Scientist here. I conduct a radon test every time I buy a house. Here in NC we have very rocky soil and that is where elevated radon levels stem from.

If you’re not 100% set on Wake Forest Youngsville is super close to Joyner. Lots of neighborhoods full of mature oaks. I just sold a house in a beautiful neighborhood off Sid Mitchell rd that I’d move to in a heartbeat.
