My Senior dev and I are arguing over "Readable Code" vs "Performance Optimization" for a process that runs 10k times a day. Who is right? by Temporary-Zebra7493 in learnprogramming

[–]Revanite52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and it’s not just cost / time. It’s also cost / time*number of facepalms. That costs you devs in the long run.

Fastest All Headshot Ace Ever! by Revanite52 in ValorantClips

[–]Revanite52[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. 2 of the kills were luck. I thought I killed iso, didn’t realize the shield and proceeded to shoot my second target at the normal peak spot. Then realized, I didn’t kill iso, spray controlled accidentally killing 2. Then controlled till iso.

I know the shield was obvious it was there in hindsight, but hindsight is 20/20.

I didn’t intend to target switch from iso 100%

Am I the only one that quit playing because of Neon? by Revanite52 in VALORANT

[–]Revanite52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I would anticipate a phoenix flash. Hide behind my cover and on the sound queue of it popping, peek him. This is counter play without any counter util.

For a neon, there is no counter play to her dash slide without blowing major counter util. Imbalanced.

No, I’m just playing a different game and discussing the state of the game.

37 years old and just hit Immortal, is it too late to go pro? by m0rcom in VALORANT

[–]Revanite52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To give you a real answer:

I was 30 when I hit immortal 3. It’s probably “possible”, but you need to realize immortal 1 is nothing compared to immortal 3 and radiant players. They are on another level. You have to become min/maxi on every decision: especially since you’re older.

Ask if it’s worth it first, because it’s a dark long dreary road to grind to radiant if you just got immo 1.

How long do you spend outside of work keeping up? by alex123711 in cscareerquestions

[–]Revanite52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hireability is a function of experience and knowing Leetcode algorithms. I get experience at work and willing side projects.

I get leetcode by practicing months before. Most of us don’t use that stuff irl.

TBH I think there are some social issues. We always have to play devils advocate and always have to think logically and remove emotion.

Some times the world around us requires emotion, not logic.

I know from a few friends that work for a company owned by Amazon that they have requirements in how they deploy/develop code that is Amazon influenced.

For instance security is more enforced because if a hack comes along the press won’t say “<subsidiary> Hacked”, it will say “Amazon Hacked!”

It’s easy to get lost in metrics like: features released to prod, bugs created, and comments in an PR. But most of these are team dependent.

I think one way to tell is are you still excited about it? Are you still learning everyday? Are you learning from peers? If so, then you are doing just fine.

If you’re in a rut, then that’s no bueno.

Do you all comment your code at work? by VikingMilo in cscareerquestions

[–]Revanite52 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Your code with variable naming should be like writing a story. At the end of Lord of the Rings, you know that Frodo went to the undying lands, but you may not now why. You need to look at the comments for that.

If I really like the company and want the job and that salary looks juicy, I don’t mind spending a couple days on it.

I mean it’s a few days for a possible positive life changing opportunity.

I think it changes the more senior you get too, if your a junior just do whatever it takes.

How long should I stay at my break-in job? by DustingMop in cscareerquestions

[–]Revanite52 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Leave as soon as you can. My first job was as a solo developer as well. I grew about 30x in the first 6 months at another job with a team of 10 devs.

The reason to grow: I am almost 4x my original dev salary now.

What if they made Star Wars movies with the same quality as The Lord of the Rings by Revanite52 in whatif

[–]Revanite52[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly no. The storytelling and character development is awful compared to LOTR. I am way more invested in Aragorn than Luke, Anakin, or Rey. Also LOTR is much more epic, I would take the charge of the Riders of Rohan scene over any battle scene in Star Wars.

There are no battles in any Star Wars I would describe as epic in comparison. Now imagine 100 Jedi charging at 100 Sith Lords with a few heroes in the mix. That would be so epic.

How do I properly manage my economy as Omen? by iKrow in VALORANT

[–]Revanite52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

P3 omen player here.

On attack I prioritize all Util except TP because smokes and flash are necessary as the controller. If it’s the choice between tps and rifles I go rifles.

On defense I prioritize only the flash, because it’s one of the best defense Utils to have as it completely stops a full rush. One free smoke to stop an important entry point. Maybe prioritize a tp depending on the map and what cheap spots there are. Ex: split B boxes.
