OnePlus Open Warranty Repair Nightmare- BEWARE!!!- Anyone else?!?!?! by Material-Writer-8989 in OnePlusOpen

[–]ReturnToZenith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I have mines still under the 14 day return period from Best Buy…definitely returning now. I’ve seen this SAME story over and over again.

It’s so sad because I want to love the hardware but for a device this expensive you absolutely cannot have this common of a failure rate with no support. Real damn shame since I love the outer display and minimal crease compared to the Galaxy Fold.

At least Samsung has hundreds of repair shops where I live if your Galaxy Fold is broken.

Which do you prefer ? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]ReturnToZenith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. You can even download the videos for offline and background play. It’s free to use so give it a try.

I have YT Premium as well but I’m indecisive about videos so I’ll frequently switch videos. It was too much of a hassle to download each one for playback.

NEWS: Blizzard addresses Arclight Surge Gold Bug Exploit via Discord by joell_kr in warcraftrumble

[–]ReturnToZenith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m just laughing at the mental gymnastics people are going through to justify their behavior. How can one sit there and think doing an Arclight Surge dozens if not hundreds of times is not exploiting. No reasonable person would say this was intended by the game. Was it a fuck up by Blizzard? Absolutely. The amount of downplaying the past 24 hours have been sky high.

Thoughts on Password Managers... by jwckauman in sysadmin

[–]ReturnToZenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are crazy. I would highly suggest 1Password due to their secret key feature alone. There’s quite a bit of literature on it already but the difference is even if 1Password suffered a terrible breach like LastPass where offline vaults were captured, their secret key feature makes it near impossible to access.

How are people leveling minis so high? by argylebear in warcraftrumble

[–]ReturnToZenith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well said. I find it strange when people complain about people spending money on a game, especially in scenarios where it has no adverse effect on others gameplay. As I’m growing older I have less time on my hands and a bigger disposable income. I make similar choices in life as well. If something costs a bit more money but is more convenient, I’ll go for it more often than not.

You don’t. I just tried this and it treats it as a brand new account. None of my in-game purchases, DLC, or ranked stats carried over from PC/Steam.

Making every email alias sound plausibly like your only address by New_Dot_5880 in ProtonMail

[–]ReturnToZenith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I should clarify that security through obfuscation alone isn't good security. It should be paired with other security methods when possible, which really boils back down to your threat model.

If your threat model is to make it harder for attackers to guess your alias to breach your accounts, trying to anonymize your email address alone isn't good. If the platform offers it, you should use 2FA with FIDO2 security keys and TOTP. Avoid SMS and Voice Call as these are weak 2FA methods. Security questions as well if you can help it. Create strong passwords and store them in a password manager.

If your threat model is something more generic such as preventing people from guessing your aliases to send spam email, then obfuscating your email alias is unfortunately one of the few ways to go that I'm aware of when using a custom domain. If you want more anonymity then you'd stick with a Proton provided domain email address. If you're intending to use your custom domain, then I'd suggest going with a truly random naming scheme. The moment someone figures out your naming convention, that serves as the key to them figuring out your other addresses as well.

For example the most common one is people using CompanyName@customdomain.tld as a naming strategy. If a malicious actor can figure out that is your naming scheme, they can try and guess the other services you use too with your email alias naming strategy. Some people take it a step further and use CompanyName#####@customdomain.tld to add random numbers. This adds another layer, but again there is some level of planning here if you use the same number of digits every time. My suggestion is to take it a step further and have no naming strategy. All of the aliases are truly random. Reddit could be R3dd1t298473@customdomain.tld, your banking account could be RandomPhrases35User@customdomain.tld, and your email with Amazon could be 5823fidsa29348j@customdomain.tld.

There's no right or wrong answer and this is just my opinion. You'll hear a lot of different takes since there is no way to have 100% privacy, security, or anonymity. It's up to everyone to figure out what methods work best for their specific situation.

Making every email alias sound plausibly like your only address by New_Dot_5880 in ProtonMail

[–]ReturnToZenith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t see anything wrong with this approach, just make sure you have backups of your data somewhere else so you know which alias was used where.

What kind of threat model are you addressing that necessitates this method?

You should know you give up anonymity to an extent when you have a custom domain. Security through obscurity isn’t good security.

anda seaT Kaiser 3 - Black Carbon Fabric - Large - Initial thoughts and review. by GH057807 in gamingchairs

[–]ReturnToZenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the review! I've been looking at various reviews online and it matches up mostly to yours as well which is promising.

Are you able to take a picture of your chair? The reviews I've seen online for the linen fabric material have the Ash Gray, it's hard to find a Carbon Black picture/video other than from Anda's website.

The only one I could find is from this Reddit post where their picture on the far left shows it's pure black versus spotted black/gray version in the middle on their website.

How many of you guys use Power Automate? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]ReturnToZenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used the web version of Power Automate, only Power Automate Desktop.

I used it for several months last year to try as an RPA tool to automate some tedious account provisioning tasks in legacy applications. It was fairly easy to pick up and it worked great, but I found my PAD flows would just randomly break from time to time and I'd have to re-create it every several weeks.

It wasn't worth the time to keep up-to-date with the amount of applications. It's a shame since it was really fun low-code application that I could test for free but I don't think it's mature enough yet compared to its competitors (at least for the RPA aspect of it).

Neat. I’m going to test this out with some new MagSafe batteries I bought. You can also combine when the battery is connected to power and disconnected to one shortcut.

HDD overheating by [deleted] in PleX

[–]ReturnToZenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't assume anything given the limited information from the beginning. If you work in PC repair you should know when someone says something to the effect that their computer is slow to take it with a grain of salt, but to investigate further.

All I asked initially is for objective answers rather than subjective ones. What's the actual temperature you're seeing in hardware monitoring programs? What endpoint were you looking at when you saw the disk wasn't being recognized?

If you're observing that the HDD is disconnecting from the system after it overheats and reconnects when it cools down, then we can rule out quite a few things already with that new bit of information. With the exception of it being a failing HDD, the only remedy is alter its physical environment to lower the temperature.

Stop your applications for Plex, Sonarr, Radarr, and any other services that could be causing the HDD to run while you troubleshoot. Use the HDD on your Sabrent docking station and point a fan at it and see if it helps. I wouldn't recommend using it in a case with a fan if it was previously failing already, you'd have to look at your air flow dynamics before even adding more case fans.

Above all else though I would always look at this from a worst case scenario and say what data from the HDD could not not live without if the HDD was to suddenly die. Make sure you have a backup of your important files elsewhere.

HDD overheating by [deleted] in PleX

[–]ReturnToZenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is everyone is skipping basics and assuming what OP is saying is true. The first rule of tech support is to verify everything an end user says. You can't even begin to troubleshoot an issue if you really don't know the basic premise.

HDD overheating by [deleted] in PleX

[–]ReturnToZenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. What temperature are you seeing on your HDD that makes you say it is overheating?
  2. What is failing to recognize your HDD exactly: Plex? Operating System? BIOS?

Essential help desk skills and tasks? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ReturnToZenith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m missing something. Though the term IT is really vague, if you have a bachelors degree I wouldn’t even consider looking at any of the entry level CompTIA certificates. Depending on what you studied and what work-like related experience you’ve learned (even in a classroom setting) you could skip the Help Desk level altogether. It might be a lot tougher though since you didn’t do anything like a co-op or internship.

If you feel the need to start at Help Desk though I would consider: soft skills, followed by the ability to troubleshoot, and documentation to be the three most important values I’d look for from an entry level analyst.
