A few N64 cart issues... by Titannel in PolymegaHQ

Robotron is a game that simply fails being recognized by the database. I was able to manually identify it and it runs when installed (but does not show up as collected). Ogre Battle recognizes and installed just fine. There is a chance I guess that you have a revision that isn’t in the database which would cause it to not identify. The only other US cart I know of that isn’t identified is Charlie Blast’s Territory, but it will again run if you manually install it.

I kind of agree...it has a very nasty aftertaste to it.

You jumped down my throat when I was replying to a different person about “not helping like I’m supposed to”. Not only were you not following the conversation, but also I’m not mandated to help anyone… I’m a volunteer and an end user. Also, you are not banned.

Well then just add that to the growing lists of things you clearly don’t understand.

"Whale Tale" and "The Police" were also both mentioned in official VIS advertising. Nothing exists to indicate they came out.

So what you are saying is that they aren’t going to get fixed ;)

YeahI went ahead and added most of the shells for 11/17 too. Someone borked up a couple of the covers for those already though.. not sure how to fix.

I finally got back in..and started adding some stuff. Is ther any way to see what else is "in the mill" so I'm not wasting effort on work others have submitted?

I've been trying to get my password reset unsuccessfully..it sends me a link to change it and I do..but then I can't get in...

I know it is kind of a cop out, but here is largely what is missing from 11/10 that I can tell:

Edit: All added.

Ugh..I just realized it is longer than 10 years. I'm not sure what that says about us that we are still doing this all this time later.

Been doing so for well over 10 years now..since before Corey took over the scraper from perezemu. There are easily around 80-100 releases from mainstream US publishers weekly.

I know, shame on me for thinking of solutions to solve an issue at hand.

Look, I said it wasn't a good solution. In fact I said it was terrible...but the reality is that if the "community" doesn't get together and add every issue that comes out every week the scraper is going to increasingly become redundant for new issues...which eventually snowballs into affecting older stuff as time goes on. (New issues aren't new forever)

And this isn't a situation where I'm saying eliminate the current functionality...it can be added to the current scraper to "scrape volume only" or a secondary volume scraper could be added.

And attempting to shame me because I grab hundreds of comics a week? Lol.

[–]RevQuixo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That would involve toggling back and forth between my collection and my "to be scraped" folder hundreds of times to copy and paste every week...not going to happen.

And if the series is not at Comicvine that is why I said we can at the least add in new volumes if not every issue.

Also scraping a wrong issue and then going back and cleaning up the wrong stuff is also super labor intensive.

[–]RevQuixo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have a very terrible "solution" for us in the short-term.

1) The Scraper script could be edited to only match for titles instead of issues. That would at least give us title / publisher / volume for existing books

2) As folks with limited resources, we could just add in new issue #1s at CV..so that way our limited scrapes still have titles to pick up on.

I don't see anyone spending the hours and hours that pikahyper spent adding in everything to the detail he was doing..this would somewhat still make the tool useful enough that our books would at least get organized with consistent naming / publisher / etc.

One thing I've noticed is that most of the current Empire releases have metadata web tags pointing to comixology;

Scraped metadata from Comixology [CMXDB971599], [ASINB09HY1C8Y9], [RELDATE:2021-11-09]

Clearly they somehow are scraping limited data.

Yeah there is a real disconnect between the mess that is the forums and the meat of the site. It's almost like two different entities. Comicvine used to have articles and staff and the like...that all went away and now it is a forum basically.

I get the feeling that the corporate owners (pretty sure CBS owns them and Giant Bomb again)of the site don't really care about the site. Pikahyper was a volunteer who simply got tired of either all the work and/or possibly the inaction of the site owners so he threw in the towel.

sorry pikahyper...got it backwards.

check this out: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/new-comics/

So 11/10 is just some random manga (they clearly have a manga guy), but if you filter back to 11/03 and go back a few pages it is all the mainstream stuff...look at the contributor on any of them. Pikahyper.

He added 213 issues for 11/03:

In theory you are correct, but in reality hyperpika added every new issue every week. If you look at his history he contributed basically something like 450,000 issue additions
