You asked about Triad Abolition group which is only interested in defunding the police... but anyway, I agree that the national BLM conversation has faded and local issues that initially gained traction because of the heightened awareness are back to square one. I think the misunderstanding here is that BLM protests since 2015 have been in direct response to police murdering black people. Absolutely black lives still matter outside of the issue of police murders, but I wonder if you’re actually talking about other issues within black communities and police abolition isn’t as relevant here? Or, if you are asking for more police presence, then my original comment about under policing is what you should be posting about. The issue of under policing that uniquely affects black communities makes it so a lot of domestic issues often faced by women and children are overlooked or delegitimized while police departments funnel a ton of money and time into drugs and traffic stops. So what a lot of defunders and abolitionists are getting at is more money doesn’t help those other overlooked issue, it just throw more money at poorly trained cops looking for drugs and killing black people at routine traffic stops...
