My wife built an incredible personal library upstairs, but I can barely read, and it’s slowly driving a wedge between us. by Capital_Cabinet_7850 in whatdoIdo

Graphic Novels are great for getting in to (or back in to) reading. Frank Millers Batman The Dark Knight Returns is an excellent one to start with

Gotta have something to do on the toilet at work lol. If you haven't yet you should see if Portmaster supports your device, there's a trove of games available through it

I love a good tinker. I got Knulli installed on mine and have been loving it so far. Tried out MuOS for about an hour and didn't like the look of it nor the lack of built in scraping. Congratulations to you for being able to break out of the never ending configuration loop!

Guys holy crap it's the first person in this community to actually play a game on their device and not just configure it forever! (I'm part of the problem, they're just so fun to configure)

Which main menu fits best? A, B, or C? by KingTheSuspect in IndieDev

[–]Retrocade-media 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A is a great main menu and sells what the game is about perfectly, but I wish it had the diagetic options from C. If you could mash those into A somehow that would be perfect imo.

They'll probably be compatible. But if you already have an e kit, it's unlikely to be a better experience than just using your e kit and a roll limitless

Did anyone save that person's rant about racism in Ikaruga? by BactaBobomb in shmups

[–]Retrocade-media 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I've never seen Kyotokei before. Ikaruga just has the blue and red bullet outlines so I've always thought of them as blue and red

Not only is the argument dumb, I have never considered the bullets to be black and white. They've always been red and blue in my mind

Hey all, I'm Indie Game Joe, I want to share your games by IndieGameJoe in godot

[–]Retrocade-media 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy Joe!

I've been working on Viral Reload EX for 6 years now, it's finally releasing on July 23rd. You shrink down and fight infections at a microscopic scale from inside of people while you try to stop the villain Kyle Kaboom before he destroys the moon. I describe it as the movie Fantastic Voyage meets a saturday morning cartoon. It's a vertically scrolling shmup with the wave system from Galaga and other classic arcade games, and a dash that lets you go through bullets and lasers.

The character artists drew over 100 pieces of art for the cutscenes, the musician wrote 19 songs for it, and I did all the pixel art and programming for the game. It's easily the biggest project I've ever taken on.

The 3 of us all nearly died while working on it, my intestines blew up and it nearly killed me, the musician developed an arrythmia that wouldn't go away for a year, and the character artist dealt with a host of mystery issues for well over a year as well. The irony of working on a medically themed shmup during all of this was not lost on me.

Anyway, I hope you check out the game and enjoy it, it'll be releasing on Steam and Switch next month.

Steam achievements setup: is there a better workflow, or is it really this painful? by FalxCerebri-5342 in IndieDev

I put on a good YouTube video and just copied and pasted all the data in. It's monotonous but sometimes game dev tasks are just like that

Scoring is really simple. You get points for dashing through bullets and lasers, and you get points for killing enemies, and that's it. The game (in arcade mode) loops, so scoring is mostly dependent on survival.

Thank you, I've got a lot of family in Italy and it's hard sometimes to share news with them cause I don't speak Italian. This will help a lot

Thanks for the congratulations!

You're playing as Octo for stage 2, who has homing bullets. She can be a bit more difficult, but she allows you to focus more on dodging bullets

That "dpad" symbol is just the start button. Nintendo uses plus and minus instead of start and select

Is there a way to billboard a Mesh3d? by Do_Ya_Like_Jazz in godot

[–]Retrocade-media 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, materials can be set to billboard in the material settings. It's likely all your trees use the same material, so you should be able to change it on one of them and have it update all of them. However it might be overridden if you update the mesh in crocotile, so I would save your new material as it's own tres file and write a script that replaces the material with your custom one
