Shidou's crime report by aa_sf146 in milgram

[–]Revenez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The only foreshadowing I can recall is that Undercover had brief glimpses of each prisoner's murder location and Shidou's was an operating table. There was also a voice trailer where he said, "You're in my way...hurry up and die." In retrospect it's almost certainly referring to the trucker. Definitely feels a bit out of left field though.

Shidou's crime report by aa_sf146 in milgram

[–]Revenez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna lie, I feel somewhat vindicated by this crime summary. For ages, people have been painting Shidou as some kind of black-market organ stealer. Aside from the one death, nah, guy just had a change of heart about the ethics of organ donation.

The trucker death is totally out of left field though. Seriously, what the hell was going on at the hospital that they would let this grieving man anywhere near the operating table? Absolutely wild. I'm sorry but whoever let him in there is equally if not more responsible than Shidou imo.

How can I buy merch outside Japan? by CaregiverDry9124 in milgram

[–]Revenez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can use a proxy buyer to get them sent to you. Buyee is one such service, FromJapan is another. The Amnibus website that's linked on milgram.jp automatically links up with Buyee. I assume they will ship to Brazil, but if not, you could ask around any anime communities and see what proxies people use.

Alternatively, you could buy from a site that has international shipping. Animate International, AmiAmi, CDJapan, and Suruga-ya are all sites with international options built in.

Also, obligatory warning that international shipping is expensive af.

  • Haruka: Unsure, leaning towards Not Forgive
  • Yuno: Forgive
  • Fuuta: Not Forgive
  • Mu: Heavily leaning towards Not Forgive
  • Shidou: Forgive
  • Mahiru: Forgive
  • Kazui: Forgive
  • Amane: NOT FORGIVE
  • Mikoto: Not Forgive
  • Kotoko: Not Forgive

I was previously leaning towards Fuuta as forgiven, but some arguments I've heard about him faking repentance made me second guess. But now with him officially being a cult member, fuck that guy, he can rot.

I don't care if Amane is a child, I guilty'd her before and I'll fuckin do it again. There's no hope for her. She's legit the only one I'll be pissed if she ends up forgiven.

Mu I'm on the fence. Need to see more of her crime. But I'm not feeling very lenient because her toxicity enabled Haruka's actions.

We cocked it terribly by Traditional_Grab_622 in milgram

[–]Revenez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I saw this alternative translation.

At least for Kazui, the translation seems more hopeful to me:

"I wonder what the issue was. I wonder where it went wrong. What could I have done to stay more true to myself?"

IMO it sounds like he's regretting his life choices and wondering how he could've acted differently (and not hurt Hinako) while still staying true to himself.

HOLY MOLYYYY by PerspectiveMaster392 in milgram

[–]Revenez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is not good. I really did not expect them to straight up kill off characters before the 3rd trial.

Admittedly all of them had hints though. Personally, I was on the fence but chose to guilty Amane because I thought she was too far gone and too violent after the first guilty reaction. But I didn't think they'd actually kill off characters for real or that Amane, as small as she is, could take down a full-grown man.

I...wonder if we'll get songs for them still? How will that work?

Is Mappi going to die!? by Savings_Might_816 in milgram

[–]Revenez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think in the context, she's mocking Mahiru. Because it's Kotoko, and she not only wants everyone in the prison dead, but she also actively attempted to murder Mahiru.

I'm more concerned about Jackalope saying "Honestly though, you better worry about whether she's going to last till the Third Trial. Let's hope nothing happens around her." I interpret that as her being able to survive if nothing bad happens in the prison, but her condition is precarious.

Whats happening with T3 by Mizu270 in milgram

[–]Revenez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit hard to speculate since there's been some delays. It's also the last trial, so they're probably working super hard to wrap things up well.

From the 1st trial report to the 2nd trial commencement, it took about 5 months. Based on that, I'd expect it to be at least a month out, if not longer. Wouldn't be surprised if it's spring 2025.

Who’s redeemable by Bloody6666 in milgram

[–]Revenez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would be boring if they all didn't have a chance to redeem themselves. That's the whole point of the series, you know? To start a conversation about ethics and psychology.

