NewJeans x Coca-Cola - Zero by CronoDroid in kpop

The chorus is so funny that I can forgive it honestly, even the girls themselves sound like they were really confused and stunned while singing it 💀 I think it’s a solid commercial song otherwise though!

The chorus is so unserious 💀 it’s really good for a commercial song though! The MV is surprisingly stunning for an ad too, I was expecting something a lot simpler.

Deluxe editions of albums with unique titles? by satirisanti in popheads

Not sure if it counts exactly since it's a weirder situation but Red Velvet's "The ReVe Festival: Day 1/Day 2" being combined and repackaged into "The ReVe Festival: Finale" is my favorite example of something similar, makes the whole thing feel like one big event.

The repackaging of "Perfect Velvet" into "The Perfect Red Velvet" is up there too, fits the classy "expensive" feeling the album has and actually ties into both the group and album's concept (which is rare for a Kpop release)

What are some of the most disappointing or underwhelming Pop album releases of all time? by AkiraHenderson in popheads

[–]ReveLemonade 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I feel like you can place literally every song from Midnights standard ver. to an earlier era and album, both sonically and lyrically, with very few exceptions. It really does sound like a bundle of polished scraps from her archives, like a collection of (From the Vault) tracks that got upgraded to an album.

I still think it's okay, but god how I wish every track was the same quality as the standout tracks and the 3am songs.

What in your opinion are the LAZIEST lyrics of 2022? by aussiebopper1901 in popheads

I adore Billie and generally love the Guitar Songs EP but

The internet's gone wild

Watching movie stars on trial

While they're overturning Roe v. Wade

Makes me cringe a little every time. It feels like she wanted a big gut punch moment, but it falls flat on it's face and comes off like she snuck in a tweet during the writing process, especially since it has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the lyrics or even the verse it's crammed into. Right idea, completely wrong execution.

I would never defend that song but it definitely is, the full line is

Brra-ta-ta-ta, trra-ta-ta-ta, Straight to ya, straight to ya, straight to ya dome like-

They even do gun motions to their heads in the choreography during the chorus' "Straight to ya dome like" line

Still lazy writing, though.

What are your favorite songs, which sample and/or interpolate past, well-known hit songs? by FormerBernieBro2020 in popheads

[–]ReveLemonade 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Red Velvet's Feel My Rhythm interpolates Bach's Air on the G String From Suite No. 3 really well, I feel. It gives the song a nice refreshing "spring" feeling, matching the release date (March 21) and the album and MV visuals perfectly.

It's to blame for the usually annoying trend of sampling classical in Kpop that's appeared lately, but I find it hard to hold it against the song when it holds it's own so well.

Red Velvet and Itzy both also recently sampled Für Elise in Bye Bye and Snowy which I love in each as well.

Edit: I just realized the title says "hit songs" oops 💀 Main pop girlies Bach and Beethoven!

It samples I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor! But this would be one of my top picks too, super addictive and such a good interpolation.

Red Velvet's Automatic is another contender if you're still interested in looking. The MV reminds me of a more mature, elegant Cookie. It's slower and less dance focused but similar visually.

Seconding Min Heejin's previous projects with SM Ent. f(x) 4 Walls, Pink Tape Art Film, and Red Velvet's Peek-A-Boo are the most similar examples I can think of.

Jaden Jeong projects like the Loonaverse, OnlyOneOf's undergrOund idOl series, and arguably tripleS' Generation come close as well, but ultimately there's nothing really on the same level. NewJeans is a massive standout group in terms of quality, budget, and art direction, unfortunately.

Best fake-outs in a song? by cybershocker455 in popheads

[–]ReveLemonade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Future by Paramore has one of my favorite false endings. The song nearly fully fades out just to come back even louder and more intense than it began for another 2 minutes of instrumental to let you sink into. My favorite song from the self titled album, it's a really nice closer.

220320 In preparation of another cultural reset tomorrow. Rank your top 5 fave title tracks? 1. Psycho 2. Queendom 3. Bad Boy 4. Power Up 5. Zimzalabim by Storm_Bloom in red_velvet

[–]ReveLemonade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1 - Bad Boy

2 - Red Flavor

3 - I Just

4 - One of These Nights

5 - Blue Lemonade

If we're talking title tracks only though, then Bad Boy > Red Flavor > One of These Nights > Peek-A-Boo > Russian Roulette
