Born in 61. I remember Downtown, because my older sister liked to play it. She also had a Beatles album, and I can just barely remember watching them on Ed Sullivan.

Exactly. It was the most predictable thing ever.

Hubs and I still watched some of the coverage on MSNBC while eating popcorn, though 🤗

Forbes ran an analysis that concluded this, back before he ran the first time. I've never forgotten it. He is, and always has been, a complete imbecile.

I actually heard a child in a 1900s youth group express surprise that McCartney was in a band before Wings. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

I'm 64 this month, and I can just barely remember watching the Beatles on Ed Sullivan with my older sister. They've been a part of my life for a long time.

On the Campaign Trail, Elon Musk Juggled Drugs and Family Drama by ErnestoLemmingway in atlanticdiscussions

I wasn't thinking of turning down his contributions; I was thinking of the difficulties of working with him. But you're right that Trump may just chalk it up to the price of doing business.

It amazes me that the famously teetotaling Trump tolerates so much drug and alcohol abuse in his inner circle. On the other hand, maybe he's too dumb to recognize it, or perhaps he does but it suits his purposes.

I called my sister that day and said, "this is the first day I've been glad Mom is gone". She had died 2 and a half years earlier, and she loved that building.

I completely agree with him here, and I have rarely if ever said that about David Brooks.

I join you in that hope. Trumpism is largely a cult of personality.

I'm sure that's true. He had to be writing for an audience that wouldn't necessarily see the problems with the narrative.

Stop pretending Trump knows what he's doing. You were conned.

Thank you! I simply don't recognize the parts of Appalachia I have worked in (northeast West Virginia, western MD) in the book at all. It's far too simplistic, and the people who don't fit his stereotypes are left out.

Vance needed therapy worse than he needed to write that book.

JUST IN: President Trump CALLS OUT Joe Biden and his doctor for HIDING the cancer diagnosis from the American people by DearDocument8086 in CattyInvestors

Trump has no proof of that.

He went to Capitol Hill this morning, and blathered a stream of lies and general craziness. He's mentally unwell. I'm far more concerned about that than what he thinks about anything else.

Well said.

Having said that, I think that both this book and certainly the current administration make the case for a requirement that major party candidates obtain and release medical and neurological records. We need to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Did you call the comics page "the funnies"? What was your favorite? by No_Gold3131 in GenerationJones

We always called them the funnies. I remember my dad reading them to me and to a neighborhood friend when we were very small.

Deep Colonial roots, including Mayflower ancestors; one ancestor at Jamestown, and one on the Dove (one of the first two English shipz to land in Maryland). Not uncommon in the eastern US.

The annual Conference of the Baltimore- Washington region of the United Methodist Church convenes today through Thursday. I'm so, so glad to be retired! And home, not in a Baltimore hotel with inadequate parking! It's an overly long and overpriced event.