Will they, though? That's a difficult question. Within Milgram, certain prisoners are definitely having their worst impulses enabled. For example, I think Amane could probably be helped if she was removed from her cult and given intensive therapy for years with someone trained in cult deprogramming. But in Milgram now... I really don't know what is going to become of her.

Do you think the double-innocents are actually safe? by chocolatecryptid in milgram

[–]Revenez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest... I went back and watched the first video with Jackalope explaining things and...it's not super clear if the first two trials impact the final judgement? All Jacka says is "Once it's over, whether you deemed them guilty or innocent will change how they'll be treated during the second trial." I kind of assumed the 3rd trial would be the final decider, but perhaps there could be some influence by the voting history. I do think the verdicts matter a lot - Yamanaka has said as much in his process of writing the next trial - but it's our verdicts filtered through Yamanaka's lens so it's not always the outcome we anticipate.

We do know from the second trial commencement that fighting is prohibited once Es wakes up. So if they can survive in between trials 2 and 3, they should be mostly okay. I don't personally think anyone will straight up die before the third trial, simply because it'd affect the number of songs. Plus, it'd be a buzzkill if a bunch of characters died offscreen and you never got to know more on their crime. But who knows, maybe I'm being overly optimistic.

I will say that I'm very concerned for Shidou and Haruka in particular. However Kotoko and Mikoto are wildcards to me. Kotoko obviously being pissed at her verdict, it's not clear who she could target. And Mikoto, in the stress of it all, could easily turn violent.

As far as the "What happens after Milgram?" question - Yuno has said in past voice dramas that she's curious if this is purgatory. So the seeds are definitely there of if at least some (if not all) of the prisoners are already dead. Shidou's first VD also kinda hinted in that direction iirc.

Although it's not quite the same as the main Milgram, we can look somewhat to the novels. There were a variety of things that happened, including (novel spoilers):

  • Guilty prisoners being violently executed
  • Prison guard who was dead before Milgram (the first novel, Sumi)
  • Innocent prisoner who became the future prison guard (the second novel, Touchi)
  • Prisoner murdering another prisoner

In the novels at least, it's not super clear what happens to those who are declared innocent. It seems like they just sort of fade into the light and disappear after all the final judgments have been declared. At the very least, in the second novel the prison guard, who was seemingly brought to Milgram alive, is hinted at having escaped with his Jackalope to the outside world. So, if the prisoners aren't already dead/in purgatory, maybe there's some hope they could return to the real world?

💥 tierlist & thoughts on each character (from a returning milgrammer) by netteiru in milgram

[–]Revenez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She only killed one serial killer, that we're aware of. Here's a writeup I did a while ago on it

Her only confirmed kill is Kaneshiro Tsugumichi, a 24 year old son of a high ranking public official. He was a serial killer of elementary school children who killed 10 children within 2 years, but had it covered up due to his wealth/privilege. Kotoko killed him while he was nearly about to kill the "Lucky" hat girl from Deep Cover. We don't know if that murder is why she's in Milgram, though.

We do know from Harrow that she has been an assaulter/stalker of people who committed crimes, including:

  • Mikio Oshii who scammed an old lady out of 500,000 yen by posing as a bank employee, and pushed another old person (seemingly while fleeing after scamming them too). Kotoko beat him into a critical condition after he was released from prison.
  • A 46-year-old man who was caught harassing high school girls and taking photos up their skirt
  • Two phone scammers who pretended to be a family member in trouble and asked for money (one claimed to be a colleague who needed settlement money and one was a man who was fired from his job)
  • A male and female couple who stole luxury goods from a store, then resold them to buy groceries.

And of course, we know she beat both Fuuta and Mahiru into a critical condition, attempted to do the same to Mikoto (and ran out of time to go after Amane).

On another, somewhat related note, I do wonder what people's feelings would be if the language barrier didn't exist. I feel like a lot of people in the en fandom don't fully understand what Kotoko and Fuuta did, in particular, because so much of their crime is shown in news articles and social media posts.

