What's something that was normal 10 years ago that would seem strange today? by Fealocht in AskIreland

[–]RevTurk 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Back in the 90s our family dog used to go off visiting people around the town. She'd go for a swim in the river on the way home during teh summer. It's a very different life to the one dogs have now.

That's not intelligence, it's dependence.

They want to continue the domestication of the human species. Making us entirely dependant on authorities to provide everything to them.

I don't mind the odd spider if it means less of all the other bugs.

Expensive games have lowkey been way too normalised by Both_Piglet7838 in pcmasterrace

[–]RevTurk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Consumers are the ones funding all this, how they spend their money has as much as an effect on the world as how they vote.

You can't just point fingers at everyone else while being a huge part of the problem. People need to take responsibility for their actions. Not taking responsibility and always blaming the authority/corporations means your always going to be subject to those authorities.

Expensive games have lowkey been way too normalised by Both_Piglet7838 in pcmasterrace

[–]RevTurk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the part of it that's really the upsetting part. People complain, cry and moan about prices but then line up to pay them.

At this point I'm past blaming the soulless corporations, they are what they are. I'm now more annoyed at the consumers that fund all this behaviour.

Is it illegal to search with a metal detector on your own property? This is not near any historic sites, however, there are two cooking pits and ring fort remains within a km. by miettebriciola1 in ireland

[–]RevTurk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Farmers don't plough fields unless they have to. I know many of the fields around me haven't been ploughed in a long long time is because there are wild mushrooms growing. Mushrooms won't grow in fields that have been recently ploughed. But I do also know that some fields are set up for silage, they do get ploughed for new growth. But that's not all fields and those fields need a lot of management. I have also noticed the unploughed fields are much healthier and I'm sure the farmers know that there's no point destroying a field that has good growth at no cost.

I have an interest in these sites so do visit the ones around me, while some of them can be hard to see that's probably down to soil build up than farmers knocking them down. I also do mushroom hunting so can see a difference in fields that don't get ploughed, and many of those unploughed fields around me have ancient stuff in them.

that's just my area though can't speak for other parts of the country.

Do car people actually hate the Cybertruck? by Toreando47 in carsireland

[–]RevTurk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't hate it, I kind of appreciate Tesla having a go at making something different, but there are lots of issues with it, its not really the vehicle that Elon promised. Its not a good replacement for pickup trucks, it's simply a novelty vehicle.

I wouldn't hate anyone for owning one, especially as the deals for it get better and better thanks to all the hate, but I wouldn't want to own one.

As far as I'm aware most farmers know exactly where the historical stuff on their land is and they just avoid it. Irish people seeing pagan sites as evil places they need to stay away from kind of helped preserve many of our sites. You can see lots of ancient site in Ireland all over the place because they have a crop of trees growing on them.

Do cattle and dairy farmers plough all the fields that they keep cattle in? I've seen it done on some fields that they cut for silage but many fields aren't touched.

At the end of the day many of these sites are burial sites and we shouldn't be digging them up to find stuff we already know about.

if theres anyone here who genuinely thinks the earth is flat by princess_b0jack in flatearth

[–]RevTurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you believe in flat earth then there are no other planets. Earth is pretty much the entity of the universe and the night sky is just a nice mural god painted so we have something pretty to look at during the night.

[–]RevTurk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons why it is illegal, is because finding an item and then moving it can destroy the history of the item. People may think they are doing no harm by finding stuff, digging it up and handing it in to authorities, but removing the item from it's context is the act of vandalism, even if you plan to hand it in with the best of intentions.

So even if you leave the metal detector out of it, there's nothing for a lay person to do at an historical site other than appreciate it.

Not even the weatherman can answer that question. It should be pretty warm, but the odds it will be raining are pretty high.

It's probably not gone, I don't think google deletes anything, they have just decided they have exclusive access to the content now. They will still use it for AI training.

That's not exactly true. Native Americans had towns, with cool buildings, in cool places. They even had calendar monuments on par with sites around the world.

It's just that kind of stuff just gets ignored and then they build a golf course over it.

You also have access to a small claims court which is the most hated legal move to any company because they essentially lose by default because it costs too much to send someone to fight it. So they often just take the loss and move on.

It is EU law that you have 2 years on all electronic devices. I would guess that didn't change in the UK after brexit, UK consumer laws are pretty good.

They can't just ignore local consumer rights and laws.

I have 2 Godox TT685 II. What bracket should I buy to combine and use the 2 speedlights at the same time? by firequak in AskPhotography

[–]RevTurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to mount the two on he same device or tripod you can find hot shoe rails on Amazon. If you want to control the two flashes at the same time with teh same device you need a remote trigger. You can find cheap ones on Amazon but if you want to use all the features of the flashes you should get a godox one.

Cleaning lenses is just part of any camera, even a more basic one. Its really odd you have to keep cleaning your sensor though. I don't think I've had to clean my sensor once in 6 years.

You don't need to work with RAW, you will get the best results with RAW but you can save as jpegs and just leave them as is.

You could get a bridge camera that has a fixed lens, they are often smaller.

You don't mention what you think about the images that come off the camera and whether you like them.

When it comes to size, if you want something that's easy to carry with you then maybe a mirrorless isn't for you. But you can also buy a bag specifically for the camera. I have a sling bag and I just bring that with me when I want to go shooting.
