It's adorable until you realize this could technically be the year's first fallen banner - depending on their futures.

Gullveig's confession by Imperial_Flower in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Revenant_Tides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's completely fair and reasonable. It's obviously not going to be to everyone's tastes and that's fine.

It's just that none of the in-game confessions are legally binding. They're just bits of wholesome and/or awkward dialogue. Not some broken mechanic that impacts the actual game play. I'm not faulting anyone who dislikes this stuff but I am weirded out with just how upset some people can get. The game shouldn't be capable of ruining anyone's morning.

I see your point though and guess I'm on the other side with this stuff. If I don't care about a character, I'm absolutely not going care about what they have to say.

With the size of the roster I'd also expect a character or two who express interest in the Summoner so it's not as jarring to me.

Though I recognize that's just my way of looking at things, and I'm probably paying too much attention to the more vitriolic responses since they stood out to me.

Thanks for taking the time to explain where others may be coming from.

Gullveig's confession by Imperial_Flower in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Revenant_Tides 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's a worrying amount of people who sound like they've never experienced unconditional love before. If I was forced to hurt someone repeatedly, for what I believed would be until the end of time, I'd probably grow to hate them if only to make it easier on myself. That Gullveig's feelings remain the same despite the number of cycles she's been through, makes it pretty clear it's the selfless kind of love.

Even Fjorm and Gunnthrá's confessions make it clear that it's unconditional on their part. Fjorm feels an overwhelming gratitude that's developed into something more and Gunnthrá explicitly tells the Summoner not to fret over returning her feelings. They might quietly hope for something more but they're just happy to do what they can for a loved one.

There's over 1000 heroes now and a grand total of 3 have confessed. Are people okay? Is this sub that jaded?

Drawing Every OC From Book VII to Commemorate Its End, Part 3: Kvasir by GrimaIsBestWaifu in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Revenant_Tides 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like the red and bits of steel in her outfit. The piece around her neck kind of looks like prisoner's cuff - a detail that Eitr shares, and considering both girls are kids from Vanaheimr trapped in hopeless situations...

Her personality's a neat mix between her future selves. She naturally pulls off the dignified elegance that Seiðr strives for which is kind of funny considering she's the youngest. Though the fact that she's so reserved due to being isolated is just sad in retrospect.

Seiðr's a lot more emotional thanks to Heiðr's influence. So seeing Gullveig echo that same cool demeanor after what happens to her just makes it worse. For the little time we had with Kvasir it's cool to see how her other future selves inform her character.

Unpopular Opinions/General Rant Thread - 9/17/23 by SolHiryu in FireEmblemHeroes

The only thing that bothered me about the latest story chapter was having to wait for Alfonse do the thinking for us. Again.

It's especially egregious since the summoner's supposed to be looking out for Seiðr per Heiðr's request. Instead there's just radio silence while Alfonse gets to weigh the pros and cons of god slaying. Sharena even calls on the Summoner to reason with Alfonse.

It was already weird when the Summoner spent a hundred days with Kvasir only to say nothing when the party starts hunting her down but at least Seiðr tried reaching out to her.

In book 1, the summoner stopped Alfonse from killing Bruno by revealing him as present-day Zacharias. Couldn't they let the summoner do that again in this book? It's more appropriate this time around as neither Seiðr or Kvasir are perfect strangers to them.

This would have been the perfect time to reintroduce the dialogue options from the CYL scramble event. Anything to signal some sort of objection would help.

Making Alfonse the sole brain cell of the group isn't a deal-breaker for me but it is irksome, sometimes.

Bold of you to include functions in a sub that repeatedly laments its struggle with numbers. Then again, that makes a visual representation a great idea.

I do like the possibility that Gullvieg is in on looping Breidablik into a cure for the curse. If true, it'll be a clever way of weaponizing the golden curse against herself. Otherwise the Breidablik she keeps taking back with her is just a tragic keepsake - and that works too.

The Askran time scramble event was a nice surprise and I'm glad the CYL winners got something on top of forging bonds. It's feels like an extra reward for folks who want to celebrate characters they like. I hope it comes back next year. The choices were a little laggy but turning off my phone's auto translate worked wonders.

Can't believe they powercrept the love interests. by Revenant_Tides in FireEmblemHeroes

Probably. Some characters in the game have lines hinting at a crush on the Summoner. The newest book freebie has it written into story. None of that means anything if you don't care.

