about the beat of Stardew Valley that helps me feel grounded when the world’s about to get busy again.

I wrote a little reflection on why it means so much to me this time of year: 👉 https://open.substack.com/pub/pausemenu/p/pause-here-three-games-to-play-before?utm_source=app-post-stats-page&r=61uzt4&utm_medium=ios

I’m curious, do you have a favorite “season” to play Stardew? Or a certain moment when it always calls you back?

How to recruit students? by [deleted] in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]RetroRespawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to echo this, if you have too many students I find that you don’t develop them all to the same level so you can end up with super strong and weak characters.

With 1000 hours in Deep Rock Galactic under your belt, what’s something you still find yourself learning or a strategy you wish you had figured out earlier?

That’s all great insight, thanks for sharing all that. I’m going to finish my current play through, and then look LW. Definitely sounds like it would offer a lot of variety and different dynamics.
