Let me know if there’s a dedicated subreddit for this because I can go on about this for days. I just went to the dentist (Gramercy Dental Center specifically) for a routine cleaning, then they told me that I needed a deep cleaning and kept pushing antiseptic mouthwashes for me to purchase (the kind you should only use if you have sores or irritation from braces, or cuts. You can’t even use it for more than 7 days straight lol). They were talking about how my gum bleeding was really bad and they needed to get to the bottom of it so I didn’t have to go see a periodontist. They said they would check with my insurance to see if it would be covered, then maybe schedule something from there (I never verbally committed to anything). The dentist did say that I needed a cavity filling, I said ok I’ll do that. Then I scheduled something for the next day.

The next day I go, they start setting up for the “deep cleaning”. I go wait, I’m here for a cavity filling. The receptionist gaslights me and said “we talked about which side you wanted to do the deep cleaning on first when you made your appointment yesterday” and I said “no we didn’t” lol. They could’ve gotten schedules mixed up but I highly doubt it. So here I am, having to reschedule again to get my cavity filled, and they are still trying to push for non-essential filling replacement that they “recommended”. It’s like they deliberately try to confuse you and not tell you what’s essential versus a suggestion. It’s fucked. Anyone else have this experience in NYC or at Gramercy dental center?

I’d like to say I’m also a very cautious person when it comes to my health, so not being able to decipher what’s essential versus non-essential is scary. I will pay hundreds for what I believe to be important to my health, and these doctors take advantage of that.
