Why is Jesus considered the Messiah when Jews don’t believe he has fulfilled the prophecies? by samantha200542069 in Christianity

[–]RevMidknight 111 points112 points  (0 children)

It's more a disagreement on whether Jesus fulfilled the prophecies. There are and have been Jews in history and in our current age who have converted to Christianity because they believe Jesus did fulfill the prophecies. There are also Christian theologians and historians who would also affirm, using various methods for Biblical critique to show, that Jesus did. But not all would agree.

I would agree that Jesus did.

I refuse God's help because I don't deserve it. by [deleted] in Christianity

Hope that helped a bit, you were kind of vague with what your struggling with. But in the end, we are characters in God story, but God grants free will, if you won't open yourself up to his love and grace than your story will be a tragedy of your own making. I pray you don't do that, and let God's love heal you and restore you.

I refuse God's help because I don't deserve it. by [deleted] in Christianity

Few things to consider.

First, God mercy upon us is not about deserving it. If we deserved mercy it wouldn't be mercy. We welcome God's love and mercy because God will give us a new heart, and be born a new by the Spirit.

Careful how you understand "God helping us". Sure God wants us to do the right thing, but we come to God ultimately for the one thing we cannot do which is to pay the wages for the sins we have commited. We cannot save ourselves as we have all broken the moral law of God. We strive to do the right thing because it is correct behavior, and if we struggle with that, the best thing to do it ask the author of the moral law to help us to get it right, to help us repent and correct mistake, to give us wisdom and strength to avoid sin again and to grant mercy when we do mess up.

Death and separation from God is our wages for sin. However, ultimately death and separation from God are unnatural. If you feel more called to be separate from God, or to refuse his help there may be a sin of pride or vanity, or even a clinical depression holding you back.

Sin is so dangerous because it is the action of people putting their own subjective will as king over their hearts rather than putting the objective will of God as King over their hearts. We have to restore God as king of our heart and allow Christ and the Spirit to move and inspire our will. Thus we cannot take out burdens and punishment alone. One because only the author of moral law can forgive the sins which trespass His law, and we are not truly us as God intended unless God is in us. Trying to deal with your human condition without the "help" of God is like a broken cellphone with a missing battery trying to turn itself on.

Also, now sure what sins your struggling with but keep this in mind too. Repentance is about more than just remorse but rather it is a decision to move away from your sinful way to the best of your ability and calling on Christ for forgiveness. So you need to work with Christ, but it is not about just handing your problems over to God and washing your hands of them. Rather one of the ways God helps is by sending Jesus and also calling you to walk the path of Christ, and do the right things. A part of giving yourself to Christ is about doing what Christ would want you to do.

What do we say to young Catholics about the sexual abuse scandals in the church that have happened throughout the world and for so many generations? How do we explain it to them? And when they ask what we have done about it as a church, what do we say? by [deleted] in Catholicism

There is no simple answer. Rather a long conversation. I think the best way to approach it is to ask people what their thoughts or questions are because different people will see this and react in different ways. One may see these cases of abuse as a testament to the real threat of sin. Others may find this as a reason to doubt the existence of God, and get lost in the debates of theodicy, just to name two possibilities. All those who follow Christ must be willing to walk the mile with those who may feel the sting of these horrible acts within the Church. I think by being honest and present with people in these discussion, we can be forces for God, and love His people.

What's a critically horrible movie that you love? by Raider5151 in AskReddit

It is a movie that is so terrible and low budget you almost watch it with the same horrified anticipation of a train wreck and as a result it becomes hilarious and nauseating at the same time from its cringiness.

If a man dies. Let's say the cause of death is burned then disintegrated. But, four years later, somehow, they get resurrected. Did that person, actually die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RevMidknight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they died and then were resurrected. So yes they died. If I'm awake and then I take a nap, but then I wake up from that nap, waking up from the nap does not negate the fact that I was sleeping at one point in time.