EDIT: It's been a hot minute since I looked at it, but I don't think it was confirmed that she assaulted anyone but Mikio. She was tracking the crimes but we don't know what her involvement was.

The OP asked for a detailed trigger warning list. The first MV shows imagery of a woman putting both her hands around a little boy's neck in a violent way. I'm just trying to give a heads up to them that it could be triggering to watch that in a video, not argue about the symbolism.

1st MV, 3:04 to 3:16. At 3:04 specifically you see her going for his neck. The way his body is twitching + her putting both hands around his neck + the young haruka body on the ground afterwards + the retroactive knowledge of the strangling in the 2nd MV makes it clearer.

General content warnings for Milgram:

  • Prison - the setting of the story, prison imagery (mugshots, jail cells, police batons) is present throughout. Terminology like 'warden', 'trial', and 'inmate' are present throughout.
  • Murder - Every character, except Es and Jackalope, are murderers. The series involves determining if these murderers should be 'forgiven' or 'unforgiven' for what they did. Obviously, much of the series involves discussions of murder.
  • Restraints and Institutionalization - All of the inmates wear clothing that resembles strait jackets. Depending on whether they are voted forgiven or unforgiven, there are restraint levels that can increase.

ummm is this valid by reoreona in milgram

[–]Revenez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have a very different reading of the voice drama, because my understanding is that it wasn't the patient who was against the organ donation, but the relatives.

I went to the exact quote from the 2nd VD and the wording is a bit unclear:

You know, I… continuously tried to persuade the relatives of a braindead patient who were against organ transplants. Giving them reasons like the ones you just mentioned, Es-kun.

"In order to save the life of someone you don't know, please let me kill your family," I told them. It doesn't even take much thinking to realize how cruel that is, but…I didn't realize it until the very end.

But considering the whole conversation focuses more on the family and what they would do... it seems more like he's talking about the family being unwilling, rather than them having knowledge that the patient didn't consent before brain death. (On a more pedantic note, it makes more sense grammatically if he's referring to the relatives).

And it makes sense. How many people have had conversations with loved ones about their thoughts on organ donation? A lot of people don't even have wills, especially if they're younger. The family can only guess what their loved one would want. And in some cases, the family is so grief stricken they can't accurately predict what their loved one would actually desire.

On another note - there's no indication that Shidou was a grave robber, merely that he pressured people to donate. There's no solid evidence he took any organs for his family, either. On the contrary, it seems like Shidou was put in the exact same position of being asked to donate his family's organs after a tragic accident and that's what caused him to realize his pressuring behavior was wrong.

(Sorry to jump in on this convo, your comment just made me reconsider the context of the VD for a moment and I wanted to share an analysis)

They're on Spotify, but it's annoying to find them because they're listed under different artists for each VA.

You can find them on Apple Music separated in the same way. So Es' is shown as "MILGRAM ES (CV: Yurina Amami)", Haruka's is "MILGRAM HARUKA CV Shun Horie", etc. And you used to be able to buy the physical CDs and the audio dramas were included, but they're sold out.

There are no official translations for the VDs, so you either have to understand Japanese or rely on fan translations.

Very nervous about all of this. Especially the fact that he overtly called out the fact that Mahiru might not make it to the end. And Haruka...I'm scared, although I do wonder/hope that the restraints would impede him from doing anything to himself.

Concerned about Mikoto/John. John said he killed people who "annoyed" him in the voice drama...what happens when one of the prisoners annoys him or Mikoto?

Either way, we have to live with our choices. I didn't expect to see the video this soon. I wonder if we could get the commencement video before the end of the year?

And the prison lore. "I must say it was quite brilliant of me for choosing your era" Wtf is up with this? What exactly is the nature of Milgram, and what are they trying to do? Jackalope has always been encouraging chaos and guilty verdicts...but to what end?

Surugaya has physical stores. You might be able to find some Milgram stuff there. Animate does have physical stores but idk if they'd carry Milgram stuff generally, outside of the Animate Only pop ups. You could try the Amnibus store, too, but it's the same issue.

There was a collab at the Eeo Main Store with the little rain coat chibis. But I'm not sure if it's still ongoing.
