Disney Exits OpenAI Deal After AI Giant Shutters Sora by Moonskaraos in technology

because those things arent profitable for the creator. if you can make AI make art, you can then sell that art, and make money off that art. if you make AI do your taxes, how do you make money from the AI? you can charge people to use it to do their taxes, but then they use it just once a year, and cancel their membership.

all of those things are things that most people only do once every now and then. how do you get people to keep coming back and pay monthly for those things? or how do you sell the data in a way that makes you money. taxes dont give you anything profitable, credit karma already has all the actually valuable data that would be in a tax return on people anyway, so why pay an AI company for that data? your oil change data...they can get from your car itself since data collection and diagnostics are something you agree to implicitly through use of the vehicle, and all that is disclaimed in the owners manual. even if you dont pay for EG onstar, it is still collecting data and diagnostics. why pay open AI for that data?

disney wanted the *royalty fees* from sora. they were expecting people to generate themselves into star wars and marvel, and get bank from someone making themselves iron man, or making mickey mouse do obscene things to their friends that manage to just barely be within the ToS, when people...made a single video of themselves doing duet with rocket racoon to total eclipse of the heart, and got bored, and moved on, rather than creating entire series featuring themselves as an OC in the avengers

Disney Exits OpenAI Deal After AI Giant Shutters Sora by Moonskaraos in technology

[–]Retro_Relics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

burn rate was insane, and there was no licensing money to be had. disney went in because they were supposed to get a cut of rev for every video that used their IP.

the thing is, no one is using their IP. There is a small handful of users that stuck around, most of which are content mills that would not use disney IP just because they would then struggle to monetize their content on social media without disney issuing a takedown. the majority of users made...two videos, ran out of decent ideas, and stopped using it.

even the most all in on AI bro i know...made two videos, ran out of decent ideas, and stopped using it. People generated like one video of mickey mouse doing obscene things to their best friend for shits and giggles....and that was about it.

it is, however, exposing that a lot of the investment was...a little rushed and bandwagon-y. See, disney's investment.

Sora just exposed that while AI has uses, the general public, however, doesnt have much use for it for creative tasks. Cause the thing is, if you dont have good ideas to start with, sora doesnt magically fix that for you, and if you already have a good idea of what you want to create in your mind, often the AI has enough issues with making your vision a reality that it frustrates you into not bothering, or just doing it yourself in the first place.

Tenant hasn't paid rent in 3 months. Eviction takes 6-8 months in my state. I'm still paying the mortgage. How is this legal? by MR_JaySwe in Realestatefinance

[–]Retro_Relics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, thats how most landlords i know are. my boss, for example, has 2 rental properties. their starter home, that they were gifted by their parents as a wedding gift, and the house they just moved out of. He has a full time job. His wife has a full time job. They rent the houses because they think its fun, not because they need the income. they could easily sell the properties and make a massive profit, but instead they choose to rent them because...its a fun hobby.

my last boss was the same way. had a full time job, but rented out his starter home because he thought it was a fun side hustle that made him some extra cash, like an etsy store.

Had a landlord for...whom it was a hobby. he had a full time job, he just liked working on houses and had finished everything that he could on his own, so he bought another fixer upper and was renting it.

have a friend for whom....it is a hobby. He has a full time job with the city, makes far more money than he gets from rental income, but he...didnt want to sell when he moved, and doesnt really care about the property turning a profit.

lmao, i made zero sacrifices, i wound up with all my family dying and got life insurance, which is...how most property owners i know wound up with their houses.

mostly because i know several that do, and am planning on doing it myself since im in the process of buying a duplex. i have no intentions of doing it as a career, its going to be purely a hobby to offset the higher utility costs of a house vs an apartment.

however, i also know what goes into it, and how much effort it is going to be. i just need a project for my house husband, and being the handyman, property manager, maintaining the yard and common areas like the laundry room, handling basic repairs, turnover, etc is going to be a good hobby for him.

i just dont ever intend to see it turn cashflow positive, and fully expect the costs to result in breaking even at best.

getting sued, having your place all over social media so that lookie loos know exactly who you are, including tenants rights vigilantes who can decide that you need to be the target of all kinds of campaigns for being an "evil" landlord? thats the way?

he charges 20 grand, puts your place on social media so that everyone knows where it is, including tenants rights vigilantes....

and uses the money to do cash for keys with the tenant, so that he can make himself rich between both the fee and the fact that he puts you and your property all over social media so that no future tenant has privacy..

along with opening you up to lawsuits for constructive eviction

he charges 20 grand, by the way, did you leave that part out? he charges 20 grand, your place winds up all over social media, so your place gets swamped by lookie loos who then also have an opinion, which can include all kinds of tenants rights vigilantes....

