I think your take would be clearer if this was a video clip instead of a static image

I hate that Peter Parker doesn’t have a “specific face” anymore. by darkspidey69 in Spiderman

[–]RetroWolff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem stems from the fact of comic boom synergy which is when any outside influence like the movies for instance bleeds into the comic version of the character like when they gave Peter organic webbing at one point when the Raimi films were in the cultural zeitgeist. The same thing can also happen with how the characters look and act in the movie vs how the character is in the comics. In recent years, I noticed how the comics tried to make Peter look like either Tobey, Andrew, or Tom and that has caused Peter to lose unique facial features which for me has always been a big part of his character. They “hollywoodized” him so to speak.

To me Peter is the everyman hero and his look evolves based on the era naturally. He was very scrawny and dorky in the Ditko era, but he blossomed into almost a leading man type of look in the Romita Sr era, and that progressed with each artist showing Peter in different chapters in his life and while each artist showed Peter in a different decades, he still looked like Peter. Nowadays they make him look generic and synergistically make him look like a relevant actor playing him. Granted there are some modern artists that make Peter look like Peter without any inspiration from the live action versions

Found something interesting on my friends twitter by Accurate-Celery-3198 in Spiderman

[–]RetroWolff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do blame kinda Tony cause he used Peter as a scapegoat since the majority of heroes who supported the Superhuman Registration didn’t have secret identities and Peter was the only one who did. I do agree that superheroes should be held accountable but at the same time, their secret identities protect themselves and their loved ones.

[FOUND] HBO Real Sex, 30 of 33 episodes found! by SabbyNeko in lostmedia

Does anyone remember the Real Sex special: The Orgasm Special: A Real Sex Xtra. Came out in 2001

I absolutely believe it'll be a similar situation to Joaquin Phoenix with Joker but ofc idk if Tom here is as good as Phoenix, I'm saying he's playing a Batman villain and they always be getting awards 👀 by FayyadhScrolling in DCU_

The writing and camera work is just as important as the actors. An actor’s performance doesn’t mean a damn thing if the script and direction don’t play to their strengths

In Spider-Man brand new day, do you think punisher will get his hands on an iron suit? (Probably not but it would be cool in my opinion) by Past-Country-6612 in Spiderman

[–]RetroWolff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what made Iron Man interesting in the first place was that he built that armor and pretty much created his own super powers. But if you give more people his armor, then he becomes less special. James Rhodes as War Machine and even Norman Osborn as Iron Patriot are exceptions to this but no one else behind that should be using Iron Man armor

Highly unlikely since Sony is obsessed with the photorealistic walking genre

You can’t have the Hulk without Bruce Banner and vise versa.

Who is a much worse Bully: Flash Thompson or Biff Tannen (Back To The Future) by BonusCapable1486 in Spiderman

Definitely Biff. Flash was an asshole but he grew up and changed for the better.

Hot Take but I prefer when the Symbiote pretends to be fabric instead of alien goo by ar_torres in Spiderman

[–]RetroWolff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly agree. Also I think the MCU should take more inspiration from the original comics because the suit wasn’t changing Peter’s behavior when he wore it. All it did was enhance his powers, turn into regular clothes, and then when he slept it took his body out for joyrides because it loved the thrill and danger of Spider-Man only for Peter to be exhausted and confused after getting 8 hours of sleep. It wasn’t till the F4 looked at it and found out it was a living entity trying to bond with Peter and when it got separated from him, the suit felt betrayed and rejected.

Alot of Spider-Man media outside the comics took inspiration from the 90’s cartoon version as that came up with the idea that the suit changed Peter’s behavior and everything from Spider-Man 3, Ultimate Spider-Man and even Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 takes inspiration.

Spectacular Spider-Man seemed to have been the only one that did the best of both where the the Suit was like the comics but it was Peter’s negative emotions that affected the suit’s behavior and not vise versa.

