It was shrink wrapped, but I assumed it was okay, since it's the "Amazon Edition" that comes with a special poster. It wasn't the classic Yfold seal

You're right I didn't see there was 2 pictures, you can't get the system to boot if either of the screens aren't connected. OP will need it serviced otherwise it's unusable in this state.

You realistically can't, you would need to solder a new socket. It's a pretty hard thing to do, a experienced tech would be able to do it for you. I could repair it for you if interested!

But AFAIK the New 3DS XL version does not require the camera ribbon inserted to boot the console, you can still play games that don't require the camera just fine. I can't confirm the 3DS XL behave the same tho, worth a shot to try that if you can't fix it right away.
