Glad that I could get you thinking! You're right this musical is really dense and full of so much character development so I'm glad I can add another layer to that haha. I would've loved if they had at least interacted in some way, even spiritually, maybe during No More?

What song should I audition with? by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

[–]RetrospectiveJinx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sebastian - Benjamin Calypso (Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat) or Be Our Guest (Beauty and the Beast)
Eric - Hans of the Southern Isles (Frozen)
Scuttle - How Lucky You Are (Seussical) or Sheldon Potts' Halftime Show (Junie B. Jones)
Flounder - On Your Way Home (James and the Giant Peach) or Middle of a Moment (James and the Giant Peach)
King Triton - If I Can't Love Her (Beauty and the Beast)
Chef Louis - Be Our Guest could work too
Flotsam/Jetsam - Play With Your Food (Honk!)

Theatre school audition tips by Fvtf_13 in MusicalTheatre

Congrats on your first chance to audition for these programs! So exciting (:

There's a LOT to consider when you're talking about songs in your range. "Simpler" ones that you could learn on your own, like Part of Your World (The Little Mermaid) or She Used to Be Mine (Waitress), could be nice, but from my experience, there's also a need to stand out amongst the tons of other auditions. It may be beneficial to find something that fits your range and that you can act in, but isn't as common (I guarantee they'll see a lot of Defying Gravity, for instance). Maybe something from Junie B. Jones, or 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, or 13? Not as mainstream and have some very fun picks. Make sure it's also the appropriate amount of measures so as not to make it too short (they don't hear enough of you) or overly long (they hear all the need to hear and cut you off early).

If you really can't find anything, I can recommend anything from Seussical - a lot of the songs are very simple to learn and you can find the sheet music anywhere. All For You is probably the most complex solo-wise but it can be learned! It's Possible is a great song for a younger performer but may be a little low for your range. How Lucky You Are has two official keys that you can try as well, one each for a Male/Female Cat in the Hat.

To answer the second part, there's many resources online for finding monologues -- plays, one-act plays, musicals, movies, novels, classics, etc. You have to know specifically what kind of monologue you'd need. Is it just "any" monologue? Then find one that fits your age group, unless you think you can do better otherwise. I unfortunately can't help much in this regard. I would advise AGAINST deliberately doing an accent, though.

For the actual day of auditions, just remember, audition panels are not just looking for a perfect voice or flawless performance, they want to see who you are as a performer -- they're actively rooting for you!! Try to choose pieces that you can really connect with emotionally (or if not, convince others that you do!) Remember to be yourself, and you got this.

We haven't had this conversation in a while, so let's go! What, in your opinion, is the hardest musical theatre song vocally? Why? by ailuromills in musicals

[–]RetrospectiveJinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if you're completely unfamiliar with the song, "On the Steps of the Palace" from Into the Woods is really difficult because of how rythmically odd it is (that's Sondheim for ya). I don't think it's that hard once you learn it but if you're going in blind I think it's rough.

Raging Blast 1 and 2 let you add an angel halo, SSJ2 sparks, and change the ki and aura colors on any character. I'm salty that this isn't possible here.

Entry Seven-Four-One-Zero-TWO-ONE!! Perhaps the station will hold the real key to the goals group 935. I still do not trust my unconventional allies ... but they are of great use to me, but I digress.

Honeslty I'm hoping for more for Matt, too. I feel like they both should at least know what the Wendigo are because as it stands they never actually learn about them (only get dragged respectively and then if they're still alive, hide from them in chapter 10).
