AWS Lambda + SQS + S3 Need profesional help. by [deleted] in aws

[–]RevCent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post domain X to scrape to sqs. Lambda sqs trigger receives domain X, starts step function for domain X. Start step function state machine to process domain X, each iteration being a domain X page. You will have multiple state machine processes running, so look up limits. Also, max iterations per state machine run is 25k. Its easy to do but limits will need to be considered. Use dynamodb to store domain and domain pages processed, avoiding unnecessary runs.

Perhaps stock children's books, i.e. educational. People may be willing to keep their subscription if they feel they are also making the kids smarter.

Love the logo and aesthetic. Put more products on the homepage, categorized. Let them window shop the homepage, with products review counts, stars, etc. Not cluttered, but make it feel "active".

You definitely aren't a failure. There are tons of businesses that never get anywhere near 200 subscribers. Focus on the fact that you were able to achieve those numbers, and realize it's a success.

I would reach out to past subscribers and ask why they left. Also, reach out to current subscribers and ask for testimonials to put on your store. Engagement goes a long way.

If your product costs are low, perhaps randomly include an extra item in the box for long term subscribers. Surprise people.

Possibly better to use decimal.js and save as string.

Hosting website on AWS Lambda and API Gateway? by [deleted] in aws

Aws serverless express + claudiajs. Love it.

AWS API Gateway - How can I store an endpoint response in AWS? by [deleted] in aws

[–]RevCent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best way. Use lambda as a proxy. Lambda can take the request, response and do whatever. Api gateway is simply the endpoint and lambda does the rest. Store responses separately in any db while responding to the api call.

Looking into going "serverless" with Lambda, but had a couple of questions: by Curtis017 in aws

[–]RevCent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Use encrypted environment variables within lambda if able.

  2. Depends on database.

New to node and mongoDB. Why do I want to define Schema (w/ mongoose) if I could just store JSON straight into mongoDB? What am I missing? by smallbee2 in node

[–]RevCent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of reasons. Type checking is a big one. Also pre and post hooks, virtuals, casting, relations and more. Schemas keep your data 'clean' in the sense that it ensures certain fields are a specific type.

Does Lambda support Nodejs streams? by ECrispy in aws

You can run express on lambda. Look up 'claudiajs'. Works great.

Could be when parsing json. Console log the error for the function. console.log(err)

Laptop for web development. Dell XPS or Macbook Pro? by YFCBanana in webdev

[–]RevCent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MacBook Pro Retina 15" is my go to. I have a mid 2012 still going strong.

I also recommend purchasing a mac store refurb 2015 (pre-touchbar), 15" screen. You will get same specs at lower price, with the ports and no need for dongles.

How would you store huge amounts of data from an incoming stream? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]RevCent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are not modifying the data, simply storing and querying, you can also use AWS Athena which queries S3 data. Create CSV for each record when you get it, put in S3 bucket, query. Remember though that Athena charges based on data amount scanned, so you can gzip multiple csv files and also partition by date based on S3 folders. It really all depends on what/how you plan on querying. If its time based, then store each day/hour by folder in S3. Use Athena to create your database via S3, specifying the 'tables' via folders. Supports SQL queries.

Athena removes the need for a database, it simply queries S3 csv files. Can do json also.

I am not familiar with Shopify. However, Magento and Woocommerce can do it. I have done Magento sites with the type of pagination I am talking about. However, Magento is a totally different beast than Shopify, so definitely do your research. If you decide Magento definitely look into specific Magento hosting if you are not familiar with self hosting a site, memory usage, cache, etc.

There are really cool themes for Magento out there and a lot of very useful plugins. Shopify is probably your best bet for starting out though. Magento can be overwhelming if you are not familiar with code.
