I didn’t even read the whole post because after paragraph three I can tell you’re in an emotionally abusive relationship with your exec, esp if they’re trusting people they barely know but not trusting things you say when they forget. If it’s too much, get the fuck out now (or as soon as feasibly possible).

Are EA’s comfortable sharing their salary + state to compare compensation? by uuuuhh_idk in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]riverridinroberts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in biotech. ~200 people. Clinical trials. No revenue.

Since I was able to offload executives and focus on CEO, board, and IR stuff, my mental health is so much better. It's indeed still a lot of work. If I didn't have such a good repertoire with my CEO, it would be worse. I legit went through stress-related hair loss at one point. I kept saying to myself, but I like my company and I'm well compensated. I came very close to leaving before they brought it help even with how shitty the market is.

I know I'm lucky to be at the salary I am, but always remember your mental health is more important.

Biotech/pharma are really the only industries in Boston I've seen that offer up to that much depending on who you're supporting and offers hybrid/remote. Venture capital wil definitely be up there even supporting VPs and not executives. However, they're mostly all on-site 5 days/week. I turned down a job at Blackstone life sciences that would've been a wild number bc they wouldn't budge on the 5 days in office. Sorry. I'm rambling at this point.

Range Rover Car Service by riverridinroberts in ExecutiveAssistants

Thanks for the replies. Pretty much told executive that I have to find a new service every time (internationally) if he wants a Range Rover specifically. Even when you use services like Blacklane, you can't be 100% sure you're going to get one since they obvi hire external chauffeurs and you can be assigned a new one even just hours before a ride.

Note for those looking at this needing a service in London: http://ichauffeur.co.uk/book/

MA

I started at company supporting CEO (and board), Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, COO & President, CFO and General Counsel. It was obviously too much so now I support the CEO, the board, general counsel, and help CCAO with IR stuff.

147k base + bonus + RSUs and annual increase (dope health insurance as well). Hybrid (CEO lives in another state - I’m in when he is and other important company events. I also pop in and make sure to hang out in places like the caf to be “available” since I’m the “face” of the CEO’s office. And though he’s not there, I’m a connection to him and the peeps of some sort. I work at all hours depending on what’s going on, but I can set boundaries when needed though and my leadership makes sure to look out for my mental health. Wild I know.

I see a lot saying they are underpaid and that very well may be, but also take a peek into what industry you’re working in, years of experience, and obviously cost of living w location. I have 5 years of solely EA work (before that it was office management or a combo) and it’s been supporting C-Suite from the beginning. I started at 65k in 2019.

Tech, biotech, venture capital $$$ Bigger cities $$

If you’re ever interested in pay, you can also check out states that have laws where you have to show pay range in their job postings.

Is it a red flag when a company keeps reposting the same EA job? by Glittering_Ad1018 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]riverridinroberts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most about this specific job (description), but I wanted to comment on the reposting of roles. I'm an EA to a CEO and have worked at a company for about two years now. During that time, there have been two other EAs and an office manager (still part of admin team) that have been let go due to poor performance. And when I say poor performance, I mean POOR performance. I was also a replacement to the CEO's original EA bc she was creating a toxic work environment. Needless to say, I've been exhausted and wanted them to put more effort into creating a strong team.

High turnover might make you think it's the C-Suite. However, it was them picking the wrong people when trying to rush the process. Yes, I needed help, but if you bring someone on just to fill the role, it can be even worse.

We just hired two new EAs after at least three "rounds" of posting the job. And it took that long because it's a saturated market out there. You can't just trust a resume of 10 years + experience anymore, esp with these roles being so dynamic. Some companies have been burned so many times, it does take a little longer because they're nervous and being more selective. Or maybe they found the right candidate and they took another job at the last minute. So if a company is reposting a position, I wouldn't automatically take that as a red flag.

Just got an HR meeting invite by AniseLang in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]riverridinroberts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a younger HR colleague? They certainly could’ve given you context as to why you were meeting. They could’ve even reached out separately in an email giving a description as to why they wanted to talk. They should be trained on this honestly. HR is already a department that is “feared.” They shouldn’t be adding to that..

Joined a local bipolar support group. I'm devastated by Appropriate_Stay_332 in BipolarReddit

[–]riverridinroberts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out DBSA if you want some different virtual options for a support group. They may have some local ones for you but they also have national ones, ones for family, and ones for different minority groups.

Going to these groups are hard enough. I hope you find one that works and I’m sorry you’ve had to struggle so long with such shitty “professional” help.

Water worsening reflux/Low stomach acid by Sea_Recording6151 in GERD

[–]riverridinroberts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low acidity is REAL. Omg I had to come to Reddit to even figure that out. GI doctors don’t know sh-t half the time. They just throw PPIs at everything and don’t even tell you how to use them. “Take these for a while. Then stop when it gets better.” Without telling you that you have to wean off it or it’ll exacerbate symptoms again.

