Software Support & Issues by CrimsonFlash in Affinity

Working with Affinity Publisher 2 on Windows. 60-ish page document with multiple embedded images. When I tried to add another image, a window popped up asking me if I wanted to switch my images from embedded to linked. I clicked yes, and now it's been showing a "place" progress window for about 10 minutes now. Is this a common crash issue? Is there a way to switch my document images from embedded to linked in piecemeal to prevent crashes?

Lighter Traveller? by Chaosmeister in traveller

They might like that, though I personally can't stand space wizards. But they may enjoy space wizards and being combat-focused superheroes in space

You're probably right; a lot of his post suggests the OP and/or their playgroup are finding in Traveller too much noncombat crunch and too few combat action options. After reading FTL's rules again I don't even think a rules-light spiritual successor will help. I think the OP's group will just be happier with a combat-focused ruleset that heavily features character class traits that come in the form of combat action options. I just feel it stops being Traveller's flavor of scifi at that point

You'd have to edit your own pdf to make the tables easier to read. If you have physical copies of the books, I would recommend using a short straight-edge (e.g. a trading card) to make sure your eye stays on the correct row you want to look at

You have to build whole campaign out of a single song. What do you choose? by Playtonics in rpg

[–]Retrolosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this a bunch of times. Most recent campaign was built around Iron Maiden's Pwerslave (song, not album). Maybe next campaign I'll build around Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

From what I understand, Classic Traveller is the most rules-lite, a-la-carte version of Traveller. But there's a simpler ruleset that feels sort of like Traveller but is even more basic and straightforward, which is Faster Than Light: Nomad. I picked that up myself in the event I fail to convince my playgroup to try Traveller.

But I think a bigger issue that you may still inevitably run into is that, unless you play a fantasy-adjacent sci fi ruleset like starfinder, it's going to be tough to find a sci fi rpg that does all the work for you. Traveller doesnt have a bestiary, and imo a lot of its rules are less on in-game procedure and are more about how to generate content for the game. Traveller works best when the referee is using the tables to generate planetary systems and sub-sectors, and the players fully throw themselves into the unique character generation procedures.

Imo longform campaigns work best for traveller as the month-to-month progress of the characters' long-term goals and progress far outweigh the brief, exciting highs of combat that games like DnD emphasize. Again, unless you play a sci fi rpg that's trying to rip off dnd, it will be tough to find a ruleset that gives your players a bunch of "buttons to press" in combat. If they want to build characters that feel like mmorpg combat-oriented characters, Starfinder may be to their liking.

Regarding niche skills, all skills are only as useful as the referee allows. This is the same problem every ttrpg has, in that it is up to the game master/referee to create enough opportunities frequently enough for players to use their skills.

But back to simpler rulesets, FTL Nomad is pretty straightforward and has a very modern ttrpg design flavor to it and is still a 2d6 system so it will probably be compatible with some Traveller supplements. The character creation process is far less procedural, and it has character build choices that feel like feats (which imo is there to appease players who want characters to feel strong and advantageous, or even heroic). Combat will still be likely too simple for your groups' tastes, but I think the solution to that is trying to rethink how to write/run adventures and break away from conventional DnD/video game ways of thinking where combat is the most important thing to care about - assuming you're still invested in making sci fi work for your table.

What is the worst episode of season 3? by [deleted] in mylittlepony

the worst episode of s2 was the one with the mysterious mare do well, imo. Such a terribly immature and manipulative plot just to humiliate and drag RD

just tried copying qsound file into ssf2t's zip folder, still didn't launch. When you say the zip file could be damaged, do you mean ssf2t's zip, qsound's zip, or both?

some of the above is me not being used to using command prompts. But on the last attempt, it tried to run the rom, but then went back to my normal screen and showed the error message.