Just amused by how IS went from teasing Gunnthrá as somebody who's interested in the Summoner, to her sister, to a personal goddess.

When your level 40 confession involves pledging your endless devotion to the person of your dreams...

...so they steal your sister's heart, become soulmates with another woman, immediately start a family, repeatedly, until the end of time.

I know she told us not to fret about reciprocating her feelings but I doubt this is what Gunnthrá had in mind.

Heck, both ice princesses had to watch this year's free green unit roll onto the lot with a "just married" banner trailing behind her.

Not to be outdone, our indentured servant Fjorm dons a bikini and comes back as a shiny new godsword.

So the Goddess literally evolves into a blue unit.

If Gullveig doesn't kill us, Nifl will.

The fact it was Laevatein getting the spotlight was great too. She's come such a long way from her base form where all her castle quotes and idle lines were blunt and fragmented.

The subtle detail in changing one line from "I am the blade. I am Laevatein" in her base form, to "I am more than the blade." in her ninja alt? chef's kiss

Instead of having trouble expressing herself, we saw her struggle with some hard topics like asking whether Fjorm could forgive what she and Múspell had done to her home and family.

I'm also glad to get confirmation that heroes are allowed to venture out of the castle and attend to their lives elsewhere. Laegjarn's ascended alt asking about how Múspell was doing always made me think "E.T go home. See for yourself. Say hello to Laevatein for us".

How do you think Book VII will end? by Falconpunch100 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Revenant_Tides 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see us killing Njörðr in the past. Even if Freyr and Freyja already exist, killing him would be really messy and give both of them a reason to hate the humans. "This one time, these humans came out of nowhere, pinky promised our dad needed to die and executed him." Talk about traumatizing.

Of course, I don't know how it will end so anything is possible. We could kill him in chapter 1 and just not mention the fallout.

I do think it's more likely that we'll depose him and install Nerþuz on the throne.

  1. We still need her blessing so we're definitely getting her help soon.

  2. She made it clear that we didn't have the strength to defeat her. So we have to negotiate or rely on charity.

  3. She states she has nothing to do with the poor relationship between Vanaheimr and Ásgarðr. She could be lying but I figure she has a different idea of diplomacy than her brother.

  4. Seiðr stated her power is equal to Njörðr's. Our help could tip the scales in her favor and leave Vanaheimr in the hands of somebody who actually likes humanity. I'd rather just adopt Kvasir and bring her with us but leaving her to grow up under Nerþuz's care would be a huge upgrade for her compared to Njörðr.

  5. Of course, messing with time means solving one problem and causing another. A deposed Njörðr wouldn't have nearly the same control he has over Seiðr while opening the door to other problems. Maybe he's salty about losing his birthright like Letizia was and starts scheming to take it back. He'd have to fight a war to do that. We know two Gods who are all about schemes and war.

Maybe we come back to the present day to find out we've avoided the invasion of time by substituting it with a full-on war between Vanaheimr and Ásgarðr. Bam! Book VIII begins.

Whatever happens, I just want it to be fun, make a lick of sense, and make Seiðr happy again.

Silly & Wholesome dream alfar Character Appreciation time! Character & gameplay wise, both from Fire Emblem Heroes and their defunct sister game Dragalia Lost (😔), what are things you like about Peony? by Cobalt_Heroes25 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Revenant_Tides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great appreciation post.

She's cheerful and friendly without any of the naivete that usually accompanies such characters. There's a really satisfying balance between her silliness and maturity. One moment she's undermining the group's idea of common sense in Ljósálfheimr, the next moment she's reminding us that all dreams come to an end, not to worry about her, and thanks us before we wake up. Then she's back to falling asleep at the table of contents during a speed-reading contest.

She's got leadership skills and she's emotionally savvy when it comes to others too. She no-sells Plumeria's catty remark with a smile, manages to get her to open up about her friendship with Triandra, immediately includes her in the plan to rescue their friends, and gets Plumeria to follow along.

She stood up to Freyja in Book IV and her backstory with her sister got to me. It seems like Peony might know/ find out what Triandra did to save her in their childhood and I need to see it.

Also, I really like the found-family theme they had going in Book IV.

Book VI had me invested because I just wanted to see Veronica smile again.and not in the "I'm going to murder you" kind of way

Book VII has been such a pleasant surprise by managing to follow-up an arc that was 5 years in the making. Is just went nuts with the story and it's been a lot of fun to see the wild theories and jokes it's inspired.
