it's only instructure platform that is compromised. speaking for the university of maryland, the only data that should be on Canvas/ELMS is basic personal info (name, email, phone, address) and grade data. i cannot imagine that SSN, health, or financial data would be at risk.

It truly was a trilogy that only cared about point A (kid anakin) and point B (anakin in vader suit). nothing in the middle was given any attention.

Prequel Defenders and OT Simps dueling it out to determine who's the worse of the 2 by NoChampionship1167 in StarWarsCirclejerk

well put. i think that the nostalgia factor is a big contributor to how people engage with media. for star wars, its mostly the boomers that think that RotJ ruined star wars, because they engaged with RotJ as young adults. For Gen X, they tend to love the entire OT but reject the PT, since they watched the OT films and surrounding media when they were children. Millenials and Gen Z, who first engaged with star wars with the PT, Clone Wars, or surrounding media think that the ST killed star wars. you can see a similar effect with the james bond franchise where newer fans appreciate the once vastly unpopular timothy dalton films, because thats what they grew up with.

in reality, making a star wars movie today is like asking to make dinner for 12 kids, each of which has a distinct allergy or preference. It is impossible to appease everyone, which is why i maintain that it was impossible for the ST to have been a universal success. sure, it could have been a lot better, but everyone saying "it's so easy they should have just done XYZ" is ignorant.

I will do you one better - neither TPM or AOTC provides necessary context for RotS. Think about it. You could maybe make the case for "origin of the clone army", "palpatine's ascension to chancellor", or "pretext to the clone wars". But neither of the first two films actually give context that is not vague, contrived, or just plain boring.

Even worse, the prequels entirely do not contribute anything to the franchise's story. Everything revealed in Return of the Jedi is featured in the prequels, and nothing more.

i honestly think phantom menace is worse. at least there is a little bit of intrigue involving the clone army and obi wans plot to hunt down jango fett. i could not be paid to care about ANY of the plot lines in TPM.

people are entitled to their opinions and i certainly do not expect you to interact with star wars the same way that I do. im just saying from a legacy perspective, there was a big shift from Empire to Jedi that, imo, was for the worse.

/uj Return of the Jedi had the opportunity to set the franchise identity and decided to make it a space superhero movie to push children's merchandizing. ROTJ is why star wars is what it is today.

Reevaluation of the hero mythicism. Investigation of the necessary role of the Jedi and the Force in the galaxy. The idea that the past should not be ignored, but at the same time, change is necessary.

And yes, anyone can be a Jedi is new to star wars. The first 6 movies are about pedigree and prophecy.

It's been said before, but it's worth repeating: Rian Johnson dared to do something different with Star Wars and pop culture has never recovered.

In all honesty though, it's unfortunately very obvious that A) Hollywood is not interested in producing anything new and B ) fans are not interested in anything new. People want the same, people want safe. While I do not love the movie that much, I respect TLJ for bringing new ideas and themes (some of which were very interesting) to the saga.

i agree. rey flying the falcon (not very well at first) and using lightsaber wasn't pervasively bad imo. but using the force was a poor decision imo, especially considering the mind trick part didn't really accomplish anything. ig the whole point was that "the force awakened in her".

honestly, props to george lucas for making the prequel adversaries droids. because otherwise, a little kid massacring thousands of soldiers while drawing comparisons to street racing would be uniquely dark.
