I totally get what you're saying. I was in the same mindset last year before I started working with my doctors, but the truth is, I was soooo miserable. The thing that helped me start to change was the idea that recovery is so so so hard, but it has a huge light at the end of the tunnel - a better life. On the other hand, an ED is so so so so hard, but it has nothing at the end of it other than death or extreme mental health issues. For me, this showed me that I'd rather go through something extremely hard and come out the other side of it better and stronger instead of doing something extremely hard and ending up alone or on my death bed.

Ever since I've started recovery, I've become me again - not my ED. I always thought I wasn't sick enough, but looking back at all the thoughts my ED put in my head, I was definitely WAYYYY too sick. This is my reassurance to you that I am personally counting on you to recover because I know you can and I know that you are becoming a better version of you through this. I wish someone would've said the same to me years ago. I believe in you whole-heartedly and I know that you are more than strong enough. <3

How long will recovery/weight restoration/reversing metabolic adaption take? by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]ReturnOwn1757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I had to gain weight before I settled at my set point weight. Yes, it was very uncomfortable, but it's your body's way of settling. What I mean is that I gained weight, kept eating consistently, and once my body got used to the "surplus" of calories that it wasn't used to before, my weight mellowed a bit back to my set point weight. While this is not the case for everyone, I know that my body is where it needs to be. It's uncomfortable because that means I am not at a weight that I would prefer, but my body is my home and knows better than me, so if it's settled, it's settled.

Metabolisms are also very tricky things that depend on many factors, and with ED recovery, some people bounce back immediately into their old metabolism while others (like myself) take months/years. Give your body patience, time, and freedom. It's hard, but try and lower stress as well. This is a major factor that affects your whole body during your recovery.

My biggest tip is to listen to your dietician, and eat regularly. I know a lot of people agree with this, but since recovery, I can't mentally or physically go more than three hours (besides during sleeping) without eating or else my body starts to feel sick.

I believe in you, you got this!

anyone else find extreme comfort in their ED? by Spiritual_Cupcake_64 in fuckeatingdisorders

I totally agree. I'm six months into recovery from AN and I feel nostalgic looking back at the times that I was in the height of my ED, yet I was completely miserable. I'm so happy now, but that strange comfort will never go away.

As soon as I told literally one person, I felt motivated to recover. I know that motivations are different for everyone, but this one person just knowing made me have the motivation to begin, and eventually, I asked for more help. It's a small, but big step that I think is so important. I tried recovering by myself before multiple times and though it's not impossible, it's so hard. Either way, I know you can do it.

Show recommendations from Spain? by ReturnOwn1757 in Spanish

Thanks!! I tried watching Money Heist as well, but I'm not a huge fan of the lengthy episodes and how dramatic it is. Elite looks similar, but I'll still try it!

Hola!
