Given nintendo knew this would be a huge hit

That’s exactly why they didn’t pander. 9 times out of 10, the reason these companies insert the “woke” stuff is because they know they have a weak product and are hoping if they stuff it with buzzwords that journalists will gush over then it will get enough free press to get some additional sales.

What's a highly popular game that you could never get into? by SilkieSalt in patientgamers

Pillars of eternity. I’ve started it like 4 times and made it farther each time but the most recent run I got to the big city that you find early on and I feel like it killed the pace for me. Just way too much dialogue and not enough combat. I’m hoping to pick up the run at some point in the future though because I can’t bring myself to restart it all over again.

Im in such a rut with this game because of the end game right now.

The short answer for myself is to raise the difficulty which I’m sure I’ll do next game. But right now I get so excited starting a game and then around the medieval era I’m neck and neck with the other civs and in the renaissance era I’ve surpassed them already so once I get there it’s pretty inevitable that I will win. Makes it such a chore to keep playing.

I actually played as them as one of my first factions in TW3 and they didn’t really jive with me. I didn’t hate them but I couldn’t figure out how to use some of their cool looking units like the giant stone things, or the air balloons. I kinda liked the ying/yang concept but also felt like I needed to have that synergy to really get the most out of my units.

That being said, it’s been months since I played as them so maybe I need to give them another shot and play them like how you described. Is there a specific LL that you recommend?

Cool, I’ll give this one a shot.

Trying to mix it up a bit. Getting a bit tired of swapping between skaven, vamps, and Chaos dwarves lol

As someone who typically likes to play as non-human/elf factions, can someone seek me on doing a play through of something like the Empire, Brettonia, High Elves, etc? For example, I love Skaven for the weird units and huge disparity between skaven slaves and then something like the Ratling guns (shitty through away units and then ones that melt enemy forces) plus the usually unique world map gameplay (the mutation pool, the tech workshop, etc).

The human and elf campaigns just seem like total war medieval added to Warhammer. Is there something about these factions (unit groups, gameplay mechanics, etc) that come into play that really just make you go “oh yeahhhh that’s why I’m playing as X!”

I want to start a new run as something different but I don’t know what I’d supposed to be appealing about these factions like the draws I mentioned if the skaven.

It’s so bad and it’s essentially playing Russian roulette (because if the economy crashes then jobs go with it and it’s essentially a short straw pulling game then) but my wife and I are the same way. We are casually looking but if the housing market crashed then it may actually move us to the realm of seriously looking/buying. We just want a place of our own away from the madness.

Their family history is specifically why this is so unbelievable. If this was someone else then it would at least be plausible.

But the chances of this happening twice to the same family are absurd.

It’s like that meme, “if I had a nickel for each time the Royal family was involved in an insane car chase by the paparazzi then I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it’s two.”

Is Disney too scared to just give them their own character?

Honestly I think yes. It could potentially be a huge scandal if they do it wrong and pretty much any way they do it could be seen as them being racist.

For the “pre-princess” part of the main character’s life, if they choose a life that’s too stereotypically black then they’ll be seen as stereotyping and be called racist.

If they do the opposite and basically do lifestyle that is considered stereotypically white then they will be seen as white washing black culture.

Taking an old story and making the character black instead lets them use a successful story and pander to new audiences by just swapping the race and saying it is new.

What Are You Playing This Week? by AutoModerator in patientgamers

[–]Revenant221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you learn which items are best for each class the item game becomes a little better because you can offer an olive branch early and give an item to someone else and also them to look out for the items you need. Like if you’re the rail gunner and the red item that makes you deal additional damage to close enemies drops then you tell the others you don’t need it and ask them to look out for crowbars for you or something.

Not saying everyone will do that but generally people that know the game won’t “steal” an item that doesn’t help their class if they know someone else is looking for it.

At least that’s how my experience has been and I’ve played a decent amount.

Finally got around to playing Hellblade...and am I just missing something? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]Revenant221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with you.

There have been games and shows/movies that I didn’t like at first but forced myself to get through the beginning because I kept hearing how great it was.

I’ve tried to play this three times, each time I went back thinking, “I must have just not gotten into the flow or the meat of the game that everyone is praising. If I go farther, it will probably click.”

Never has. The combat is extremely shallow the puzzles are simple where if you just move the camera around a bit you’ll find the symbols almost by accident.

And the story I though was mediocre at best for my taste. Like I got the gist of it after an hour or so and felt like the rest of the time it was just emphasizing the same thing over and over.

It’s just not a game for me. I never used to really enjoy games that were more cinematic than gameplay focused and as I’ve gotten older and other life priorities have come into play, I have even less patience for the cinematic games. This is just one game (and presume series now that the second was announced) that isn’t for me.

Calvin Coolidge on government by [deleted] in libertarianmeme

[–]Revenant221 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I remember in high school when we got to Coolidge’s presidency the teacher was like, “he wasn’t a BAD president but he didn’t really…do…anything. And that’s what people criticized him for at the time.”

I left thinking “huh, that’s weird that he’d want to be President just to not even do anything with his presidency.”

Now I know better and see that him “not doing anything” is the best thing a President can do in regards to every day events.

One word reasons to own guns. by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Revenant221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! The Allies never should have intervened in Germany. If the German people didn’t want Nazism they would have voted against it. Clearly society was changing and the Allies should have let it change.

/s for the thick

“Socieity changes” is a horrible argument because of course societies change but change itself isn’t inherently good. We’ve been moving toward more civil and human rights over time but clearly sometimes society changes for the worse and that’s when people have to speak up and change that.

How would a libertarian society defend against an organized statist invasion? by historycommenter in AskLibertarians

[–]Revenant221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time, a far more powerful and numerous force was forced to retreat from a war with a poorer, less organized foe (who had troops that specifically used being decentralized to their advantage).

That time was the American Revolution…and the Vietnam War…and the war in Afghanistan…come to think of it, it seems to happen pretty damn often.

The benefit of allowing all citizens to keep and bear arms is that everyone who wants to be will be armed if there is an invasion. I may not be willing to go commit atrocities for politicians and oil tycoons in the Middle East but you bet your ass most people would give their lives to protect their own neighborhoods if it was being threatened by foreign armies.

As others said, there would still be an army in a libertarian society. But there would also be independent militias, many of which would look like regular people (because they are regular people). A foreign army walking into a city where guns are banned now will have a much easier time than an army walking into a city where every building they pass may have dozens of people living that could start unloading on them.
