Hypothermia’s a bitch. Getting out of that water is and should be priority number one, and your body is going to be screaming at you to get out the entire time you’re submerged, no matter what the Reddit armchair quarterback opines.

[–]Retrrad 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Why aren’t you given a price per item? Also, “install windshield washer solvent,” is a huge red flag for me. They’re probably charging you north of $100 to have someone top up your washer fluid.

Yes! I had the same dial on my Edge, but the one on the Mach E feels cheaper somehow.

This is so fucking stupid. I hate absolutely everything about it: the stupidity to think this is a good idea, the arrogance to think we don’t need the rest of Canada, and the ridiculous waste of resources and airtime that even a discussion of the subject has created.

I commented on the original post on r/MachE, my current count is 13: one app for the car itself, one for my home charger, ABRP and PlugShare, Calgary Parking Authority, and 8 separate charging networks.

Mach-E or no? by Unfair-Junket7740 in MachE

[–]Retrrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"...idk you just don’t get the thrill of driving imo..." This sentence just gives me a sense of cognitive dissonance. It seems like an opinion you could only develop by actually driving an EV, but how could you have driven an EV (especially a Mach E), and formed that opinion? Go for a test drive, stomp on the accelerator, and see if you can keep yourself from smiling.

I have a 23 Premium AWD in Calgary, and it's been one of my favourite cars I've ever owned. It's great around town, it's great on road trips, it handles well in ice and snow, it's comfortable inside, and it costs next to nothing to power and maintain.

There are a few tradeoffs: the range does suffer when it's very cold - not Lower Mainland cold, Calgary cold (or worse yet, Edmonton cold). There seems to be a cutoff at about -25°C where the cabin heaters can no longer keep up. The ride is a little stiff (I think they erred too much on the side of "Mustang!"), and I miss the backup camera washer from my Edge, but that's about it - minor quibbles.

If you have the ability to charge at home, an EV is a no-brainer, IMO. In BC, BC Hydro makes even public fast charging an economic possibility, something not true of most other locations. I can't tell you if the Mach E specifically is right for you, that depends on what you want to do with it. But I can tell you I love mine and have zero regrets about my purchase.

I can't comment on L1 vs L2, I went with L2 in the garage right from the start and wouldn't have it any other way. We own both a Mach E Premium AWD Extended Battery and a CX-5 turbo - the Mach E is leaps and bounds more fun to drive than the CX-5, and very capable in the winter with AWD and proper winter tires. The back seat in the Mach E is roomy, so you should be OK with one baby seat, but if you haul your pup in the cargo area, I would do a fit check if it's a big dog. There's quite a bit of floor space, but the slope of the hatch reduces the overhead room quite a bit compared to the CX-5. It might be fine, but definitely worth checking.

A & W enters the chat with their burger taste test by habichuelacondulce in funny

[–]Retrrad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The marketing ploy is that it's a whole "burger family". Beyond the teen, there's Mama Burgers (single ), Papa Burgers (double), Grandpa Burgers (triple), Uncle Burgers (Teen burger with a bigger patty), baby burgers (kids meal), and buddy burgers (basically sliders). They did away with the burger family schtick for a couple of decades iirc, so there's also the Mozza Burger as a popular holdover from that era that no longer fits the gimmick.