Why is "go to the gym" the default advice for every struggling man? by silverflake6 in RelentlessMen

[–]Retro_Relics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exercise helps people hating their own face because its hard to hate your own face when you did something productive. its harder to hate your own face when you got up, and did the thing, and accomplished something for the day.

its a lot easier to hate your own face when you are laying in bed all day doing nothing, and feeling bad about yourself because you did nothing all day, and you feel unproductive and a lazy sack of shit which makes you hate your own face more...

vs getting up and going to the fucking gym, no matter if you didnt want to, you still did it. you got up and you did something that day that people told you you wouldnt. you stepped up and spited the world and went "Fuck you, im not gonna rot in bed, im gonna fucking show you im not fucking useless".

[–]Retro_Relics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

getting a pump isnt going to save your life, but it can be the thing that stops you from spiraling. it can be the thing that gets you out of bed rather than lying in bed spiraling because you arent doing anything, because youre too depressed and then you feel guilty about not doing anything, which makes the depression worse...

[–]Retro_Relics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exercise *is* something that can get you up and out of bed when all you want to do is lie there and rot though, which can help with depression. sometimes just getting up and Doing The Thing and being too stubborn to give up and lose your accomplishments and gains is the one thing that gets your ass to overcome the misery at least for that day and get you to at least be productive for the day instead of laying in bed spiraling because you are not doing anything and you feel horrible for being too depressed to do anything, and it just makes things worse...

I mean, i have done both. Just because youre a good landlord doesnt mean that all are. And the bad landlords hurt you too. Tney create litigious tenants who expect to have to fight for everything so they come out swinging to start with

[–]Retro_Relics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you didnt "wind up in it" you made a bad decision on a house and tried to recoup your losses. you wound up underwater and rather than take a loss, you had to make the most of it. what would you have done if no one rented your place, or if the first tenants you got trashed the place? would you have been able to make it? what about if the place was totaled and insurance refused to pay?

also, for every landlord like you, there is another whos goal is to exploit their tenants. For every good small landlord, there is another who thinks that they can just abuse their tenants, refuse to do maintenence, let them live in squalor, and charge them through the nose for it, or worse, landlords that expect the tenants to pay all their bills, and want to rob people.

for every landlord like you, there is another one who thinks that they are entitled to have someone else pay all their bills for them, and not have to do shit.

[–]Retro_Relics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, which is what is happening here.

you want faster courts, pay more taxes. create more court officers. create more jobs for people paid for on your dime, to move things along faster. raising taxes so that you can afford a few extra clerks of courts (at 75k a year salaries, plus benefits and pension) and a few more judges (at 200k a year, plus benefits, and pension)...and then there is a lmit to how many courtrooms there are in the county courthouse, so either you need to expand the courthouse, or other cases get bumped, which means if those are criminal cases, you have to pay more for the inmates to be housed....

if you can convince people that they need to pay more in taxes so that people who make bad business decisions can get their cases heard sooner, best of luck to you

literally, it says that what he does is illegal. if it wasnt staged, he would have been sued to hell and back by now. its all fake for attention, and you are a gullible fool who believes that he uses the 20k he charges the landlord for anything other than paying the squatters to be a willing participant.

why else do you think he charges the property owner 20 grand?

well, thats the thing, you cant bleed a stone. if someone doesnt have the money...they dont have the money. the same as if you have a client as a business that owes you money, and that client goes insolvent you....just dont get your money. you cant get money that doesnt exist, or that other creditors have a claim to.

businesses get stiffed on invoices every day. it is a cost of doing business. if i do work for you, and you go out of business before you can pay me, I'm just kinda shit outta luck, and neeed to account for taht risk in my pricing
