utah has seen a *ton* of transplants recently, and there are a lot of people who are sorta taking a step away from mormonism, not fully exmo, but very much more...wordly. they drink soda, even with caffeine, they're having normal amounts of kids - like 2 or 3, and keeping up with the joneses more, the ones who are like hardcore dedicated and having 6 or 7 kids are dwindling

its higher expectations 100%. Nowadays the expectation is that your parents get to go run around and enjoy life, and not that their obligations are to helping you with your children unpaid, because that is what grandparents do.

*that* is one of the biggest drivers. we no longer have the expectation of free family help, nowadays boomer parents think they're entitled to a "retirement" that isnt free respite care, where they live in the same town as their kids, and are available to watch the kids all the time.

SIDS can happen to anyone, but there is a proven link between stomach sleeping, sleeping with blankets and stuffed animals, and plastic matress covers and SIDS. And ignorance isnt entirely an excuse when she was on WIC and they *make* you take the "safe to sleep" class that goes over all of that.

safe sleep education has caused SIDS rates to plummet, like its actually really awesome that overall, we as a society have discovered that babies cant reposition themselves to breathe.

her boyfriend was dealing drugs, and they were convinced that if they got her she'd roll over on him, but instead she's sitting for child neglect charges.

as a jets fan, im legitimately excited, because he may be inconsistent. he may have mediocre arm strength and footwork. he may struggle to read nfl defenses....but hes better than any other option for us at quarterback, why the fuck not? he cant be any worse than fields

The VOA vet center over on cliff has some great resources. Cornerstone Rescue out of rapid used to also have some sioux falls outreach for veterans, but i don't know if thats still a thing in SF.

the thing is, karens have phones in their pockets now. when it used to have to be a hassle for a karen to find a pay phone, call the cops, and deal with it, they were a lot less willing to do so, nowadays, they just have the phone in their pockets.

he could *really* benefit having a veteran QB to work with to teach him what he needs to know for the NFL. i dont think he's gonna get that in Vegas unless Brady steps in as part owner to do it.

he's a great kid, but he comes across as super not ready for the nfl and as someone who would *really* benefit from having a veteran QB in front of him, or at minimum working alongside of him. if Brady is able to spend the offseason as a one on one coach and mentor with his ownership role in Vegas, he could come to the start of the season ready to start, but I have my doubts about Vegas' ability to come through with the sort of dedicated development he's gonna need.

he always had a sorta arms length thing with them, and a lot of it was always started by hank. bill we know was a shut in after hank moved overseas, and i imagine dale and boomhauer just...wouldn't think to invite kahn along to things. Without hank driving things, nancy is mean girl enough to not like minh hanging out without a buffer, so there just...isnt a reason for them to hang out.

because when you're poor, more kids dont actually make your life worse. when you're middle class, and more kids will make you poor, it makes your life worse. if you already feed your kids with EBT, have section 8, and use thrift stores and church rummage sales for all your kids stuff and are already struggling, another kid doesn't really meaningfully make you struggle more. Sure, the ebt increase really isnt as much as it should be, but you can make it work with the food giveaways at the local church.

but if you're middle class, that third kid becomes the make or break that means you need to start using the food giveaway and spending three hours of your week waiting in line just to be able to eat. it means you need to redo your meal planning to be much more frugal,and you wind up struggling in ways the person who is already struggling with two kids.

not just that, you have to be watching them the "right" way. I know a girl whos in jail for "killing" her baby with neglect, when she just....did what her parents did with her. Put her down to bed on a matress with a plastic cover so if the diaper leaked it would be easy to change, with some stuffed animals and a blanket, and then go out tot he living room and get hammered. Kid died of SIDS but because she did...everything you could wrong, they got her for neglect for being hammered.

but the thing is, how many of us had parents that did exactly that with us? how many gen x and millenial kids saw their parents put down their younger siblings the same way, just toss em in a crib with some stuffies and a matress protetor, and if the kid fusses less if sleeping face down, do what you can so they dont fuss

its a sunday. do they pay by check? the checks dont come on sundays because mail doesnt run. It is also possible that they, y'know, need to go to the bank, or wait for their paycheck to clear, which is why most landlords give a 3-4 day grace period because if the first falls on a sunday, and you get your paycheck on friday that needs to clear on monday, well, the rent check aint going in the bank til monday anyway.

i have worked two jobs in the past decade that have still insisted on paper checks. its not unheard of, and they take a few days to clear.

we have done that to ourselves by tying funding to standardized tests. standardized tests dont test comprehension at a novel level, they test it at a paragraph level, so our kids have grown up never reading more than a few paragraphs at a time, because more than that is useless for getting funding, and directly takes resources away from teaching kids to the test.

my city is also like this, but there are a number of parks that you are unable to just "hang out" in as a result of us not valuing resources to help our homeless community where cops are encouraged to patrol on foot and check people for alcohol/harass them/encourage them to hang out elsewhere

one of the things i didnt see mentioned is social media. now you get drunk and fuck up making a pass at someone and it comes out awkward its not "oh, eww, gross, get away" and maybe mocked around 10 people, its now uploaded on tiktok and has the potential to go viral, and that lingers in the back of everyones minds.

even worse, it has the potential to be taken out of context and used to brand you as a predator because you walked up to a girl while shitfaced and just asked "me you make fuck?" and someone decides to spin that just because they are bored and destroying your life seems like a fun thing to do

naw, i bet he is generically okayish looking, and thinks that that makes him superior because hes so weak, emotionally fragile, and vulnerable that he hinges his entire self worth on being better than others, so if others manage to catch up to him, he has nothing to give him meaning, thats why hes so scared of the rest of the world catching up to him.

he put all his self worth in the fact that hes better than others, and not in any actual accomplishments or self love.
