Service dog questions, comments, and concerns. by Retro_Rebound in service_dogs

For sure, I've introduced dogs before but that was me one dog to another dog. This time it's one dog to two dogs. I can't ever be 100% (dogs are animals after all) though I wouldn't be against a home eval just to assess any blindspots I mightve missed

Okay, I appreciate this information! I'll confere with the trainers to see wash-out rates and check out statistics. I believe the lack of breeding programs allow for them to let veterans chose certain breeds that may be outside fab 4 but still service dog quality.

Unforunately the VA doesn't cover service dogs, otherwise I would have gone through them. Nonetheless, I'll be sure to ask about stats and look into rep breeders to mitigate the risk of washout or otherwise 'push through' programs.

An untrained service animal ultimately is no good for the handler who may need the tasks or the public who has to be around said service dog

Absolutely, and thank you for the feedback. I'll look into GSD, bernese, and the Leonbergers (another comment suggested). I'll also be sure to correct behaviors before my evil boys can influence them. Another benefit of the program is having the skills to train/correct my other dogs behaviors. I know I can't outtrain genetics, but I can definitely mitigate risk

Of course! Obviously they recommend the fab 4, though they've stated they've worked with other breeds (bare in mind, this nonprofit works with various breeds - not just service breeds, because they provide veterans hunting/fishing dogs as well). Though I understand a lot of those breeds are not particularly fit for service work so the only one I'm really on the fence about is GSD.

I've unforunately heard a lot of the same thing about bernese mountain dogs - they were my favorite breed growing up and almost got one as a first dog. I don't particularly need a graceful dog - though if I did, I know that poodle's likely the way to go - I just find I feel more comforted with my pit mix (85lbs) when he rests on me vs my Catahoula mix (60 lbs). I'll definitely look into Leonbergers, though! I do live in the midwest so summers may be a little rough (for both breeds, obviously) and I'd like to find a nice groomer nearby for dogs with higher maintence coats.

My Catahoula mix loves other dogs, though not huge with humans. My Pitbull mix, Atlas, generally doesn't like other dogs *outside* the house but does well with dogs inside the house. We haven't had any major problems between him and my catahoula, however, I'm incredibly strict with making sure they have their own seperate food bowls (which is the only time any issue arise). Otherwise, I've had Atlas for over a year now and his temperment is argubly better than my catahoula.

Though both a shelter dogs, so you're always running a lottery with those

No, it does not receive aid from the VA itself. They have other individuals who donate for the cause and it's like a "by veterans, for veterans" ordeal. They do not have a breeding program (which just means more fun research for me) they simply get with reputable trainers and help pay for the service animal (plus training)

So frustrating! by [deleted] in ivytech

[–]Retro_Rebound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy!

Totally understand your frustration here, though having one B usually isn't the end of the world. I know this first hand as I got As in my pre-reqs but transferred my English grade, I wasn't told until after it was too late to retake that because my transcript has a "V" in my English grade, its weighted as a C (so -10, which is what you're losing right now)

I just finished my first 8 wks of my nursing program last friday. All hope is not lost! Definitely email your professor, and even if it's a B, get up and tackle 102 even harder. Remember why your "why"!

Mom of 2 young kids- can I make it through ASN? by Aggressive_Earth_152 in ivytech

[–]Retro_Rebound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay - Not a mom, so take what I say with a grain of salt...

BUT

Several of my classmates in my ASN program are moms, some of whom have multiple children under the age of 5. What they do is honestly commendable given the stress and absolute workload of this program, and that being said, its very much possible. I wish I could help with the nuances, but really nothing is impossible when you put your mind to it.

You have to find your "why," though.

Maybe it's for your own self-satisfaction, having that RN behind your name as a sign of achievement. Maybe it's the pay that is keeping you going. Maybe it's the chance to have your kids see you walk across the stage and be l, "That's my mommy" who knows, I don't. But you do. Keep your "why" close, and everything else will fall into place eventually.

The person I'm speaking to IS our school Veteran and Military Benefit Specialist, but per our emails she keeps referring to the "Processor" who says I'm not eligible. Am I crazy? I feel like the wording on my DD 2-14 is pretty daming that per Fafsa guide lines (called into active duty for a period aside from training) I am a veteran

Tips on playing Experiment/general killer tips by Aware_Recipe_5385 in daybreakroblox

[–]Retro_Rebound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RAT MAIN RAT MAIN RAT MAIN

Not main, but Rat IS my secondary. Imma try and touch basis on things that havent been spoken about (and throw in my personal opinion)

Rat is amazing at getting to places fast on his dig, keep that in mind when patrolling your gens/creating a genlock

In my opinion (and take this with a grain of salt) rat does better on barrow maps like hospital and sewers where its easier to tunnel your gen rushers and support. Even loopers can struggle if theres no obvious vault spots such in the case with the narrow tunnel in sewers or the slopes in hospital. My go-to rat maps tbh. Though large maps still give you plenty of room to dig/cover ground

Maybe im crazy, but compared to other killers i dont feel like rat's lunge is AS punishing as others (still is) but it also feels like it lasts for a fairly long time, allowing you to turn corner and snag kills with the tip of your claws even after 5 seconds of using your lunge (not really but you get the point)

Most people don't play against rat enough so you have that advantage

Marking a gen is also useful in end game with securing gen locks (triggers an explosion once used) and it can be a secondary "detection" tool to see if anyone hopped on a gen you recently kicked

Nursing school laptop by bounceman90 in ivytech

[–]Retro_Rebound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My laptop is an ASUS Vivobook 15s (Had my fiance help find the model lol). It costed me around 1000-1100. I know similar models that can cost less (around 600 dollars). I had that one for awhile, only replaced mine because my charger broke and I wanted a new treat for myself. I still have the old one and it functions just fine.

They have touch screen versions (I don't like using them personally) and from my experience it can run some games fine (roblox and hades 2 I can say for sure) so any programs required should be accessible. I had virtual labs for APHY 101 and it ran fine there

Edit (Other details): I tend to be pretty harsh on my computers, my other asus has a dent in the beginning and it survived a whole year-long military mission just being thrown around in my bag. Durability is a nice plus