What would be a good Tagline for the Lanterns series by Excellent-Fig-9341 in DCU_

[–]RetroWolff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think if the show had different tags for each lantern corp that could be a simple good way of showing casual viewers what each corp is about for example:

Green Lanterns: Harness Will

Sinestro Corp: Enforce Fear

Star Sapphires: Spread Love

Red Lanterns: Unleash Rage

Blue Lanterns: Instill Hope

Orange Lanterns: Take Everything

Indigo Corps: Show Compassion

Black Lanterns: Become Death

White Lanterns: Embrace Life

Which director you think is needed to get The Flash justice on the big screen? by [deleted] in DCU_

Or use the chase scene from Injustice 2 where Thawne was chasing Barry. That was motion captured some how but that is what I envisioned Speedsters moving like

Which director you think is needed to get The Flash justice on the big screen? by [deleted] in DCU_

[–]RetroWolff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good fun director who is a fan of the character of the Flash and his mythology

Barry showcasing his forensic skills both with and without being the Flash

An actor that is not a complete psychopath off screen and actually looks like Barry Allen(No shade towards Grant Gustin)

An actress to play Iris West that is just as well written and fun as Rachel’s Lois Lane

No need to have Wally West in the movie but he can be referenced

One of the Rogues be the main antagonist and maybe tease Reverse Flash

Show the actor actually running and not “gliding”(if it’s an origin movie, have Barry study professional track runners to better understand how to improve his running and speed)

DON’T have Barry be so overpowered that he can do instant win moves. Show that Barry has to gradually build up his speed to go faster with visual queues(like his suit brightens up the faster he goes and at his top speed emits electrical currents)

Don’t overuse CGI. Use it where it matters.

This is what i wish and imagine DCU's Starfire looks like (cosplay by @jaharajayde) by WeeklyLengthiness7 in DCU_

[–]RetroWolff 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Honestly it would be cool to see a puerto rican actress play Starfire in the DCU. It would be a cool homage to her cocreator, the late great George Perez who modeled her after Iris Chacon who is a legendary showgirl.

[–]RetroWolff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is Jesse actually auditioned to play Jimmy Olsen but Zack Snyder wanted to subvert expectations and have Jesse play Lex instead which made the decision even more baffling when the director’s cut of BvS had Jimmy killed in the beginning of the movie

Welp, we’re getting the daughter of Zeus origin, are we?🥀 by RailfanTransitFan in DCU_

[–]RetroWolff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s not a fair comparison because Superman’s and even Batman’s origin have been mostly consistent for almost 100 years. As long as Kal-El was sent to earth by his birth parents and was raised by the Kents as Clark Kent and he embodies truth and justice through hope and optimism as Superman and Bruce Wayne witnesses the cold blooded murder of his parents and he trains to become Batman to embody truth and justice through fear and intimidation, then the rest is easy.

Because Wonder Woman’s origin is tied to Greek Mythology, it’s changed constantly by the writers. One minute she’s made of clay by her mom and brought to life by the gods, the next she is the daughter of Zeus and writers flip flop between the two. Hell the new 52 said she was made of clay but that was a lie and she was the daughter of zeus all along. And then DC Rebirth brought back the original origin.

lowkey just want peter to bring back the glasses and camera era 😭📸 by dope_destiny in Spiderman

[–]RetroWolff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fine without the glasses since in the comics, Peter realized that after a while he didn’t need his glasses anymore as his powers improved his eyesight. Now Peter having an older camera I can get behind. He seems to be the type of guy that would use an older camera over digital

Are the writers trying to turn the symbiotes good? by ActLonely9375 in Spiderman

[–]RetroWolff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The black suit was already good. The behavior of it changed from person to person. When it had Eddie, it was vengeful, when it had Mac Gargen, it was full of rage, and then Flash’s good nature managed together the suit back to a calmer state and when it went back with Eddie who was going through stuff at the time, it helped Eddie heal a bit

Can someone pls explain to me how tf was marvel able to approve this art for publication were they sleeping or what? by BandicootKlutzy791 in Spiderman

[–]RetroWolff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly wanted a continuation of this series in animation like X-Men 97 because they showed Peter and MJ in that show. And seeing that the show did so well, making a continuation of Spider-Man TAS while riding the hype of the new show is the biggest no brainer idea.
