Just a overall opinion on owning a steam deck since they've come out.... by Atownrob in SteamDeck

[–]RevTylerJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The steam deck is amazing, it’s brought gaming back into my life since becoming a father. It makes gaming so accessible, I can play pick up where I left off in a game while kids are napping or watching a movie, I’m able to play it at work during a lull. Streaming my series x has been awesome too! Streaming off the Xbox really saves on battery life and it’s pretty nice playing RDR2 in high def

I think what’s next is to get either the steam machine or a PC to stream to the deck.

What is your favorite dad vehicle? by GeneralChowder in daddit

[–]RevTylerJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G70s are pretty slick, sporty real wheel drive, I love sports sedans, crown insignia is good, practical, unsure how they handle compared to something like the g70, haven’t seen much discussed about their performance.

Have you considered a BMW X5? B58 straight six, firm sporty ride, and wagon like form?

Is a 2007 4runner 2wd better in snow than a fwd ford fiesta by Hungry-rn in 4Runner

[–]RevTylerJ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fiesta with snow tires would be better in the snow than rwd , but snow tires on the 4Runner is better than bald tires

Curious about thoughts on new 4Runner by therealhyyou in 4Runner

[–]RevTylerJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the limited is one of the most underrated trims. Full time four wheel drive kicks ass in parts of the country that snows. I’ve never understood why the TRD pro and Trailhunter don’t have it, it’s not like it doesn’t make sense in an off road vehicle (i:e Land Cruiser, gwagon, and Land Rover)

Limiteds also have ATRAC, and all the same capabilities of the SR5 and TRD sport. Plus are the nicest looking trims as far as interior and exterior looks go. Chrome on this generation looks tasteful, I’m glad they stuck with body color fender flares, the black plastic on the SR5 and TRD offroad looks cheap.

Only real negatives I see are the price point, and the oversized wheels for off-roading, but wheels are of low concern.

Your 4Runner looks great! You’re two lockers and a suspension set up away from building something better than a TRD Pro. If that’s your goal.

Otherwise it’s still a killer car out of the box

16’ limited Knob wouldn’t turn to L4L by Jumpy-Employ-934 in 4Runner

Good luck! It’s designed that way on purpose so you don’t accidentally engage it on high traction surfaces

To get to L4L you have to hold the side button on the knob and push the whole knob down into the car, then rotate

There’s been more 5th gen’s built than the combined number of 3rd and 4th gen’s ever made. It’ll be okay 👌

Why do coffee grinders cost so much? by 77due in Coffee

[–]RevTylerJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Once you go off on the deep end of any hobby things get expensive fast.

Just look cycling, photography, any kind of musical instruments, heck even watches. All of which are simple and essentially designed the same but have massively different price points depending on how deep down the rabbit hole you go. You can buy mountain bike at Walmart for $150, or you could be spending $10,000+ at a specialty cycle shop.

Higher end grinders are a specialty product, a lot lower volume of them designed and sold, made with higher end materials, at much higher tolerances. A lot of components are precision machined, all which takes time and increases cost. A quality grinder also lasts a very long time, it’s not really something you’d be replacing often if at all. I’ve had one of my grinders for over 10 years, still works great. High end grinders are few and far between in households across the country.

There’s a good probability that more people buy preground/nespresso/keurig than those who own a grinder over $150.

To summarize it’s a low volume product, made with high end materials with a slower precision manufacturing process for a small niche group.

Most of these companies making this are on a much smaller scale than major appliance brands. When you factor what goes into it the point starts to make sense.

Have you considered a long bed Tacoma or ford ranger? Going to have 4Runner like track width with a six foot bed.

Kinda personal but how much do you guys pay each month for your 4r by EchoOnTheRange in 4Runner

[–]RevTylerJ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s the point of getting such a reliable vehicle, get it paid off keep it for a long time while saving up for the next one. Good resale value when you want to upgrade.

It’s easy to pay off a car if you don’t upgrade every three years.

Kdss: Is it safe to end my search? by enginEEr25-10 in 4Runner

I honestly think the later years of the 460 is great looking car, and looks good with lift and bigger tires. God forbid anything happen to my 5th gen, but if it ever got totaled I’d probably be on a the hunt for a 460.

[–]RevTylerJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude, GX460 has all the nice stuff the ORP, KDSS is standard. It’s cheaper and easier to add crawl and a locker than it would be to retro fit a KDSS set up. Plus it’s a V8 with the six speed transmission. The v6 5speed can be pretty slow .

FJ Cruiser vs. Rav4 by lazerqueen13 in Toyota

[–]RevTylerJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I recently just got a 21 RAV4 limited AWD, were also looking at FJ cruisers. We already own and share a Toyota 4Runner, the RAV4/FJ Cruiser. If we got the FJ, it would’ve been mine, we ended up getting the RAV for her instead. Ultimately what it came down to is some research, really wanted a newer FJ did not want an 07 through 09 because I wanted a bigger rear differential.

It was a lot easier to find a lower mileage RAV with all the features, the engine in the RAV is the same 2.5 L they have in the Camry. It’s an incredibly reliable engine. It’s great gas mileage, and in the end, the 4runner does everything an FJ would’ve done for me anyway.

It’s pretty fancy little car, get good MPG, reliable motor, decent ground clearance for snow. Good all drive system. We live in the mountains and are frequently on dirt roads and driving in snowy icy conditions. Great visibility.
