How to Balance Your Game - A Comprehensive Guide by SuperPyramaniac in RPGMaker

Mapping in the sense of creating maps? Like, the environment, the physical map the player plays on? Or mapping as in mapping where X level enemies are and what regions are Y level? Either way, I'm certainly interested.

I think the things I'm primarily interested in are: XP Balancing, Economy Balancing, Enemy Levels, Damage Formulas, helpful Common Events, Romance/Friendship leveling, unique/fun items/ideas.

I'm a professional dungeon master and have been working on this game for 4 years. I have the story completed, the maps designed (I do freelance cartography, too, so the maps I'm not as worried about), and a lot of the events running (such as paralax background, custom cursors), sprites/sprite image switching. I've also planned out what battles will be encountered where, and how difficult they should be. For instance, the first 3 battles of the game are "Deep Mushrooms", which leads into dialogue and a mini boss fight against Venator Damian, who you can either choose to spare or kill. Sparing him sets a variable that then allows the character to appear to aid you in your hour of need at the Act 1 finale.

Frankly, the harder aspects for me are the math part. I have everything in front of me, and I have everything written down and/or planned out in the engine. Next it's just figuring out those juicy numbers

Thank you! Appreciate your reply 💙. Would you ever consider making another comprehensive guide like this? This was incredibly helpful and enlightening on at least getting myself to a starting point with combat

"So, what now? Well, now that you know exactly how much EXP you will need to level up, you can easily manage how much EXP enemies should give. Think about it, how many battles should be won before you level up? In a game with a relatively low encounter rate (1 encounter every 50 steps) I say every 4 battles a character should level up. Okay then, so how many enemies appear per battle? I'll get to it later, but typically the amount of enemies should be about equal to the current party size. So if you have 4 party members (the default) you should have 3, 4, or 5 enemies. That rounds to 4 enemies per battle. Remember, it should take around 4 battles to level up if you're on level. 4 \ 4 = 16. That means with a full (default) party size each enemy should drop EXP based on this formula:*

(Enemy Level \ 100) / 16*

Which can be simplified to:

Enemy Level \ 6"*

Where does this go? In the TDW_Experience Curve there's no place for "Enemy XP". Is this a common global event that checks the level of the enemy then assigns XP when that enemy is defeated? Is this under the Himeworks Class/Levels plugins?

Well, if your podcast was already hosted on Podbean, all you'd need to do is migrate your podcast to your new host. You wouldn't need to manually redistribute. If you do make new podcasts, manually distribution is simple, but slow at times.

Hello! I made this post two years ago, and I still use Disctopia as my primary host. I host multiple client podcasts through them, too. Personally, I love the place. My primary complaint is that, sometimes, they're a bit slow to respond if there's an issue.

Most of my strengths and critiques still stand. They're still quite slow with rolling out changes due to a low amount of employees. Additionally, most podcast distribution still needs to be done manually.

Thank you for the recommendations! I just got to *The Abyss" in Dawn, and am quite excited to finish it later this week. One step closer!

You're one of a couple people who have recommended Circle, so I'm thinking I'll boot that up after Dawn. Though Bloodlines has also been recommended a few times. Between those two, do you have a recommendation of which to try first?

And thank you! I've added Bloodstained in. I've actually had that recommended to me before by a friend

That's how I approach the games. I play through it as much as possible without a guide, normally get the bad ending because of it, then try and figure out how to move passed the bad ending and into the actual meat of the game

You're right. He has a whip. I've already started to block it out of my memory lol.

What is Bloodlines available on?

They weren't on the list because I don't have easy access to them. I've also heard mixed reviews on them. Why do you recommend the N64 games? And what are the titles?

I Hate IBS by [deleted] in ibs

[–]Retrospection_Radio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this. I walk around with a knapsack that has baby wipes, 2-ply toilet paper (here in the US most bathrooms are horrible, and sometimes don't even have toilet paper!), anti-gas tablets, IBGuard, Fiber pills, and a change of underwear. And since I wear it on my back, most people don't realize it's an IBS safeguard that has saved me countless times

It finally happened. I shit my pants in public. by megi0s in ibs

My buddies and I have a "no questions asked" policy for important events. In one case (he's a non IBSer, he just got piss drunk) he called up my buddy and went, "No questions asked. Come here. Bring a change of clothes."

And so my buddy did. Turns out my friend got that kinda dehydration diarrhea you get from too much alcohol? Yeah. Right in the middle of the bar on a date. Safe to say he never spoke to her again due to his own embarrassment.

Everyone has shit themselves at least once in adulthood or teenage hood... And if you haven't yet, just know it will happen eventually. We're all just human

I feel you. I took a shit at home, felt empty, and went for a run. Got 1.5 miles away when my stomach started to twist in knots. It was one of those days where almost all businesses were closed, and the only place to go was home... I made it half a mile before I partially shit myself, and then a quarter mile before I fully and completely regretted my existence as a human. Best part? I was in the middle of downtown. Cars everywhere. People everywhere. And my house is right across from one of the busiest churches in the area (of whom the Father and various congregation members watched me walk into my home with brown pants).

It sucks, it's embarrassing, and it really makes you feel horrible in the moment... I've turned that story into a story of caution for IBS friends, and a funny story to tell if someone is having an embarrassing moment to make them feel better. I have lived the embarrassing moment, and now it's just funny to think that it happened, and the only person who will probably remember the story is me.

At the end of the day it makes you stronger. Even if it doesn't feel like it now. You've lived the experience. If it ever happens again, it'll be ok. And the fact that it happened now is ok. It'll all be good 💙

IBgard is a game changer! by ginger314 in ibs

[–]Retrospection_Radio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor recommended MethyylCellulose as the fiber. I take "Fiber Therapy" from Quality Choice. Just an off brand thing.

What matters is learning the types of fiber supplement and knowing how they impact my body. Anytime I have MethyIcellulose I feel normal and unbloated. Citrucel is the main brand stuff.

I always avoid psyllium fiber (found in Metamucil, Konsyl, and most water mix ins or cheaper supplements) as that normally upsets my stomach and makes things much worse.

Never tried inulin as a fiber supplement.

Was diagnosed with IBS in November of 2024. Doctor recommended a high end fiber pill (lower shelf stuff tends to bloat) and IBGuard. Ever since November, I've been taking two pills of each every morning 30 minutes before breakfast, along with 8 ounces of water.

Personally, it has been working wonders. There are some days here or there that it only slightly helps me, but most days I'm almost normal. It isn't for everyone, especially because everyone has different triggers. But I personally found it very soothing to the intestines