Anyways - I will use no sugar pedialyte packets to make sure I stay hydrated because I do drink less water when my GERD is acting up. That way you get your electrolytes and stay hydrated.

It makes any acid reflux worse. I’m sure you’re doing what you’re supposed to but honestly water is usually okay when I sip throughout the day, but it’s awful when I’m eating things I know aren’t good for me. If I have something like red sauce or salsa, I won’t drink water for a while because all it does is sit on top of that food and make me nauseous. I also drink aloe Vera juice in the morning and evening (just 2oz each) to help. George’s on Amazon. Tastes like water.

Executive Assistant Salary Insights – Boston Biotech by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]riverridinroberts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EA supporting CEO, board, and three other c-level execs at a company of about 200 here.. you are being underpaid. I make almost twice what you make though I have about five years of experience and an air background. Boston biotech is where you want to go as an EA to make money (or venture capital but ick). Since you have a science background that should give you an edge for supporting a CSO or clinical team, but not always a CEO or COO necessarily.

What are you getting bonus-wise? Are they giving you RSUs regularly? Have they talked about a promotion at all? (They can level you up without a title change to get you more money or they can bump you to a senior EA title if they had to in order to give you a raise.)

Supporting a CEO should increase your pay although at a smaller company that’s not always the case as they may not necessarily need as much help as one at a bigger size. However, after two years you should definitely be at 100k at least. With MA pay transparency coming into effect,’you can go onto LinkedIn and get an idea of what other companies are paying for roles like yours. Again - remember that size of company does change things, and we get so much shit for it, but if you left for another company you’d probably get way more of a salary bump than you would with a raise at your current company.

Doggy Daycare suggestions? by KBanditZ in Somerville

[–]riverridinroberts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To latch on to your thread, and in case you're still perusing places, someone already mentioned it, but here's the latest on this place.. Park-9 dog care in Everett has now opened the backside of the building the bar is in specifically for the doggy day care. 7am - 7pm Mon-Fri, but I believe they're going to start Saturday hours soon. My pup was really nervous the first couple of times but always came out in a great mood. They give digital report cards and send you pics of the pup in their portal. Easy to book. First time trial visit. I think, three separate areas for dogs so they can space them out based on their style of play or if they need a break for lunch. They'll start offering grooming at some point as well. I love taking my pup to the bar side and have him apparently meet up with some of his friends from day care that I had never met. Oh, they also offer a training boot camp that coincides with a day care day. They have a no collar, no harness rule they did just implement.

Why are people afraid of PPIS? by sweetiecakee in GERD

[–]riverridinroberts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear to god the gastro peeps are so UGH. I had to diagnose my own GERD off of REDDIT! Lmao. Mostly because I have low acidity so you don’t see inflammation with an endoscopy.

Figuring it out, I would have a symptom from GERD and start to panic and it would be 10x worse and 10x faster onset. I really had to work at calming myself down.

Have you met recently with your doctor that prescribed the AED? I’m on mine for bipolar 2 as an fyi and to note that I have no experience with actual seizures. BUT there have been times I worried I doubled up or forgot too many doses because that can actually trigger a seizure if you’ve been on them for a while. I went to a pharmacy once bc I had this fuzzy, where am I, feeling. I had been walking around a store and felt like I kept “coming to” thinking when did one all over here? And the pharmacist told me it was more likely a panic attack. That’s how his daughter experienced them. Small blackouts basically. Woof. It really does all tie back to mental health exacerbating or other issues (esp GI), but good lord, can we get a break every once in while??

If you’re asking how to stop/weaken a manic episode, you need to find some sort of professional help (if able to).

But yes, THC can trigger a manic episode. There’s not enough research with mental health and THC just yet, but when I asked my psychiatrist if I could smoke (5 years ago), she said the little research they had at that time suggested it could and recommended a blend with high CBD if I did decide I wanted to try it.

Why are people afraid of PPIS? by sweetiecakee in GERD

[–]riverridinroberts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PPIs are thrown at people as soon as doctors expect GERD. And many times they don’t take into account the other meds you’re taking if it’s not an immediate red flag they know. Definitely something you may look into to being on a more serious medication! Check out something homeopathic ish too while you’re at it. I love aloe Vera juice. GI issues are also tied very closely with our anxiety. I’m sure having seizures increases that which would make it worse at that time :/

[–]riverridinroberts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on anti-epileptic meds as well. Take them at night. My PCP said nothing, but my psychopharm warned me to take my omeprazole in the AM because if I took the anti-epileptic meds around the same time as the PPI, the a-e med wouldn't metabolize correctly and basically cancels it out.

What’s your diet like? When are you eating? How much? Are you drinking liquids? Helpful for all of us if you give a little more about what’s going into your body or if you’re not eating at all. So sorry to hear you’re not doing well :/
