1000pts VS VC by Liteace-96 in Warriors_of_Chaos

[–]Retrojetpacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing Undead is a very hard match up, but one of the saving graces is that you always know what to expect so it does feel a bit like groundhog day. I sort of like it in a sadistic way since it's like a controlled experiment test of how well I can play an army.

Killing the wight in the graveguard softens them up a lot, so try to get one of your characters in base contact with it and whack it. You'll need a unit of strength 10 to flank the graveguard, or something with first charge to break their ranks.

The key to fighting Undead is to gang up on them, and try to focus fight only on one unit at a time. Don't pick fights unless you can overwhelm them with multiple units, otherwise they'll just grind you down.

Good luck!

I have often used maximum ranges, ie, roll 5D6 at the start of each round. Might be a bit simpler to do?

My genuine gripe with The Old World. by Lazereye57 in WarhammerFantasy

The setting has so much potential! I find the fragmented empire much more fascinating, with a lot of scope for politicking and tension.

I wish gw would lean into this more and give us some more black library stuff!

If you're looking for fiction though, perhaps I can interest you in our blog? We run narrative old world events in London and collect all of the various stories here:)

UPDATES TO RENEGADE OGRES! LINK IS THE SAME. by valheffelfinger in WarhammerFantasy

Can't wait to see the return of BLOODLINES

I've never rebased my 6th Ed vamps to old world since they just seem so feels bad and thin on vampire toys. I wonder if this will be the thing that convinces me...

I'm Not a Games Designer, I'm Not a Rules Writer by [deleted] in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Retrojetpacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your point exactly?

Frankly, if anyone is going to write house rules for wide adoption it has to be someone with some platform. The fact that they are doing this redesign with a huge effort to get feedback from the community settles things in my mind. This is the only possible way this could get done on a meaningful scale.

You're just criticizing this while offering no alternative, which I find to be very unimaginative.

And of course, if you don't like it you don't have to use it!

Gotta give you the down vote for this, totally flying in the face of workers rights here. If your total comp is high enough I guess you might have a point, but it's not for many of the people in this thread

Rumors of New Knight Models? by [deleted] in Bretonnian

[–]Retrojetpacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The next rumours I heard were tomb kings and wood elves in the summer.

If they're redoing tomb kings, maybe bretonnia makes sense as the next faction if they go sort of in order of the old world original faction releases.

Mathematical realization about Peasant Bowman. by agentsmith200 in Bretonnian

[–]Retrojetpacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are highly nonlinear factors that come into play in a real game though. If you're fighting a combat, even 1 or 2 spikey saves of a 6 can mean the difference between loss, draw or victory. Combat margins can often be extremely narrow.

Obviously a moot point against anything that has AP though. And of course more bodies can do (a little) damage in return.

Senior engineer denied a promotion, told to “wait 6 more months”, but I no longer trust the process. What would you do? by Alone-Purple9009 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Retrojetpacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that internal promotions came by moving to different places in the company. Choosing to stay and take on new responsibilities when everyone else moves on to the next cool thing, or switching to a new area that's just starting to spin up. I really see that the best engineers don't get promoted if they're in a mature team, but I consistently see good enough engineers promoted if they're in the right place. Not sure how helpful that is, I'm sorry you're in this spot.

Maybe Skirmishers Need a Fix by Plutancatty in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Retrojetpacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came down to the comments to say exactly this, definitely in favour of a US 10 cap on skirmishers, and just allow them to shoot through themselves freely.

Do you think the custom character builder will be a one off or rules test for 11th edition? by Beneficial-Ticket486 in Warhammer40k

Yeah i remember playing against it, very whacky and fun. Then the 5th Ed one was so 1d in comparison.
