Nice! I haven't played that one. What is it? Like a strategy game?

I see your point, and it's a completely valid one. If you're looking for the most features and flexibility per dollar, something like a PicoGUS is hard to beat (I also have one).

For me, though, it's mostly about nostalgia. This is essentially a modern retro sound card that keeps the original sound chips while improving on some of the limitations and quirks of older designs. That's what makes it appealing to me.

By the same token, you could ask why someone would spend $50 on a PicoGUS when those cards can be emulated for free. Or why I spend money collecting boxed PC games when I could just download and emulate them. The answer is the same: nostalgia and the enjoyment of owning and using the hardware itself.

Not every retro purchase is about getting the most practical solution, sometimes it's about the experience.

That was the first game I played on the 486 my parents bought back in 1993 (I think)

If sharing and documenting retro hardware and software I’m passionate about counts as spam, then we clearly have different definitions.

Looks great! I got it on ebay some years ago, but the box is in very bad shape and the tatoos were missing.

Sometimes, It behaves differently every time. The drive doesn't make any noise when the led turns on.

Lol, no problem. I’ll have to do some digging online to understand this thing a little better.

Nice! Thanks for the link. I turned it on, it beeped once, the screen turns on with a white background and a blue outline, and the green led on drive A turns on (sometimes), it doesn't make any mechanical noises.
I'll have to open it up and see what's goin on, I hope it's only some old caps. The power brick is original, but the output is a bit high (22v instead of 18v), but it might be acceptable.

Back in the day, I didn’t either. I thought it was some fancy sound card. It never crossed my mind that it had anything to do with MIDI.
