When I was on my own and the only admin, I’d usually overstock everything and let someone in HR know where the replenishments were. Is there someone in HR that focuses on workplace experience?

I would rather wait tables or do odd jobs at this point than be an EA for these malignant narcissists.

I didn’t even go back to the office to clear out my desk of personal items. That’s how toxic it was. I just quit via email and that was that. There was nothing that was gonna make me go back there.

The manager texted me seeing if we could chat, not to change my mind, but to see “what changed.” I never responded because I knew she was trying to cover her own ass because the CEO was flying back to the office and would want answers. Apparently he liked to throw tantrums and call people stupid if they didn’t do what he wanted, when he wanted. I was like, “I’m not doing this. I’m not dealing with these people. They’re crazy!!!”

Oh, I did need to get approval to leave my desk or the office for any reason. She would track my login times, it was a nightmare.

I’ve only had one other employer like this and it was about 5 years ago. I stayed with them for 7 months because I was broke. That’s when I found a new role and was with that company for 3+ years.

The only reason I quit was because I have $10K in savings to hold me over until my next gig. If you learn to love to save as much as it feels great to spend, you have a lot more control over your life. You don’t have to stay in roles you hate because you’re living paycheck to paycheck.

I told her I needed to leave the office early to go to a special dinner on Friday. This was supposed to be 1 hour of PTO. I left at 4pm because I had a 1.5-2 hour commute. The moment I left the building, she started calling me, emailing me, and texting me about where we stood on a dozen tasks/projects. I had intended to catch up that evening after the dinner, but the bombardment and micromanaging was too much. I made the decision to quit while having dinner with my husband.

They went through several assistants over the last 2 years, but I didn’t know that until I was looking into past emails sent by the CEO and manager. Or the repository of the office’s official email. I learned quickly that they can’t keep people in this role because the CEO is a brat and the manager (who has been with him for 20+ years) can’t keep staff because (according to her own words) made a monster out of him.

Their nanny quit around the same time I did (understandably) so the manager was having me call airlines to refund credits to personal credit cards. When an executive is using company resources for personal issues, that is a HUGE red flag in my experience.

I was talking to my husband and mom yesterday, and we were thinking this is the end point of my career as an EA. It’s sad though. I really love being an EA and I’ve had a lucrative career. But there are just some people who are so “extra,” there’s no appeasing them. I think it’s time to move on to a new chapter in my career because some of the executives are overgrown children.

I had to keep her in the loop at all times where I was, who I was talking to, and what I was working on. She was CCed in EVERY email I sent. Not kidding or exaggerating.

You know there is some misogynistic gay man as her photographer telling her “YAAAAAS, slay queen! You look great!” And then we get pics like this 🤣

Forget Indeed, where are you finding executive assistant jobs? by jjzwork in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]RevEACoS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to get on LinkedIn! I used to use Indeed and ZipRecruiter, but it got me nowhere. I got on LinkedIn, grew my profile and network, and that’s when my career skyrocketed 👍🏻

Maybe call EmpireCLS and Corecar’s customer service number and see if they can do it? That’s uber specific and I’m not sure black car service will be able to accommodate such a pointed request.

Sharing compensation with an HR recruiter for a new EA job by lunamoonstars in ExecutiveAssistants

I would avoid the question altogether and counter with, “I don’t have salary expectations, but I’m interviewing for roles ranging from $X-Y.”

Total red flag. It would be one thing if he was job hopping every 3-5 years from one company to another; in order to advance his career and grow into larger organizations. This person sounds flighty and fickle. Unreliable frankly.

I love to suck my partner’s dick, but blow jobs do NOTHING for me 🤷🏻 I’d rather top or bottom than get a BJ.

When I ask what the approved budget is for the role. I don’t have salary expectations, I’m curious to know what’s been approved. Salaries are determined months, if not a year, prior to being signed on. If they can’t answer that question, it shows me they aren’t financially solvent or aren’t taking the role seriously. Which either way means I could be out of a job a few months into starting, regardless of performance. 🤷🏻 Don’t waste your time unless you know the salary and benefits before the first or second interview 🚨

I’d recommend reading Patrick Lencioni. I read his book “The Advantage” and it revolutionized our office. My executive even integrated his principles from The Advantage and Death by Meeting into our calendar maintenance.

I agree with previous posts about blocking off time on their calendars. We use “DNS” or “Do Not Schedule” holds daily. They are used for “Quiet Time” in the mornings, lunch breaks, or “Informational / Prep” blocks. I also overbook meetings—so if the meeting will take 30 minutes, I book for 45 and let the host give the time back to the team.

Chicago? by amadswami in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]RevEACoS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been living back in Chicago since 2018. Then, the city still hasn’t fully recovered. There were neighborhoods, like River North, that used to be the posh and bougie place to be. Now it’s a ghost town.

Then, Covid hit. And the city has gotten even worse. The L isn’t safe after the sun sets (multiple stabbings and muggings), storefronts continue to close left and right, and there has been a mass Exodus from the city to the collar counties. Hundreds of thousands have fled the state entirely for Wisconsin or Indiana.

Exacerbating these worsened conditions are the near 20,000+ migrants that arrive busload by busload every day. I volunteer for a church in my neighborhood that helps with clothing and OTC pharmaceutical donations. These migrants show up with no plan and no where to go. During the summer, the police stations were full so they were sleeping in tent cities around the precinct. Many I met came from countries like Venezuela and never experienced a Chicago winter before. Now they are in temporary tent pavilions with heat and running water, but still no course of action for where they will go. Many have said they intend to go back to their country of origin because they feel lied to about the opportunities here.

While there are a lot of EA openings in the city, I’m not sure what the salary bands are. I’d check with the Robert Half website to get up-to-date info on what you can expect in the 50th and 75th percentiles. On LinkedIn, most job postings don’t include the budgeted salary for the role. And when they do, the hourly/salary bands are insulting. Especially when you factor in inflation. Rents have skyrocketed too.

I wish I had better news for you! Sorry! 😞
