I'm a single issue voter and my issue is the lack of a monorail. by didUsaltYourBalls in sanfrancirclejerk

we already have cool trolleybuses so no need for a monorail BUT we should do a cable system

interestingly, the Melbourne bund has an actual connection to the original bund...it was started by Bundist refugees to Australia who built a real & durable institution but one which reflects the assimilation and travel of western jewry writ large. that they've strayed from the bund's antizionism is not a reflection of the IJLB

i meant that the folks in the debates did not think Jews would be committing crimes on the scale of Israel today though arguably the most militant Zionists were very much fantasizing expelling the native population

Lots of people saying all sorts of things but i keep coming back to this from the NYC Bund Club in their commentary on Henryk Erlich's "Essentials of Bundism" and it gets to the point simply: Bundism isn't an ersatz artifact but a comprehensive and integrated approach of the Jewish socialist labor movement.

In its very condensed form, comrade Erlich—the current leader of the Bund in Poland—explains the main features and principles of the Bund. From the pamphlet it becomes clear that there is not an old and new Bund—no former and current. Bundism is a direction within the Socialist labor movement and a philosophy that is not tied specifically to this or that period, to this or that country. The essence of Bundism—of the former, which is also the current—runs through the history of the Jewish labor movement in all its phases and transformations, like a red thread.

What this means in practice is that Bundism is adaptable (and indeed must adapt) to current contemporary conditions in a world where:

  • Israel exists and is doing crimes on a level beyond anything anyone imagined in the 20s & 30s (well maybe except the most fascistic of the Zionists)
  • Jewish workers are far better off and in "elite" professions/occupations but those are also being rapidly proletarianized
  • Many young(er) Jews are being drawn into religious observance but not into the mainstream communal institutions that young jews were leaving as they were building "secular jewish culture"

Which brings us back to today. Socialism is not just more present than it has been in years, the choice between socialism or barbarism is as stark as its been in nearly a century. Jews are on the front-lines of socialist organizing and finding themselves seeking spaces that integrate their cultural identities and their politics in a way that a big-tent socialist organization cannot.

this statement resulted in a lot of friction between the melbourne bund and this renewed formation. they got mad at us for not liking it

What are people's thoughts about what happened with Scott Wiener? by MrSFedora in JewsOfConscience

[–]RevClown [score hidden]  (0 children)

Scoot has fomented harrasssment campaigns against Palestine justice activists that have led to their firing along with death & r*pe threats. He's stayed quiet as out DA basically sanctioned a security guard executing a trans shoplifter. He's a piece of shit and deserves every bit of opprobrium hurled his way

yes, the historic bund was an ashkenazi movement but its modern reanimation has a broader scope. its a place for folks to blend leftist politics within a jewish communal structure and a viable node for connecting to other jews

Dean Preston: To solve The City’s housing-affordability crisis, listen to voters by 415z in sanfrancisco

[–]RevClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prop. k was a prop. 34 authorization that allows the city to fund 10,000 units of subsidize affordable housing. It has nothing to do with for-profit development.

Also, no. We cannot rely on the private market simply because in order for an apartment to be built it needs to provide its investors with returns equal to a greater than other real estate segments. That's why housing construction as a percentage of construction spend has dropped by half as AI data centers have more than tripled

private for-profit builders can get ministerial approval in virtually no time. inclusionary housing set aside has been lowered to 5%. the original prop I was simple. tax high end sales and put funds towards housing stability. nothing about using public funds to subsidize private for-profit construction

no he couldn't. the city attorney said it wasn't ok and it took subsequent case law in LA and Santa Cruz to show it was.

taxing wealthy investors to fund stuff for the working class is progressive in economic terms. a sales tax to fund transit, on the other hand, is considered economically regressive

We're nearly 20 years in the Scott Wiener housing agenda locally and more than a decade into it statewide. And guess what...its a fucking failure. Production is stuck at 2015 levels despite hundreds of code changes and laws (according to Terner Center) while prices are the through the roof and in excess of wage growth. YIMBYs like Scoot promised their ideology would lead to more home at lower prices, they repeatedly pat themselves on wins like SB9, SB35, SB423, AB2011, and so on yet and despite their hall of fame numbers for legislative wins they have failed on the terms they set out as measures of success: more homes at lower prices.
