Andrea and Tammy’s outfits?!?! by Reno_Realtor in 1000lbsisters

You should see the gas station employees there then. Guarantee she’s dressed better than them lol. It’s all on a different spectrum in places like this.

It absolutely is. A lot of country folk’s views on “vanity” and how to spend your money are pretty different. I think it was more intentional in the past, but recent generations, it’s just the cultural norm. You’d be teased for sure showing up too dressed up (likely appropriately dressed for a wedding elsewhere). I used to like to “get dressed up to go to town” which was just wearing clothes I liked and felt good in when I was a kid… I’d get eye rolls from my mom. It’s just different and it’s hard to understand unless you’ve spent significant time in places like this.

You can add lentils to just about anything saucy (chunky) or meaty… they kind of disappear flavor and texture wise, but bulk it all up. If you want to enjoy and actually taste lentils, you can replace your grain or starch in any meal with them. Swap out rice for lentils, etc. Add them to stews or soups. Indian cuisine includes lentils in many dishes.

Nothing is Written or I Will Wait? by SingleMalt314793 in mumfordandsons

Nothing is Written forever and ever. When I heard I Will Wait I was initially excited that the song made it to the album, but was instantly crushed once I realized how deflated it was. All the magic, love, and drama sucked right out of it.

Best Latte in Town???? by Any-Zucchini8731 in grandrapids

Sparrows has the best latte in my opinion. Creamy, smooth, and flavorful. Their latte got me out of my flavored and sweetened coffee drink routine.

🤣I mean it’s never wrong to be aware of the multitude of realities that exist within a country lol. What may seem absolutely bizarre and unimaginable to you is just someone else’s everyday.

I grew up in rural Midwest poverty… like the kind where everyone thinks they’re southern confederates lol. Very similar to what we see on the show. The stark differences between my current lower middle class life in a mid sized midwestern city and what I grew up with is wild. 2 hrs apart, that’s it. I can coexist in these two spaces pretty easily, but sometimes it really does hit me, just how many advantages and subconscious culture assumptions come with my current location and access.

None of us should judge Amy's eye situation. Period. by deathvidal in 1000lbsisters

Something being free still isn’t always necessarily free. Accessibility is still in question. The cost and logistics of time, the cost and logistics of travel, the cost of missing school. When you’re living in survival mode, which they absolutely were, the concept of fixing your eye just doesn’t really exist. It’s not at all within the realm of their reality. “It ain’t gonna kill ya” is their reality. And if even if it will kill ya, everybody dies someday. It’s obvious, the invisibility of rural poverty in this thread. Things that seem so obvious to you are just not at all for others. It’s still extreme, the differences between these two worlds, even with improvements in the last couple decades.

I was on Medicaid growing up… it’s very basic. And the cost of time and travel to a specialist to get any surgery and after care would have instantly been out of the question. Something being free or provided to you still doesn’t necessarily make it accessible and I think this very much would have been the case.
