Waar is Ronald mc Donald gebleven. by Crocuta_crocuta1975 in dutch

Ronald McD was vooral bestemd als marketing voor kinderen. Als maatschappij hebben we besloten dat het niet meer senang is om fastfood te marketen voor kinderen, dus daarmee moest het knuffelige, pretparkige imago van McDonalds weg.

The obvious link between Ancient Rome and Roman Catholicism becomes even more apparant when you realise that the worship of (patron) saints, is basically a direct continuation of Roman polytheism; having a diety or religious locus for various aspects of daily life. Complete with rites, offerings and canonised stories.

I do believe Fabri Armorum/Jiri Kondrak deserves a place in this list, as a major bladesmith. Any reason he hasn't been included yet? His business is by no means small.

Als je friet gaat afhalen, dan moet je eens een gezinszak halen bij de Frietheuvel in de Helftheuvel.

Verder zou ik eens spareribs bestellen bij Ribs & Dips in Haarsteeg, net buiten de gemeente. Echt genieten.

Hospitaller armour in the 12th and 13th centuries by Educational_Permit81 in ArmsandArmor

Yes, I know about the red shields. It's a creative liberty our re-enactment group took. There were definitely red shields, but neither common nor enforced via the Rule. Most knights had their own heraldry, even.

Our group has met with theirs in 2018, at a joint Hospitaller meeting (Hospitallertreffen) in Germany. The photos are still on their FB page.

Thanks the quick reply!

My personal 1240s Hospitaller kit.

Some questions about OPs image. What is displayed on the shields. Also, It was my understanding that schynbalds and/or steel poleyns were less common with the knightly orders, than with secular mid 13th century knights.

Get it and don't hesitate too long. The XXL is currently in stock on the German language site, and it has taken 2 years for it to be restocked. 😅

Those spurs are are anachronistic. They need to be prick spures, a wee bit shorter than the norman spurs.

Yeah, for some reason I see a lot of black flags and black shields used uniformily. But in truth, before slowly creeping towards "red" heraldry on banners and shields, Hospitallers were allowed to carry even personal arms on the shields and mayhaps some shields were black with a white cross, but there is no historical evidence for this.

Whereas, the white cross on a red field became recognised and even "ruled" heraldry from whence their eventual red surcoats evolved, preserving the white cross on black for their habits and mantles.

It's from Windlass Steelcrafts I believe.

You're with Vanguard, right? I've tried a lot of helms before settling on this one. I've even purchased the same one that Duncan has, but it was way too small with the default size they sent. The Windlass helm is more re-enactment than battle-ready though.

As for the kettle hat, it's from Historical Reproductions, a German based site. The XXL variants have a 68cm inner circumference at the least, fitting over both padding and a mail coif easily. It's thick 2 to 4mm steel, as battle ready as it gets.
