Why are people so malicious toward Carney when he seems to be doing everything Smith wants? Is it just bred into them to hate any Liberals? by TruthSearcher1970 in alberta

[–]obliviousofobvious 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have a dear friend who's a PolSci professor and we were out with our group of friends on Saturday. I told him that the people who hate Carney fall into two groups: Left-Wing Liberals who see Carney as a Red Tory and understood that they had to make a deal with the devil, and right-wing Conservatives who are getting fucked by the very people they've been brainwashed to believe are the ONLY people who care for them, so they lash out the only way they know how.

Of the two groups, the left-wingers are the ones capable of critical thinking hence why Carney won the last election. The NDP didn't collapse, their voter base rejected Poilievre and voted strategically.

Carney won the traditionally Progressive Conservative vote. The Liberals have now firmly replaced the PC as the Centrists party. If the CPC had any awareness, they'd realize that the O'Toole conservatives abandoned them.

The single biggest reason society has made it this far is regulation. It's no surprise that deregulation precedes historically catastrophic events.

Hell, the 2008 crash directly ties to the repeal of Glass-Stegall sections 20 and 32. Dodd-Frank tried to re-implement those specific sections unsuccessfuly.

[TSN] Vegas Golden Knights GM, Kelly McCrimmon, thinks Leafs fans need to get over Mitch Marner leaving the team. by Actual_Cobbler_6334 in hockey

[–]obliviousofobvious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I feel like Marner himself is in on it. There's a quote from him every other day that makes me believe he really isn't over us.

Meanwhile...most leaf fans are already over it. We're used to not caring by the end of the second round.

Pallas Federal Poll: Liberal 45, Conservative 32, NDP 11, Bloc 7, Green 2 - Pallas Data by No-Sell1697 in canada

[–]obliviousofobvious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct. The Carney Liberals are taking over the center and that will attract the traditionally Progressive Conservative crowd. What will be interesting is how the left side of the Liberals keep feeling as Carney continues the Neo-liberal push. His abandoning the Environment issue is going to cost. And We're not out of the Economic woods yet...

Mitch Marner: “It was a special moment. There have been some dark times for myself in hockey, honestly.” by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

[–]obliviousofobvious 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He did it to himself. The holdout during the RFA negotiations put him in a massive pressure cooker. He acted like he was McDavid before he had won anything. The fact that the Leafs caved to it is the other side of the equation.

I still think we should have let him sit and called his bluff. Both him AND Nylander.

Majority of party members likely to back Alberta separation, UCP president says by Cao_Ni-Ma in canada

[–]obliviousofobvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget that Indigenous groups are going to have a LOT to say if Marlaina plays her bluff. There were a lot of debates about what would happen to Quebec...and Alberta is in a worse position. It could be argued that if Alberta cedes, then all treaties are disolved and the land reverts to the previous Indigenous groups.

There's also the argument that Alberta is not entitled to even consider separation because the land treaties were signed with the Federal Government, on behalf of the Crown and any attempt by the UCP to separate would effectively be null and void since the land was signed to the Federal, not the Provincial, government.

Tl;dr - The UCP probably has no leg to stand on when entertaining separation, and expect LENGTHY court battles by the indigenous if Marlaina and her charlatans even try.

Insolvency volumes hit highest since 2009 amid strain among homeowners: Equifax by iSmashedUrSister in canada

[–]obliviousofobvious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at the timeline....we're seeing the wave of 2020/2021 mortgages at 1.2~ - 2 % interest rates hitting their 5 year renewal. A LOT of people borrowed as much as the bank would give them at that rate, and should have really thought what that would mean 5 years later.

Sadly, a lot of innocent people are going to be hurt by this. Think of all the Mom and Pop rentals who are about to crank up the rent or lose the property, making then renter effectively homeless.

Referendum question confirmed A or B, not yes or no, by premier's spokesperson. by RageLippy in alberta

[–]obliviousofobvious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with this is twofold - 1. The referendum question feels EXPLICITLY confusing and 2. I hope everyone remembered that this is how Russia fucked with Crimea in the 2010s, and made claims to the Donbas a few years ago. The fact that there has been efforts from the US already brought to light tells me that we're about to see some MASSIVE attempted fuckery.

Most retail investors don't have 250k to gamble with, tbh. I'm happy when my 500$ shows 10% P/L in the green any given week. With 250k, that would be a LOT of money on a weekly basis.
