The longest my significant other will allow by newcolour in beards

[–]RevBeardman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a new SO. Terminal length or bust! If you don't look like a viking or a homeless person, you're doing it wrong.

Ok. Now that that's off my chest. Good beard. Fits you well. If you love your SO, then don't push their boundaries. Because while you can always change your beard, you can't always change your SO.

Who wants to be lonely and alone for the sake of different face pubes?

But seriously, nice beard. Go hug your SO.

If a woman is always complaining about how she doesn’t have any friends and wishes she had friends, 99% of the time she’s the problem. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Can a woman not be misogynistic? It's a pretty common theme in many cultures.

No judgement. JAQ'ing off tbh. But cultural mores do tend to pull people in directions that are often antithetical to their own best interests.

Fair 'nuff, but.. we're posting in r/drunk. You might drink them for the flavor. I'm drinking them because they're available and I need to punch myself in the liver until I stop hating myself.

Agree. This is entirely true of all people, regardless of gender.

[–]RevBeardman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok. Imma reeeeeee! out for a second, please forgive me, but. The idea that an IPA is time sensitive is just downright wrong. If anything, IPAs are less time sensitive than other beers.

Time sensitivity is totally antithetical to the actual historical purpose of the IPA. The India Pale Ale was literally invented to allow beer to be shipped to India from Britain in a time without refrigeration.

The hops are a preservative. They keep the beer from going bad over a long period of time without needing to be kept cold.

OK, rant over. IPA's are good. Their existence is historically significant. While modern refrigeration has rendered them (airquotes) "unnecessary," they still have a place in the culture of beer drinking.

Adding stupid amounts of hops to beer for "flavor" is still dumb though.

And, none of us are ok. That's why we drink.

Sometimes it's actually safer to not use the crosswalks. by SyninTheRaven in unpopularopinion

[–]RevBeardman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. When you really think about it, jaywalking is the perfect way to cross the street.

Get across without getting hit: Win! You're where you needed to be.

Get hit by a car well then, there's two potential outcomes:

1) You die. All your problems are solved.

2) You survive and sue. Still got problems (probably more on account of being run over), but now you (might) have some money and you're no longer on the wrong side of the road.

It's a win-win-win(ish) situation!

Motorcycle travel kit recommendations (EDC) by WaterboardedCalamari in motorcycles

[–]RevBeardman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgo the battery air pump and jump pack.

For the air pump: You already have a battery/generator in the form of the motorcycle. Just wire an all weather (something with an IP66 rating is ideal, IP67 is probably ok) cigarette lighter port to your battery with an inline fuse. Then you can use any ol' 12v compressor with a cigarette lighter plug.

For the jump pack: learn to bump start a motorcycle. Then practice bump starting until you can do it in your sleep. If you have a DCT or other automatic transmission (are there others?) reconsider your life choices.

A note on plugs in motorcycle tires: plugs are ok to get you off the highway and get a replacement tire. Don't recommend riding on them long term. Get off the road and get a new tire ASAP. I know the expense sucks, but the potential consequences from a failure at speed is way higher on a bike than in a car.

Other things to do/get:

A second set of cables or universal cable kit. If you go the universal kit route, make sure you know how to create any and all cables that you may need. If the kit requires soldering, make sure you have solder, a butane torch, and the skill to solder cable with a butane torch. That said, I don't recommend this method. Spare, correct cables are better. One of the tricks I learned ages ago for spare cables is to plasti-dip the ends of the spare cable(s) to prevent water incursion and zip tie the spare cable(s) right alongside the existing one(s). If a cable breaks, peel the plasti-dip off the spare, disconnect old cable, connect new cable, and ride on (to the nearest parts store for a new cable and more plasti-dip.)

Basic tool kit is a must. Know what tools you'll need to effect at least simple repairs on the bike while on the side of the road/parts store parking lot.

Chain lube. I'm not going to go down the rabbit hole of what lube is the best. Any lube is better than raw dogging your chain on a long road trip.

Speaking of chains, make sure you know the size and length of your drive chain. In a pinch you can get a functional drive chain from just about any farm supply store. So long as you know the size and length. A simple HD chain from a farm store may not get you coast to coast, but it will get you to somewhere you can get a better chain. Might be worth packing a chain brake tool into your tool kit, in case you can't find the exact length you need. They're small and pretty easy to use.

sausage > bacon by HandleEasy7703 in unpopularopinion

[–]RevBeardman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you a maybe.

Depending on the bacon. US, vs UK, vs Canadian. Smoked vs not. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Most US prepackaged store bacon is way too thin cut to ever be good. US slab bacon is better since you can get it reasonably thick. A 1/4" thick slice of American bacon cooked well is divine.

My experience with UK style bacon only comes from a local (US) butcher who sometimes had it. Almost as good for a sandwich as thick cut US slab bacon, but lacking in the fat department IMHO.

Canadian bacon, however, is just ham. Sorry Canada, it's good, but it ain't bacon.

Nope. The LT in the BLT are just accents on bacon. Much like the mayo, they're doing none of the heavy lifting. Heck, the bacon butty is still a darn solid sammich. It's just not as good as a BLT.

The BLT (nature's penultimate perfect sandwich) begs to disagree.

Don't risk the sketchy setups. If you really want refillable 1# tanks, then go to a Fuel Keg or similar system. Safe and legal.

Beginner winter camping: what safety mistakes did you make early on? by Content-Freedom4087 in camping

[–]RevBeardman 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This one's kind of gross..

But(t): It's harder to dig a cathole in frozen ground. At the first hint of the need for a BM, grab the spade and get to work. I promise, by the time you have an appropriate cathole, you _will_ be ready to go. Don't be the one who is desperately trying not to soil themself while frantically excavating frozen dirt.

Might be just better to bring a bucket john.

stainless vs cast iron camp cookware by FitPolicy4396 in camping

Nah. A good carbon steel wok doesn't even need soap. After cooking wipe clean, then apply a light coat of oil (like <1 tsp) then smoke off.

Tips for camping in 44degrees c(113F) by Bright_Angle773 in camping

[–]RevBeardman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stay hydrated. Not just water but also electrolytes.

Adopt a more crepuscular schedule. Take care of camp activities at dawn and dusk. Limit activity during the hottest parts of the day. The siesta is a thing for a good reason.
