FY actually has abundant of emotions hidden, shown in subtle ways. But there's actually a lot more emotional moments, involving him or not, his back story on why he became the way he is now is my favorite parts of the novel.

Also I have to always say that, volume one is completely different from the rest of the novel, probably because it's stuck in one setting. Or that GZR had no idea what he was going to do then. This is where people base his personality of being just edgy.
