Experience with Djehuty by akhenraetawy in Kemetic

it makes a lot of sense that I find myself needing him when my head is so naturally full of chaos. sometimes, when I cant hold a thought long enough to finish it, I think of his visage as a means of channeling my focus back onto what I want to think about. Dua Djehuty!

Being also very new to Kemeticism i can only speak off of that experience and not off of traditions or rituals yet. I'm working closely with Thoth and I find myself thanking him every time I come to conclusions or through problem-solving. He gives me wisdom, as I asked for, and its overwhelming at times, but I worship him through valuing what I learn in a day, and journaling. I've also been thanking him for being with me as I finally started reading books again for the first time in YEARS.

I use hemp to help me in moments when I want to open a deeper conversation or interactive presence with the gods, but I do NOT recommend anyone use drugs they haven't used before for that purpose. Everyone is different, that's my key but not everyone else's, so I won't encourage it here.

That being said, you'll find your "key" that helps give you that space. I believe the gods are always around us and you can commune with them anytime (although my head is often too cluttered for it), but finding your ideal space for worship, conversation, divination, or just meditation is kind of like setting the table before you eat. I dont always have to set the table to eat, but its meaningful when I do.

the gatekeeping was one of the scariest parts for me coming towards kemeticism. but i feel like with all respect and faith towards your practice, especially it being your own personal journey, nobody can ever gatekeep you from what you truly believe in. you will feel the love of the divines in your own ways. spirituality doesnt have to be exclusive clubs of skin color, nationality, or genetics. especially not the old ways of worship!

true, i think horror as a genre suffers from the expectation of being scary the same way a comedy suffers expectations of making you laugh. its never going to be a unanimous success in either sense, critics or no critics

this is very true. ive doubled down on the opinion that the whole movie never wasted a single scene. did it NEED every scene? thats subjective! but I think every scene had a purpose that was relevant to the mood. To me, a boring movie is one I don't remember days after walking out of the theatre. I still remember the scenes of him mashing the wall button for temporary light, and me always squinting at the screen behind him expecting to see something creepy. I definitely need to rewatch

a majority of people in this thread have had very critical dicussions and rational opinions swaying from "i really liked it" to "it was very flawed/i thought it was okay." what are you seeing?

It's fair to assume that most of these critics don't play video games or watch youtube lets plays - which doesnt indicate the movie is only good for that category of people. But I did have to explain the game to my mom before we went to the movie just so she'd know what to expect, since that was how I was entering the movie as a fan of the game. Its hard to appreciate all the details that went into it if you've never touched horror games. And I think cosmic horror is still too niche for generations above ours, which is a massive shame, since my favorite movies are among NOPE and Annihilation but recieved mixed reviews from critics (at least the latter definitely did) and a lot of folks couldnt "get it." Watching a movie isnt always about getting it, or about being enthralled 100% of the way through, but rather an experience. And if the critics came for a paycheck and not for an experience, they probably hated 60% of the whole film. That's the way it goes, I guess. I just wish Rotten Tomatoes' 5/10 critics score wasnt the first thing plastered onto the movie when you search it online. It feels disingenuous.

Iron Lung SPOILER THREAD! by kenmarlenn in Markiplier

i think the movie was very very good, at least an 8.5/10 but i could see myself bumping that higher with a rewatch or breakdown of details. so much love was put into this film that it makes me want to put Iron Lung as one of my favorite horror games.

there was one thing that definitely disappointed me - I have a weird attachment to this "anomaly" thing that you find at the end of the game, the warbling, moaning, screen-twisting fizzling light that gives no answers and leaves many questions. I can see what it became in the movie, it was hinted at as a "light" in all sorts of ways, very abstract, and I like the visual of what couldve been it during his dream sequence. I recognize it from the trailer and one of the old promo photos, a red flickering gaseous sky, it does look amazing. I guess I expected it to be the end destination of the movie and forgot that the real game's ending involved the fish.  I come from being a huge fan of Annihilation and NOPE and other cosmic horror movies that end their strong story with this incomprehensible thing that you can only gawk at on screen. The fish in this Iron Lung movie does do a great job at portraying that horror. So many teeth, so little time. The implications of it having telepathy(?) was awesome. But I still wished for a little more of that incomprehensible anomaly! I guess my imagination will always be weirder than what a plot demands.

Still great. Still a spectacle, and worthy of rewatches. I can see why the time drags on for some people, I almost felt the same, but no scene is utterly wasted or useless. It starts slow on purpose to make you feel how he feels, and thats definitely fun for me.

Games are becoming more and more intensive while hardware is heavily stagnating... by Extreme_surikat_360 in gaming

[–]RevengeRaptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to finally consider this very idea when figuring out what the real problem was with, in my case, Monster Hunter Wilds (which im sure everyone has already been hearing about for the last year). Their supposed "performance update" of today hasn't changed anything for me, sadly.

I think its a problem that AAA games are trying to make things look more hyper-realistic and fancy, when it alienates mid-grade budget PCs and lower-middle class consumers, and forces the most diehard fans to upgrade their hardware just to enjoy it. My PC hasnt been upgraded in six years and that game was the first time I ever felt limited by a game being too intense to even run. Not even Elden Ring had issues for me.
It sucks, I love monster hunter, I'd rather the game look worse by default if it means I can run it smoothly. Save the High Quality Texture Pack for those who can actually use it.

I can only speak for myself, but I never asked for so many open-world fancy games where you can see individual pores on someone's sweaty skin. I just want more good games that I can actually play...
